Ships Fer-de-Lance Fer-de-Lance Owner's Club

Joined the club, time to see what the fuzz is about. Spent my earnings from the current CGs to buy and outfit it.

Have not decided on the MC's yet.

Made a mistake when engineering the thrusters, turns out I brought the 5E to Palin since I intended to use another ship to fly down to Maia but took the FDL anyway. It was a really good roll too... Not the first time I've spent precious engineer materials on E-rated equipment.

Name is temporary until I can come up with something more serious. :p

Aw, that sucks. Well. The roll would probably have been bad if they were A rated thrusters. (At least that's what I'd tell myself if it were me.)

Interesting ship, the flight model takes some getting used to, but it's really fun just to cruise around in this thing. Found out the hard way that this beast requires some finesse as a I slammed into an asteroid while my shields were down. 6 million credit lesson learned, do not abuse dorsal thrust in the middle of an asteroid field.

But what really had me scratching my head was what kind of weapon layout that felt right, so far I ended up with a C4 pulse, 2x C2 burst and 2x C2 PAs. C4 PA was tempting, and I want at least a 1 fixed weapon to deal with chaff, but if I fail to land the shots I'm left with the mediums to do the work. having 2 mediums and 1 huge to do the work and 2 C2 PAs for shots of opportunity felt more effective for my skill level.

I like using C4 Multi, 2x C2 Multi and either 2x C2 missiles (they just look awesome, and I'm working towards the pack-hounds now) or 2x C2 PA's...

Either way, she is an amazing ship to pilot, IMO... Both Cutter and Python are collecting dust...

On a side note: Has anyone created a FDL in KSP? I've attempted to make one, but, it requires the infinite fuel cheat... But, it's great over there too...

Hey guys, just a quick question.

I'm considering getting an FdL for PVE bounty hunting/combat zones (something like this : https://coriolis.io/outfit/fer_de_l...044a5d326b2f.Iw18aQ==.IwBj4zOUg===?bn=PvE FdL). It has about 13.3ly jump range with this setup. I'd like to know how high I could raise this number with engineer mods alone? I'm hoping I could get something like 18ly or more (which is what I have with my multipurpose Python), to be comfortable enough moving around the bubble. I don't like long trips and the jump range is the only thing stopping me from buying an FdL.

I don't do coriolis, sorry. But last night I threw together a FDL to see how much different it would be with the 8 engineers I have unlocked recently. Last time I flew one it was strictly A-rated.

All A-rated modules except for life support. Mods are:
G5 PP, overcharged to 33.3MW
G5 PD, charge enhanced
G5 class 5 shield, resistance augmented
G3 shield boosters (4 heavy duty, 2 resistance augmented)
G3 DD engines
4A fuel scoop
3C fuel tank
4 C2 burst lasers G5 efficient
1 C4 PA

With this config I get 17.74Ly max jump range.
345/464 top speed/boost speed.
1421 Shield strength.

It's about the best I can do with the engineers I have unlocked and a three or fewer rolls for each module. I'll be taking it out this afternoon and seeing how it does in a haz res. Last night I tried four C2 PAs and one C4 beam, but every time I pulled the trigger on the PAs I kept spiking the heat gauge and getting overheating warnings. It was a lot of fun though. :)

FYI...I get about 10 more Ly of FSD range on my similarly equipped Python that can carry 144t of cargo. I can't get that kind of range from my FDL without stripping all of the weapons.

Here is my modded FDL. Sorry I am trying to put a link to my FDL from Coriolis but for some strange reason it deletes a lot of my engineered upgrades and therefore the info is wrong. I am getting 18.7 - 19.6LY jump range @ G5 inc range, with a speed of 347ms and boost of 470ms @ G3 dirty grade, 35.9MW @G5 overcharged PP.

Coriolis... you should do it.

That version of coriolis.io is outdated and no longer supported. Update your bookmark with this one: https://coriolis.edcd.io/

The build you linked will look like this in the updated version, https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/fer...18aQ==.Aw18aQ==..EweloBhAOEoUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A=.

Clicking the small wrench icon opens up options for you to add engineering blueprints where available, your FDL could reach over 19LY with a good FSD roll.

Mass-wise, you are pretty close to my combat build, if I remember correctly (can't check at the moment). It jumps 20.10ly with a +49.5% FSD.

I recommend A rated life support with the lightweight mod, btw. 25 minutes of oxygen for the mass of 7.5

Now a proud owner of an FdL!!! (on PS4!)
(struggling to fit it without engineering)
I'd like suggestions for the ship kits, and other cosmetics!!

I'm late comer to this owner's club. I've had a Corvette, Cutter, and Anaconda for over a year. I collect ships and I just bought an FDL a few months ago just to see what it was like. At first, I wasn't impressed.

In the last two weeks, I finally decided (after 2 trial runs) on a weapon load out and fully engineered the FDL. I am in love with this ship! Yes, I still use the big 3, and the Python, but I love to go cruising around/hunting in this ship.

Here is my current build. The Large MC has the auto-loader effect, the C2 MC has Corrosive, and all three beams have Regenerative Array (to help out my newbie wingmates). At some point, I'll probably put some rail guns on it again. Those are just fun.

Thanks guys for the answers!

Starbreaker > Yeah I noticed this after I posted, thank you for putting my build into the new site.

1 word for the FDL, Packhounds!!!!!!! I have 1 C4 MC and 2 C2 MC's. All engineered. This is my hunting ship, and she's amazing at it! Especially, in VR!!! Best cockpit, but, the ASP is close!

Good fight and loadout with Legendary Chicken in his FDL vs one tanky Python:

Bought my first FDL last night, after deciding I needed something different to my A rated Vulture for combat.

It took me a little while to adjust to the way this thing flies and fights in combat but I love it. The noises is makes, the looks, the fact i can see the weapons fire just below the cockpit window, its awesome.

I have some questions though as im using the FDL for hi/haz res bounty hunting.
As the ship is basically in original spec bar a set of burst lasers and a set of mc's I am unsure of what to put in the huge slot. How effective are lasers on it? It it worth a punt on lasers or stick with MC/Cannon?
