I haven't tried it, but I'd assume the camera view adjusts automatically to fit the ship in frame, depending on ship size? I can't see how else it'd work otherwise, given how massively the ships vary in size.

You can move the position of the camera so you can capture not only your ship but friend ships, stations and planets etc....

I hope so :) One day I'll get enough credits to try for myself I guess! Sure is gorgeous, although the resulting screenshot was pretty jaggy and blocky. Is there a way to capture a high quality render without doing a 4k then downsample? Or is that the recommended advice?

Having spent some time with the debug camera, I love it, especially the fact it starts in the perfect view for a cockpit/HUDless shot.

IMHO, just needs:-
1) A bit of inertia added to the movement to smooth it out a bit.
2) The camera to remember where it last was when you return to it.
3) Keys 1-->0 to move the camera to preset/hardcoded positions.
4) The warning when entering it to only be given the first time, and not every time, into it.

it would be grate to have a bedroom and toilet on bored you're ship.. it would be cool to flush turds out into deep space,

Exactly Yes !!! Why aren't all the Realism Freaks jumping on this ??? :D

And Thanks Frontier for adding this cool outside cam view ... Haven't played the game since last year so all new to me.

Next time I play it will probably be when planetary landings are added.

I agree that game play should be kept in cockpit, or 1st person, that is the essence of elite, but I like the idea of a selfie drone for creating some memorable snapshots of my travels around the systems.
I am fine with it being like an interface the pilot uses controling the drone, but would lock you out of ship controls and you could have to pilot it back to dock with your ship, scoop it with your cargo scoop or self destruct in an emergancy to regain control of your ship more quickly. but you can carry a limited amount that would need to be re-stocked when you lose to many.

You could even use them for recon missions to take pics up close of installations, Capital Ships without being detected.. spy drones so to speak :)

Yep, that is exactly why I did stop whining and nagging in this thread... Thanks Frontier for listening!

Oh, and if it breaks somebody's First Person Experience, can you please explain WHY the hell, you mapped the button in the first place?
It's not that you could accidently hit the debug cam button, because by default, it is not assigned.

Noob's first impression: it sure would be cool to have a flyby-type camera similar to nearly every flight sim ever.

If 3rd person view breaks immersion for some people, surely it can just be a switchable option in Settings?

...and nearly two years later... Come on FD? Surely we could do with a small dose of external camera love?
