Expansions: BGS Guide Best Current Thinking

can this header page be updated to reflect the true time 3-7 days of active phase and that it can be shortened by the expanding system gaining Inf (as evidenced on most recent posts)
do you have any exampel of a 3 tick(!) active expansion? i personally have only seen a variation of +/- 1 tick.

no i dont. Just the information on the front stub days "usually 5 days" if ,since ODY, it is always 7 days (actually expanding on the 7th tick) it should say. i was just trying to workout what happens from other comments that all seem to say different things, so took the Stub to be the 'current best thinking'. note: our current Expansion is 7 days active

oh, i see, yes. i think with @Jane Turner not being around lately and the pinned post of this subforum leading to this post having no working links since a couple of years, i think the best we can do is share what we do know in a running discussion.

days isn't the best metric compared to ticks, but if your expansion is active for 7 days, it should have expanded right now, as todays tick just happened, and that should have been the sixth active tick at least. check the station news.

it expanded last night 8 days (7 ticks active!!) Inf always below 75 after the trigger event.

No that's just when that app got updated, went triggered on 11-10, pending on 12-10 active on 16-10. that app data shows pending before the Friday tick . Clearly, nobody went into that system with EDMC running for a couple of days. Its also still showoing as Active on 24th, when it was over on 23rd tick. Tools only as good aas the data fed to it.

and interestingly, it triggered at 74.98%. I dont use this app, so interesting to see feedback with greater precision.

true that. pending on wednesday, 12th tick ~17:30 ingame (as it shows pending after that on thursday, 05:00 ingame). expanded sunday, 23rd tick ~17:50 ingame. that's a +1 day expansion, right in range for the above.
days aren't the best metric as those depend on your timezone.
4 ticks pending, 7 ticks active. interesting.
i don't remember seeing less than 5 ticks pending, but i generally don't look much to the pending/active split on expansion (we only calculate the expansion date +/- 1).

Pending days seems pretty rock solid. In the last 64 expansions we have only had 1 variance (1 day early) and that was with a big server update movinf the tick to the next "day" and us not paying much attention so were not 100% sure of the book keeping.
In those 64 expansions we have only ever seen +/-1 in Active days

pending is normal - 5 ticks from trigger point (4 ticks showing Pending)

not sure what you mean by trigger point (expansion cooldown ends - one tick without expansion cooldown - next tick expansion goes pending?)
but usually it should "announce" 5 ticks as pending - means: it should read at 5 ticks expansion pending, not 4, as it looks it did at your exampel.

never seen that, always hit 75 , tick shows nothing, then next 4 ticks pending, then next tick goes active, for all those ive seen (since ODY)!!

This could of been a laggy display of a tick since all of the websites that show the data go off the same system that displays the right panel info so it could be behind 12 hours like it can be sometimes so it may seem like a 7 day active tick. With that said I wasn't their myself monitoring the expansion so I can't deny or confirm your claim.

well, i was looking through Canonns pending and active expansion states since beginning of september via Khun (as that system gets the most updates): https://elitebgs.app/systems/59e7a5b1d22c775be0fe0a93
and yes. 4 ticks pending announced. never more, never less.(*)
looks to me as if the total time of expansion has not changed, but the pending period is reduced to 4 ticks announced, while active expansion is announced 6 times +/-1 tick.

(*) of course the number of announcements is 1 less than the "duration" from-to.

With only five data points so far this month for Chedita, it's a bit hard to say. That's probably what's causing the odd-looking state periods.

Looks like an expansion by the system controller from 13th-20th of September, which allowing for the lack of data doesn't seem that unusual.

Either the expansion failed (no targets in range) or it wasn't from Chedita, though, as there doesn't seem to be any sign of an expansion tax being paid. Looks like they have plenty of targets from Chedita, so maybe not expanding from there: looking at their other systems, expansion from Mictlan seems to have been more likely - not obvious to me where it went, presumably somewhere that doesn't get frequent updates to 3rd-party tools.
