Fall DLC 2023 Speculation

I see someone has just joined the forums. Welcome mate and thanks for the contribution, don't forget to check out the random_goat meta wishlist while your here.

I do think Tundra does Def need more animals but the diversity in Tundra biomes is considerably less then grasslands. That just goes for colder climates in general, so I don't think we need as many Tundra animals as grassland animals.
I do agree in reality tundra definitely has less diversity that grasslands and this would obviously be reflected in the amount of animals in game I was just picking the extreme ends. There is a balance the game hasn't reached yet with the taiga and tundra animals where it feels I have to go out of my way to use animals that fit those biomes because they make up such a small portion of the animal roster.

The maps and biomes are very problematic for me given their limitations. I don’t expect every bit of the planet to have a realistic map but in the case of New Zealand I would expect a bit less random guessing and a bit more fact checking.
yeah the whole south eastern hemisphere is a mess I was shocked to find that new zealand wasn't mostly temperate because that is all I can think of when I think of new zealand definitely not tropical

I find it really interesting that people often dismiss animals as “needing a lot of work” or impossible due to needing a new rig.

The porcupine and sloth, to name two, show that new or complex animals are still coming out and that is no reason to dismiss anything.
It definitely makes them less likely but those "need a lot of work animals" tend to be the selling points of the packs so they are going to happen and keep happening. For the sloths case however I was sure it wasn't going to be in planet zoo until they brought in the walkthrough exhibits not because of the model complexity but because they move so slowly they wouldn't be able to keep themselves alive as a habitat animals going from food to water to enrichments unless they were made unrealistically fast.

I'm also from the UK and I've never heard anyone think New Zealand is tropical before.
I think it's more of the Google search results - north new Zealand comes up with these sub tropical forests and 'warm' looking beaches (which is funny because north Scotland has the same tropical looking beaches in 5-10C temps). While the south comes up with more of a mix of temperate and grassland looking landscapes.

A slight note, this is not how I view new zealand, I've done my research on the geography of new zealand in the past, something frontier might need to revise if any new zealand animals make it to the game.

Are you sure? I’ve watched dozens of movies and they seem very similar.
I wouldn't say they're nothing alike, given they both share the same semi-sprawled stance and a waddling gait, but they do move in quite distinct ways and wouldn't work on the same rig. Echidnas tend to move both legs on one side of their body at the same time, kind of like a camel, while platypus move the legs on the same side of the body in different directions like most other mammals (see the videos below to see what I mean). Echidnas also have much longer legs, which makes them raised above the ground and exaggerates their waddle even further, while platypus legs are much shorter and they tend to drag their belly across the ground while they walk.

Jumping in with a question:
What are you all think about the antelopes we have in game? Do you think need more, or are you happy with what we have?

I'll start. I think we can all agree the blackbuck is kind of essential. But as far as African antelope go. I would like the kudu. I also really want a duiker, either the yellow-backed or red flanked. But honestly, I wouldn't be super disappointed of we didn't get more.

Honestly, there are so many unique and interesting antelopes, and frankly we cant get enough (depending how long support lasts)
I would like duikers, Nilgai, blackbuck, kudu, blesbok, gerenuk, etc

As an ungulate and antelope lover, I think we do need more antelopes, there're lots of antelope species to add. There're also lots of antelopes that are common in zoos that the game doesn't have. We don't have a single Asian antelope in the game yet which could've been in grassland and arid pack.

Antelopes I would like to see in the game:
Blackbuck and Nilgai for Asian antelope
For African antelopes: Giant/Common Eland, Sitatunga, Lesser/Greater Kudu, Dik-Dik and Roan Antelope

Blackbuck is definitely an essential, others I want to see but won’t die if they’re not in the game by the end are Gerenuk, Kudu, Eland, Dik-Dik, and maybe it’s just me, but I want another oryx preferably the Arabian oryx.

no more African antelope but we have no Asian ones and I’d like a couple of those at the least
