FDEV - can we have access to Thargoids too please!

Not necessarily if you are into video editing or photo editing, graphic design... Need I go on. I'm a heavy Photoshop user (I enter images into international salons). A Mac does the job pretty well.

There is literally no difference between a PC and a Mac, apart from the Mac being more restrictive and more costly...

That's very nice but what hoops do you need to jump through to unlock him?
If the requirement is a bung load of work (and I hear it is, cannot face the boring grind myself) then the current Thargoid content is walled off behind that grind.
Sure you could faff around repairing your ship and hoping your cargo hatch doesn't spit it out the things it took you hours to find but why does it need to be such a massive faff?
It's painful and just doesn't need to be.
Just add CRCRs to normal outfitting and stop making ED a pain to play.

If I remember correctly, it's having been 5000 Ly away from the bubble and 25 UA fragments. Everyone should get 5000 ly from the bubble, and the UA fragments are easy. Just go to an Alien crash site, and shoot the UAs, then log, and repeat. I unlocked him in like 30 mins.

er ... you just exactly proved his point. mac is convenient for professional use, not so much for general games (mac does have an exclusive and limited game market of its own)

no practical difference. the mac is a bundled, hassle free product with its own well known brand, that's quite a difference for some, and they are ready to pay for the extra convenience. no problem!

until they also want to play elite on it! :D

Just from a separate point of view. What about those of us that DID put the effort in to gaining the racks? Are you suggesting that after the work involved (which, tbf, isn't THAT much. Except for modular terminals. They're irritating.), those who gained access to Palin should be told 'your efforts are no longer important'?

I hate grind as much as the next guy (I have both the corvette AND imp cutter), but I honestly don't think the engineer unlocking is really that grindy. Half of their requirements you will likely already have. There are no more commodity requirements, so it's just some materials and distance travelled that's really needed for most of them. I unlocked from Elvia onwards in a day.

I'm not saying that Fdev might perhaps have made the main storyline a LITTLE more accessible... but there are a LOT of people taking part already, so it isn't IN-accessible to everyone.

isnt the issue with macs that because of apple not wanting something or other osx cannot handle elite because some piece of coding it needs is missing on macs? so unless the mac runs windows it cant run elite. thats what i used to know. i forget now what the thing its missing is, shaders or soemthing for planets so they couldnt make horizons work on macs i think it was.

if you get thargoids im sure the doctor can give you somthing that will clear them up.

Since Apple abandoned the SD and USB slot it's kind of masochistic to use them for Photography. You are right about the Macbooks, I have two from 2011 and they still work like a charm. There is no plastic layer between keyboard, case and mainboard though, which means every liquid gets directly on the important parts. Replacing stuff is also a PITA. HP is way more professional in this regard. I also don't like that they always use glare displays. Microsoft builds some very high quality products too, and they are actually still innovative without just changing ports for no reason.

I cant stand apple mate, if i didn't get the MacBook 90% discounted id never buy one. I hate the way they remove functionality from the consumer, try to dress it up as a good thing, and people lap it up. Removing connectivity, no SD card slot on the phone so you have to pay £80 more for a 64gig, locking up the OS tighter than North Korea. Cant even charge the bloody phones with the standard charger for every other device! If you so much as Sneeze on an iPhone the screen cracks in 8 places.. Only thing they are good for is creating competition hence more competitive prices for other devices for the consumer.

Oh and incase i made it complicated i always use my PC for Photography, just rely on the MacBook if im doing it on the go (luckily mine still has USB :))

You can have the same with a Surface. Also how is it hassle free if you have to buy 3 different adapters to transfer pictures from your camera? Apple stopped being Professional years ago and most designers, photographers, etc I know agree with me.

I am a little disappointed with Elite right now, in fact that's probably an understatement, maybe I am in the minority here too but im sure you will all let me know in the famous Dangerous discussion but here goes.

So Engineers its great and I find it fantastic that access to level 1 mods are relatively easy, little time input and some marginal gains, if we really want those grade 5 mods we have to work for them, some more than others but you can take it or leave it no big deal.

Those casual explorer gamers unlocking grade 5 DD will hopefully understand the plight of marco qwent, and equally combat pilots the palin 5kly.

But corrosive resistant cargo racks? what the hell were you thinking FD in releasing a Thargoid base there you need a Corrosive resistant rack to transport a probe and UA there to unlock its secrets? this means the thargoids and the whole mystery is locked behind a significant amount of engineer grinding which is apt for grade 5 mods but access to thargoid cut scenes???

really?

and those who say you can do it without the cargo racks, ok... it is possible but if it takes you 3 hours to find a UP and then it corrodes your cargo hatch and flies out in SC while heading to the planet and vanishes into space - in all honesty would you be happy with that as a solution? if ive spent 3 hours finding a UP I want to be guaranteed I can use it!!

