Final roster speculation thread

Spring or Autumn 2024 (interchangeable)

Boreal Scenery Pack

Scenery: wood and rock, cabin and NA aboriginal art themed.

Roster:

1. American black bear: iconic animal missing from NA, there is demand for this animal specially from NA playera base which seems to be important, could have color morphs and come with climbing animations.
2. Musk ox: high in metawishlist, ommited from the Eurasia animal pack, one of the most wanted caprine, unique and recognizable, not as likely as bear because is a perfect fit for a Winter themed DLC, also found in Europe.
3. Wapiti: one of those animals that is not high in the metawishlist but is mentioned quite often and is iconic of the region and biome, would go great with chorus behaviour and cool sound design and a chance to add it to red deer, more interesting that the WTD, also found in Asia.
4. Arctic hare: the ubique rig, a lagomorphs has been highly requested as it is one of the few basic popular animal types still not ingame, could use the quokka as base but ofc highly modified, could have color morphs for the different skins.
5. Exhibit: Bald eagle (i wish lol)... Idk maybe WT with squirrels and Chipmunks? I sure don't want a boring frog.

Summer 2024

🎉🌈LATINAMERICA ANIMAL PACK🎉💚

My most anticipated DLC

Animals from Central and South América

1. Greater rhea: the last ratite still missing, very common bird in SA, very common in captivity, has a lot of interspecies enrichments and mixes possibilities, there is current demand for it as THE SA bird we should have, would be easy because it is a clone of the ostrich.
2. Ocelot: another clone animal, carnivore and cat so Frontier would be excited, could help fixing the clouded leopard since i imagine it Will be based on that rig, it is a small/medium sized cat from tropical América with a wide range from South to North, common in captivity, arboreal and nocturnal.
3. THE MONKEY: what everyone has been asking for. Could be either howler or spider, since they are the most requested. Howler benefits from chorus behaviour and is easier to make, it also has color dimorphism, there is a sign for it ingame already (we assume it is a howler at least). Spider is very popular but would require as much work as the porcupine probably, with their prehensile tail although they could make it work similar to the gibbons.
4. Second monkey or oddball: if they really want to please use then a second monkey is the way to go in this pack. A smaller one would be a good compromise. Golden lion tamarin seem to be the prefer choice. The colorful fur makes it very atractiva even as the face of the pack but their small size and unique movements could be a challenge to implement so they may go the route of the squirrel monkey (capuchin clone, common in captivity, cute looking, lots of interspecies possibilities). As far as the oddballs go could be anything from the Tamandua to another armadillo to the agouti or Bush dog. Depends on which animals we get as a whole since Bush dog and coendu for instance would need some dedicated work on them.
5. Patagonian mara: Patagonia is in red right now (quite literally if Frontier pays attention to the map of the roster). It is the region of SA with the most need of representation. Just adding the mara and rhea will help solve that. Maras are also very common in zoos, perfect for walkthrough habitats, petting zoos and for mixed species habitats as well. As chill as the capybaras is a rodent that looks like a mix between a rabbit and a a antelope ( and they even jump like them), would use the burrow as well.
6. THE CLONE: Southamerican tapir is a Big ungulate. Frontier likes big ungulates and is basically a clone that just needs model work. Could open the possibility of finally them fixing the malayan tapir. Even so, the lowland tapir is a common and very important species from tropical South América, very common in captivity and very widespread across the continent. Guanaco is another option for an easy clone. Is basically a wild llama with a red fue but is very very common through the South of SA, giving more rep yo Patagonia and the SA mountain deserts. I guess a flamingo is unfortunally also an option here.
7. Southamerican coati: an arboreal cute social carnivore that is the most requested SA animal at the moment. Perhaps the unique rig of the pack and maybe even the flagship animal. Common in captivity and popular.
8. Exhibit: there are several reptiles and amphibians that could fit here. We would love birds (hummingbirds, toucans, macaws... Without them SA and CA will never be complete) but we know they are not coming so i will go with either the green anaconda or the two toed sloth.

Autumn 2024

Hard to guess. Mountains is more suited for winter but i think the roster is somewhat límited in what it is trully essential now that takin and wolverine are out of the way.

