FDev: Credit rebalancing incoming, "more reward for higher risk" activities

Quick summary:
  • Aware that balancing isn't right
  • Done in stages, continuous
  • Mining first, start next week
  • Combat next, start two weeks later
  • "How much earned per hour, different loops, what risk, what reward, skill required"
  • Core mining should be higher paying than laser mining, as more skilful
  • Mining heavily linked to economy via commodities
  • Galnet narrative driven
  • Combat needs to be buffed, better rewards
  • Wing missions not a focus yet
  • Combat missions, bounties, bonds
  • Conflict zones last
  • Won't be a quick fix, will tweak and check data/feedback
  • It feeling right to the player is what matters
  • Been seeing all the existing feedback, videos etc
  • Balancing is super important, on the agenda and a priority
  • Incremental changes
  • Discussions have been ongoing since after Arthur & Bruce joined FDev
  • Skill and risk more rewarded
  • Bulk sale to change to be fairer, average not minimum
  • Rebalancing will be tied with the ongoing storylines
  • Forum post later this week, roadmapping the rebalancing
  • Implementation over the next weeks

All good news.

So is frontier now starting to take its game seriously?
Would be nice if Frontier addressed cheating next and took a harder stance on it.

Load of good stuffs, i like that.
Can we hope they consider changing the way we get enginer mats one day ? I wouldn't be shamefull to talk about this game anymore.

I don't have a source to hand, but I was under the understanding (plus from observations) NPCs of Dangerous and above had mild engineering sometimes. Its most apparent with wing assassinations and CZs, but for the vast majority of the time you hardly see any engineering or unusual Powerplay weapons.

ATR are most certainly G5 though based on the weapon range falloff (i.e. they hurt at max range).

I've never seen anything that specifically said what grade random NPCs were limited to, if any, only that Master and below are never engineered, while Deadly and Elite are guaranteed to be, and that randos (non-ATR, non-SpecOp, non-wing mission targets) don't have weapon specials (which is easily confirmed in game).

Anecdotally, I've seen power management configurations and NPC velocities that would be very hard or impossible to achieve with only G1 mods.

I wish I could remember where I heard it from, but thats what I've always operated on. In any case with Horizons folded down FD can make more capable options and loosen the templates a bit- I've only ever seen a very narrow slice of whats available.

I do remember this though, from From 2.1.03

"- Reduced the number of engineer mods on AI ships substantially, now only Deadly & Elite rank ships are guaranteed to have mods and any below Master are guaranteed to have none"

1st time reported in issuetracker at March 1, 2020, another report October 28, 2020 (which Im sure also will expire no matter there is video which clearly shows what is wrong) ... sorry FDev, but with such approach to bugs fixing I have strong doubts about yours ability do any balancing right.

It would be nice to return back core mining where it was on start (i.e. it pays well but needs skills ... compared to laser mining). However it need first to repair numerous issues related to latest mining "patches" (yes, yes, broken PVA or almost non-existent right content in some hotspost for example) . Overally I like what was mentioned in stream, on the other side Im curious how it will turn out since right now there already is possible achieve relatively "big" money without touching mining, if player know what he is doing.
How has core mining changed at all?

It was Void Opals for days since the mining Changes, other things just overshadowed it.
I just hope the mining "balance" makes fleet carrier ownership nigh on impossible for a single person :)
Going have to to do a lot more than nerf mining, lol.
