FEEDBACK: 2.2.03 Update #4 New VR feature - Enabled dithering for VR to reduce banding.

Need to test it ASAP but if they fixed its' HUGE, stopped playing cause banding was so distracting for me even with important usage of THC.

The worst bit for me was as you fly away from a star and the milky way skybox gradually reveals - previously it was like different layers getting peeled away one at a time, leaving terrible banding. In the beta (not tried the live version yet) this effect was completely eliminated.

Can others please check card temp since the patch please. A couple of us tonight using the Vive have noticed significant increase in temps high 70's while playing, so much so that it started causing artifacts in the Vive.

Would appreciate anyone else who finds this to post please.

So what about dithering? is it enabled by default? I play ED through steam VR, ho do I enable it. And what gamma correction do you suggest me to use now that it is ingame?

I see no difference. Using CV1. Have to test some more. But as I said before, I did not have any of those banding issues before...

The colour banding issue isn't as bad as the shimmering effect that you get from stations and distant objects.

It looks horrible and hurts my eyes at times, even with Super sampling at 1.5 and HMD at 1.25 it's noticeable.

That needs fixing more than anything else IMO

Patched, banding is fixed. No noticeable performance loss.
Great fix FD.

And I just noticed the corvette has a hexagonal pattern on the dash panels.

100% agree. For me the shimmering is by far the worst thing about playing in VR. For LOLs I tried SS at 2.0 and HMD at 2.0, obviously the FPS was around 5 but there was still shimmering present. Yeah I know. Resolution. Straight lines. Aliasing. Bla bla...

Did you have to do anything extra at all? I'm tempted to uninstall reinstall. I was really looking forward to having this look like is used to but I notice zero change. Intro the Frontier logo has that horrible clouding behind it, black smear still there, color banding around sun's still there.

did not check yet, but I don't think there is a new option in the graphics menue. I see heavy banding on the very first Elite Start up screen. But none in game before and after the patch...

The logo intros are video-files (not rgb 0-255 even) and will NOT be affected by any in-game rendering optimizations so don't use them as any sign of change.

That is interesting to know, Thanks! Although I don't remember them being bad until I came back to play around 2 months ago.

Got the chance to do a new comparison that shows the improvements.

First the unaltered screenshot which may or may not show the differences depending on your monitor quality and settings:

And here I have dragged the levels adjuster in Photoshop to make it appear clearly.

I am thinking people is going to want this outside VR too.

Its not fair!

I see absolutely no difference at all. The left screenshot would be the same for me in both release and beta servers :(

How about nebulaes and milky way galaxy clouds from a distance?

I'm in colonia, which is very dense in stars, and it looks infinitely better, gas clouds look like gas clouds, the nebula colour gradients looks good, I've turned the gamma right back down to around 15-20% and can only see a hint of banding if I look really hard, yesterday I had it up to 80% and could still see banding. Around star coronas, I can't see any at all.

Huge improvement in my headset, only thing is, now the gamma is back down, god rays are more apparent.

To a previous post, I've not noticed any rise in my temps, sitting around 60 degrees on a 980ti.

i guess I will have to take a closer look. I do find the HUD and text a bit more readable. But that is probably just my imagination as I want to find a difference...

the difference in image quality was instantly noticeable when I launched the game, when I got into Colonia Hub, and the lights flickered on in the hanger, I thought ooh, hasn't looked like this before.