Scenery could be Tibetan/Himalayan themed.

Roster:

1. Markhor: ommited from the Eurasia pack so i feel they are saving it. Out of the mountains goat's left is the one with the most support and is pretty iconic. Great beard, cool horns.
2. Spectacled bear: the last of the short face bears will be our last bear of the game as well. Very, very requested. Cute face markings that could get variants for individuality sake. Lives in the tropical Andes and it also represents the cloud forest. Fairly common in captivity. Unique from other bears in behaviour, habitat, genetics and looks. And the last big animal missing from SA.
4. The mountain monkey: we know is going to be Gelada, but the GNSM would be such a Frontier move that would make me happy (and others angry lol). There is a chance we could get hamadryas but i doubt it (at least in this pack). Geladas are very distinct, not as scary looking as hamadryas and vegetariana. They also live the mountains of Ethiopia, as in África, Frontier second most loved continent. Would be fairly easy to make from the mandril so basically a clone.
4. The wild card: i hope is a pheasant (or any bird) . The peafowl rig is still to be reused for something and with their feathers display and being also galliformes are the perfect choice for that. With the rest of the animals in this pack being pretty much clones maybe this would the one that they dedícate the most work. I guess we could get another caprine (chamois, mountain goat) or something like an Alpine marmot. But let's face it, is going to be the Palla's cat: small cute grumpy fluffball with meme and cuteness value appealing to general audience. Could use the sand cat rig as base.
5. Exhibit: giant chinese salamander, or japanese. I know that because of their size people want them as habitat but common they barely move and the exhibit boxes are huge. They would be perfect.

Anniversary: Nile crocodile

Winter 2024

Oh boy this one might be the last pack or the last common DLC we get before Frontier going dead silence for 6 months before dropping a final farewell pack with a bit more animals than usual.

Is winter but i feel like a tundra pack would be lackluster as a final pack. Sure we get the walrus and what else? Maybe then a more general coastal animal pack for a regular DLC?

A pack that goes around the world would be nice as a final DLC. I'm going on the assumption this is going to be our last pack. Maybe a bit of scenery and a couple more animals (does 12 sound too unrealistic?). And no, is not birds, but we get a bunch of them

Discovery Expansion

1. Secretary bird (unique rig), the most requested animal in the metawishlist right now. One of the most iconic birds there are.
2. Grey crowned crane: beautiful common in captivity and endangered. Very useful for mixed savannah enclosures.
3. Serval: the missing popular cat. Could be based on the caracal but has a very distinctive look and is popular and common in zoos.
4. Honey badger: now that we got the wolverine, his african cousin is very likely. Equally fearsome and popular on the internet.
5. Blackbuck: easily the most claim for asían antelope. The key piece missing from India. The one everyone thinks should've been there instead of the saiga. Beautiful coloration, sexual dimorphism and spiral horns.
6. Short beaked echidna: another pretty unique rig but one of the few iconic and weird Australian animals still missing. Will complete the monotreme group in a way.
7. A pelican: i think this type of bird has been asked for since i can remember and now with the swan the chances of getting one have become a reality. If there is a coastal pack i expect to find it there but if not then in a final pack as well.
8. Rockhopper penguin: another clone, but a very particular species that is very recognizable and different from the other penguins. A penguin would no be my priority but in a final pack i can see it happen.
9. Perentie: the monitor that is missing for Australia. One of the reptiles of the pack.
10. African spurred tortoise: the other reptile. Also a clone but adds to the desert biome and is not a giant which makes it more versatile.

The other 2 could be exhibit animals. 1 WT, 1 box. Or two boxes: chameleon and cobra.

This is just all wishfull thinking of course but i tried to acomodate both my personal wants and the community requests.

Truth is. If we really have 2 DLCs left we are in a very dire situation. As you can see there are lots of important animals that would be left out.

I can only make some loose predictions, but I’m gonna guess the following:
  1. We will get more birds, even if it’s just a waterfowl to reuse the swan rig. While I have said in the past I think we could get a bird pack (I think things have been looking better, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get one) I think it’s just more likely birds are used more in packs. Still, the community has been pushing for them more, and around 20 species have broken the meta wishlist top 100.
  2. We will get a South America or Latin America pack, and probably an animal pack at that.
  3. We will get our last pack on the 5th anniversary, and it will probably be an even bigger pack than what we usually get. So instead of getting an October DLC it will come out a month later so it can develop more.

