The intent seems to be to run Elite into the ground before it can take off.
Isn't it a bit too late?

I'm not sure if FD may already be aware (I assume yes). But apparently your success has gotten noticed.
.
One of my old corp mates from EvE mentioned last night. Apparently a large group of players from multiple corps on EvE are deliberately targeting Elite, this was going on before to a limited degree but has apparently reached a much more serious and organized level since the Steam launch. The intent seems to be to run Elite into the ground before it can take off. The plan is apparently to target and grief the living crap out of people, new players specifically until people quit and the game dies off.
.
I'd imagine eventually they'll lose interest and give up, but from the sounds of things you'll have a very large group (by Elite standards) of players from outside of the Elite community targeting your player base.
.
Anyway, for what its worth.
Hilarious. Significant numbers of people paying £40 to troll a game? I'm sure FD will be disappointed to take their money off them.
Whiskas for my cat?I will paypal real money to the first player who can make an entire EVE corp RAEG while they squish noobs in Elite and put it on Youtube![]()
Whiskas for my cat?I can try. It might be a tough task to find them in the first place, instancing, 400 billion systems and all that...
This is nothing new, the offlinegate mob have been cheating/griefing since day 1 of open release. They do this (in their own words) to drive people into solo/leave the game to force FD to implement offline/go bust and release the source code.
They've failed its a small (but vocal) bunch of sulky types who can be completely neutered by switching to solo to visit Lave/playing in Mobius or practicing evade and hyperjump.
That sounds unlikely, silly, but very funny conceptually.

Don't. Its technically considered naming and shaming to post a video that has any commander name clearly visible at any given point.I will paypal real money to the first player who can make an entire EVE corp RAEG while they squish noobs in Elite and put it on Youtube![]()
Wow, talk about conspiracy theory. There might be a few players that do this, but I bet most of those that wanted the game exclusively for the offline mode either got their refunds and left or simply wrote off what they paid for the game.
Long term business model for ED was supposed to be selling expansions and store items, and players that have left the game obviously won't purchase those. So, while I don't think this specific threat amounts to much, driving players away will harm the long term prospects of the game.
