External View [A definitive discussion]

One of the videos showing third person views is the old capital ship battle video.
There was a dev diary that explained how it was made and mentioned that it was a cinematic that, while using the in game engine, was edited through various means to be cinematic.
That is quite a lot more transparency than you will get in most cases. To suggest all videos that show scenes that aren't exactly accurate to in game experience, when it has been explicitly explained in the progress diary that it was edited footage, is not only unreasonable but also laughable.

Incidentally, I would love to have the ability to launch a stationary camera probe. Some nice vanity shots of my ship would be enjoyable. If it doesn't come out, I would be okay because I have friend willing to align up a nice photo opportunity.

I'm not thinking E : D combat really suits an outside the cockpit set up. There is too much information that you need in the cockpit. Your throttle setting, your power settings, and all sorts of other information that you wouldn't see outside the cockpit. Now I'm pretty sure there are no videos that show an outside the cockpit HUD, so you can't really say you were expecting that from the shown footage...

Interesting point, well-argued, but I don't think we're misrepresenting the game by showing these shots. You can see other ships when you're playing the game. You just have to see all the screenshots and videos people are taking in-game already.

I think this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewo-6WVZaIU is among the best examples of how much external views add to the experience and I think its easy to see how someone watching this video could be left with the impression these views would be available in game as it is presented very much as a piece of gameplay. I cannot overstate how much these views would add for the people who want them.

*edit* And if you think the videos and screenshots people are taking now are good then honestly you haven't seen anything compared to what you'll get with really good simple easy and unrestricted external views.. Seriously the fan made youtube coverage would go through the roof

While I understand the complaint from the OP, i really think its stretching for a complaint. There are movies out there that advertise them to be high action, but when you go, you realise EVERY CLIP they put in the trailer, is the ONLY action in the film.. then there are games that claim to be good *cough* EA *cough*.. and turn out to be garbage.. Or, like the stupid COD/BF series of games, say there is a complelling Singleplayer campaign, but that consists of "press A 30 times to break the glass... okay, now press space to climb this wall.. you dont want to climb the wall? TO BAD! MISSION FAILED.. Go try climbing the wall again...".. ED, sure, takes some videos using thier engine from outside the ship... big deal.. they are showing off the ENGINE.. not showcasing "look we have amazing external views".. I get WANTING to look at your pretty ship.. or in my case, my beat up hauler i never remember to repair its wear and tear on... but it doesnt mean they OWE it to me to be able to..

The beauty of this day and age, is that we have all the resources we need ot find out if those movies are all hype but suck, and those games actualy have any gameplay in them BEFORE we buy them.. I never buy a game that i dont see in-game footage of or a let's play of it.. i NEVER buy hardware I cant return a few days later if it doesnt live up to its hype.. and i never go to a movie, which i dont read at least 2 or 3 trusted movie-goer reviews (because critics tend to look at movies differently then I do..)..

Its the consumer that has to realise that Marketing is nothing more then TRYING to get you to buy thier product.. thier JOB is to make you feel incomplete unless you buy it and support thier company.. You are lied to in some form or another in almost every commercial you see on TV.. Yes, there are protections from companies advertizing a gold watch, but selling you an aluminum one.. but thats not the case here.. All Frontier has done was release pretty videos of thier ships flying around.. at no point did they claim it was "actual player view footage"... all they did to is say "Look, our game looks pretty!" and in that sence, they did not lie.. it looks amazing!

Whatever you ASSUME from a game from watching promo videos, is just that.. an assumption.. its best to always keep assumptions in perspective and find out the facts before making decisions

Stop treating them like they're bad guys. You're lucky they are all quite nice, to be honest.

If I was deciding the development roadmap, I'd push back external view an extra month each time I saw another post like yours out of spite. No refunds, no soup for you, two years. By now, I think that in my imaginary FD future development timeline, external views would get implemented around the same time as Chris Roberts achieves his last stretch goal...

I Insist... what is the intention of selling skins if you can not see them ?? on the other hand I have always supported Frontier, so you have no idea what you're talking, even with the theme of offline clear to me that is a necessary topic, but this is different. All trailers are with external camera, because I can not have an external camera also? All games ships have external camera, I include STARCITIZEN although it hurts more than one ass.

I dont want those videos removed for one reason - it shows how awesome this game would be for us players with external views. I honestly cannot fathom out why it is taking so long to get these in the game and I think its about time someone creative mods them in please because I am fed up not being able to see my ship from the outside. I dont care about anything else in the game now, all I want is external views.

If they add a 3rd person view that is not useful for combat (without any cockpit instruments displayed), then I'm fine with it.

i don't mean to sound rude but have you ever played a sim before? The most hard core sims on the market have external view. There is no need to disable it in combat. Only a noob would actually try to fight that way and they would quickly find out why. Silly argument. If you don't like external views don't use them. But to not want them in the game is just selfish. There is no pvp advantage, it is actually a disadvantage!