Okay last time I just predicted a couple of likely animals. Here are a few packs I think are likely for us to round out what is likely to be our final year of support:

Spring 2024
  • Dutch Rabbit
  • African Dwarf Goat
  • Common Mallard Duck
  • Scottish Highland Cattle
  • Fancy Rat (E)

  • Southern Tamandua
  • Spectacled Bear
  • Greater Rhea
  • Patagonian Mara

  • Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth (WE)

Boreal Pack
Autumn 2024

  • Wood Frog (E)

Mountains Animal Pack
Winter 2024

I can see, several options but I think there are two paths. Pack mascots are listed first and exhibit animals second.

Woodlands Pack
Scenery: Native American-inspired
  • American black bear (since it’s so requested) / Wild turkey (the better option)
  • Tuatara
  • European wildcat
  • Goodfellow’s tree-kangaroo
  • Wild turkey / North American porcupine / Wood duck (dependant upon mascot)

Americas pack
Scenery: None, it’s an animal pack
  • Sea otter
  • Utila spiny-tailed iguana
  • American flamingo
  • Black howler monkey / Golden lion tamarin
  • Bush dog
  • Greater rhea
  • Muskox
  • Spectacled bear
Safari Pack
Scenery: None, it’s an animal pack
  • Olive baboon
  • Pancake tortoise / Jackson’s chameleon
  • Blesbok
  • Common eland
  • Kirk’s dik-dik
  • Rock hyrax
  • Secretary bird
  • Serval
I then think support will end.
Please note, my wanted list is very different

If that is our américas pack i will scream and go cry in a corner.

Ok reading it again is not that bad haha but i really need a full pack dedicated to just latinamerica and not all of américa.

Honestly my Americas pack would be a bit different:
  1. American Black Bear
  2. Black Howler Monkey
  3. American Flamingo
  4. Burrowing Owl
  5. Brown Pelican
  6. Coati
  7. Ocelot
  8. I have no idea for an exhibit animal. Anything is fine with me
While I would prefer a Latin America pack, I think we could go for a more cross continental thing

I was trying to go with an actually plausible scenario not just a wishlist

This is probably the best and most realistic roadmap I’ve seen so far.

I hate to be a doomsday but something tells me update 1.20 could very well be our last. At some point frontier will have to pull staff to start working on other projects if that’s the case please get working on Planet Aquarium or Planet National Park (I forget who came up with that idea, I really liked it).
Who knows, support is strong. Heck cities skylines kept pushing out new stuff to almost 7 years.

Many of you have created very realistic ideas above on animal roster so Il keep mine short or skip some.

Maybe they will change the formula on us, they know we are in dire need of SA animals so maybe they will start with the Latin American animal dlc first.
2nd dlc is the build dlc of a Woodland theme. Log cabin style with overgrowth or moss like growth. ABB, Roosevelt elk, Capercaille, a rabbit and a WE of songbirds set of 5
3rd is another build which I’d like to think of as a worlds fair type theme. The animals would be completely random and not from the same continent. New food vendors and live music venues would be a thing. Or this could be a north Asian theme. Regardless of the theme I really want WE koi ponds to make their way into the game.
4th A super sized animal dlc that is also the final farewell. This one would also not hold to the unofficial rules of other dlcs, meaning more then one monkey, canid etc. likely there may be a lot of clones or easy models fair warning. But there will also be highly requested animals that were not covered in dlcs mentioned above. Maybe 15 habitat animals, 5 exhibits and maybe a couple of WE.
Or it will be a normal animal dlc of which I’m not thinking of right now. Then no spring 2025 and then they return before the end of their year in the summer and then release this supersized farewell dlc.

I especially agreed about the African bear. And since Eurasia Animal pack had sloth bear, if one bear species will to be there, then so should one more bear species to make ALL eight bear species (plus one brown bear subspecies) to be in Planet Zoo.
