So you can watch your automated turrets fire at ships. Wow! What an advantage...Well except for big ships with turrets obviously.

In Flight Simulator there is an external view, a Tower View, flyby etc. In the DCS flight SIM/combat sim, there are similar views with an option, after the end of the flight, to view the flight from various view points. As a "view last flight" feature. This is then erased after you view your flight, thus freeing up memory.
I just think that in Elite Dangerous, with such gorgeous ships and stations, perhaps there could be a similar set of features, so we can marvel at our fighting ability, approach and landing at stations and the beauty of our ship, from a third person view?
We can buy skins for our ships, but we can only see them in the stations outfitting bay! Surely better to see how they look in space?
The tech (and beautiful graphics) was not available with the original Elite, but now I think it would be a nice feature.
I dunno. If you by a paint job, you can see it. If you far away, you can't.
As the cockpit view requires a rendering of the external environment AND the 3D cockpit, it actually should require less ressources, than just your ship external model and the scene.Maybe there is another unspoken reason for not having external views.
Maybe the graphics engine isn't up to it? External views place a much heavier demand on graphics and there are already stutter issues as is.
So can you give us a good reason why YOU would use an external view??? It is not, that anyone asks to replace 1st person with an arcade 3rd person HUD view... on the opposite. People want a non combat external camera that can pan around the ship and maybe fly by views. NO HUD! NO Over-the-shoulder tracking view.Wow, such a contentious subject! I just have to weigh in and say that I hate the idea of an external view... anything other than complete first person immersion would spoil the game for me, especially if combat was easier in third person.
Maybe you should try and BY a clue. Also, water is wet. Some goes as far as saying fire is hot.
Now would you care explaining how does this relate to, well, anything?![]()
Maybe you should try and BY a clue.
*cough*cough* "buy" not "by".
If you are going to belittle someone, at least do it right.
Just saying!
It's BRaben, David Braben not BaRben! If you mean the mastermind behind Elite Dangerous...Wow. A ragequit because of a camera. I hope to be there to witness the first ragequit because Frontier haven't produced a commemorative bobblehead of Yuri Gagarin, or because some NPC had the same name as a character from a TV show, but with an incorrect spelling ("PATHATIC BARBEN!!! EVERY1 KNOW THAT MOLLARI HAS 2 LS! I AM OUTTA HERE, THIS GAME IS MADE BY PHILESTEINS!!1!").
Maybe you should try and BY a clue.

Because of the tactical advantage, of course! ..... gnihihihi
I dunno, 100,000 new game sales within the first month is not bad going. I can't see this game folding just yet, regardless of skins.Alright I got that thank you very much, I'll reword the question: why should we buy vanity items so only others can see them, and only when they're at point blank range? I think I know the answer already: if others can see them it's good enough for you. No problem with that. So thanks for buying skins with your money so I get to enjoy them, sir, you are very kind! If you really want to help FD, may I advise you to buy a lot more of them? Because unfortunately, too many people don't act so selflessly and the skins store might run short of consumers pretty fast.

And then, of course, once it comes out on Mac, more sales.
When the XBone version arrives (and it doubtless will), more sales.
When the Oculus Rift consumer version arrives, more sales.
They'll probably sell each expansion in a slightly discounted bundle with the original game upon release, so we'll probably sales bumps at those points as well.
Then, once all the direct sales have started to slow down a bit, there's always Steam, GOG, and a host of other distribution platforms.
They will probably sell credits on the store at some point, as Braben mentioned early on in the Kickstarter process.
Then there's the advertising stuff (not my bag at all, but I can't see them passing up the opportunity to make more money).
Then there's all the extra expansions we haven't thought of yet - The "Star Safari" pack, the "Formula 3300" pack, the "Star Gladiator" pack - the list is endless...