I think they need to make corrosive resistant racks more openly available rather than one engineer behind a huge wall so everyone can see the Thargoids from the start rather than having to put in 100 hours of pre work to get a teaser trailer to the thargoids on your own screen without resulting to YouTube, and lets not forget flying around with a UA also increase's the chance of Thargoid flower ship encounters too - its just disappointing new players are missing out and blocked from content

hate, rate, mast... yeah you know the drill discuss away please.

Been participating in this hunt for almost a week now and I haven't unlocked Palin. Run with 2 AFMUs the old school way and it's quite fun actually and keeps you on your toes.

OP you need to chill.

UAs are only easy if you want to go and google them or read through Canonn thread. But there is now way in game to find them and there is high change that if you haven't googled or read forums/reddit you have no idea what UA looks like (is it material or cargo) or where it might spawn. Without googling finding UA or UP is close to impossible.

The UP should be easier to find with better in-game instructions and make the Corrosive resistant rack more widely available for players.

Well thats one piece of content that I won't be experiencing, like CQC, RNGINEERS is toxic. Shameless grind which is a half-hearted attempt at content...

The UP should be easier to find with better in-game instructions and make the Corrosive resistant rack more widely available for players.

I don't tend to argue with making things a little easier, but everything about UP's, unknown sites and Thargoids has been 100% discovered by players ingame. There is no need to 'detailed instructions' about how to find UP's, as there is a TON of information in the forums, and on the Web.

Now, what I suspect you're really complaining about is the lack of player-founds information IN-GAME - and this I think I agree with. Galnet is useless, we all agree with that. I think GalNet needs to be updated to be literally a galaxy-wide internet-type system, with user-created pages. Of course, this could lead to all sorts of problems, most being that any UGC is bound to be completely out-of-place in the game universe. However, something like this would bridge the gap between relying on ingame tools, and having to step outside the game to solve puzzles, and gain information.

I don't know the answer. I toyed with the idea of a 'Facebook-style' in-game social network accessible from an overlaid window - but that's just a sticking plaster over the gaping wound of missing information. FDev don't have the time nor resources to properly moderate any UGC ingame. Short of a voluntary force of players moderating content (which won't work - I have current experience of such work, and I get PAID for it), I don't think there is really any other option.

Since I don't want to see GalNet showing detailed instructions on how to solve ingame puzzles, I don't think there is a good solution to this issue.

Also how is it hassle free if you have to buy 3 different adapters to transfer pictures from your camera?

paying is no hassle for these customers. they are told what to buy, pay, plug in, done. that's what they want. hassle would be having to figure out about connectivity gadgets and options, doesn't interest them.

Apple stopped being Professional years ago and most designers, photographers, etc I know agree with me.

maybe so, then they still ride on the fame they made. i don't really know, i've used them little, i never bought one and likely never will (*), but the people i know (coworkers or friends) using them seem quite happy. what gives! if they are happy i'm happy :)

(*) i had the funny idea to buy a macbook, format it and slap linux on it right away, the hardware was nice. but it seemed too crazy just for the lulz. finally got to my senses and got me a dell xps 13, oh shiny!

just to return to topic and to offer a view not already mentioned (technical details already sorted out): is it really necessary for thargoid content to be immediately accessible to everyone?

this now is about their discovery, after that i expect them to be part of the gameplay. so if someone wants to be a pioneer, see them now and help solve the puzzles and unfold the story, then effort is implicit.

i'm just another pilot. if two species make contact that doesn't mean all individuals are involved in every encounter, only a select few. those who dare, or have fun with the puzzles. i see no need that we all rush there now.

i haven't even experienced a hyperdiction, not to mention the wrecks, but i'm not trying either. i'm doing my own stuff, find it fun to follow the story here. thargoids will come to me.

and if that's not the case, if they are not going to come at me, then what would all the fuzz be about anyway?

TL;DR Give me what I want!

On another note, I have seen cmdrs taking 150 UAs to Colonia... I have personally seen people take a UA with AFMs 5k ly for Palin and back, so it can be done.

You will just have to grind like the rest of us, it ain't hard.

A glance at the Canonn website shows they have made amazing progress today. It looks like about half the sites may have been discovered.

Or find an exploit... :)
