For the sake of their sanity Fdev please. Throw Explorers a bone with this update.

Why bother?
If we were content with the game play we'd be told we are wrong, or don't understand, or not a real explorer

So tired of the group think of this forum of "Well your not a real X, Y or Z" if you don't agree with a select core, and be told you are not playing the game right, as if you were there is not conceivable way you could ever disagree with them

It's more of a treasure hunt but come out to conflux for a few days and knock off some of the 200 plus days of planet eyeballing we have to do.

If after that you think exploration content is fine I'll never question your opinion on anything.

Would help stop me going mad too just to know the maximum number of days has dropped too.

Nah, there are a good number of explorers who are content with the game as it is today. Happiness, contentment, dissatisfaction, all are very subjective terms. However, most of them would still agree that exploration has been neglected by Frontier from a development point of view, and that there is huge potential for improvements and new mechanics. Even a lot of combat diehards agree that exploration has been neglected too much by Frontier, it's not just the explorers who are asking for a change. Many people would like to go out exploring but simply find it deathly boring in it's lackluster state of development, so they currently ignore it completely.

I've pretty much stopped playing full stop as I'm explorer and there's not much content. Don't get me wrong all the tweaks and the bit of content we have got have been very good, for a while. But the actual mechanics of exploration are bunk, utter bunk. Not a chance in hell fd are getting money early from me for the next season, I'm going to wait and see what they do and if it's more of the same then the money stays in my wallet.

This 100% I have tried to get into the explorers state of mind. But it just isn't happening with the way things are right now. Comets, more nebulas, supernovas, etc whatever you name can change this for me.

Due to a severe lack of game mechanics there is really only one way to garner satisfaction from Elite exploration: you need to be the kind of player who loves sightseeing and taking pictures. You need to be someone who can make your own content in light of a lack of actual content. If you can't do that, then exploration in Elite is most likely not fun for you currently. This is why the beige planet issue has become such a huge deal for today's explorers in the game, losing so much scenery hit us hard, because sightseeing is really all we have to do in game.

And this is a sad reflection of the state of the Exploration "career", particularly given the numerous and detailed suggestions for improving it on the Exploration forums over the past years (literally).

Shouldn't we wait until 2.4 or 3.0 for an exploration expansion? I'd much rather have a fully-fleshed update instead of something cobbled together in the next few weeks.

Move all rare mined-only materials far outside of the human bubble. Put them in certain regions of the galaxy or found only in certain types of clusters of stars.

Make these items persistent at stations in the bubble when they're sold to the station. These items can be used for missions for now. But in the future, can be the precursors of crafting items. Synthesis of certain things can be the stepping point.

That tiny change would be amazing for exploration. And it would actually allow the "rarity" of the item to make sense in an economy that's otherwise full of infinite everything.

I doubt there will be much if any exploration content added in 2.3 anyway - unless Frontier are having a right old laugh at threads like this and 2.3 is about to unleash some sort of exploration-related content.

So, going on the expectation of nothing much changing for 2.3, I'm 'patiently' waiting for such in future releases. I'm still rather frustrated, to be sure, but since there is no choice but to wait, then waiting it has to be.

That's not to say that there shouldn't be forum threads calling for exploration mechanics and content - FDEV really does need to get the hint that it's just not on devoting an entire season towards 'explosions', neglecting other areas and player bases doing so.

If they are going to keep putting more objects in and expect them to be found for plot line they are going to have to do something, and something better than they have with ruins simply appearing. Might as well give us a map for every site for all the gameplay that involves.

There will be endless complaints either way.

Yeah true, but as long as it's not some stupid little mini-game I will try to love it and keep stumm. But if I started having to rearrange puzzles or play Tetris to discover something I don't think I could keep silent.

Maybe they can sell us an alternative Honk sounds on the store. Is that "boney" enough for you lol? Seriously though, I would rather have some flesh with the bone, and a side of salad...

This. This. This.

The detractors and apologists here in the thread need to commit themselves to go exploring and then come back and see what we are talking about here. The "content" for exploration is a side issue that comes with the provision of halfway stimulating mechanics to find the content with. These mechanics do not exist aside from jumphonk and pointing yourself at the non persistent cookie cutter irritating USS gameplay vehicle.

I am naught but a casual explorer....and even *I* know how hard done by true explorers are. I desperately wanted to go looking for cool stuff like Geysers in 2.2.....but aside from 2 very lucky finds in the Beta, no such luck :/. It really shouldn't be that hard. I don't want the scanner to show up geysers etc in neon lights, but it should at least be able to warn me of "X Natural PoIs between Co-ordinates Y & Z".

You have my vote. I'd love to see the UI concepts someone whose name I forgot posted here ("a year's worth of UI concepts" was the thread title I believe) realized in the game. Damn that'd be g amazing.

Did the Eagle Nebula and back and it sank in: Exploration isn't really doing anything. Honk. Point. Listen to beeps while waiting.

Wait to jump. Wait to scoop. Wait to scan. Wait to jump. This game feels like 90℅ waiting, 10% playing, outside of combat.

I want so badly to see this change, but I fear engine limitations are an issue.

I'm starting to think about engine limitations too. So many simple improvements are put off, the multiplayer aspect of the game seems to be in the way every time. Maybe multiplayer came at too high a cost.

You know, I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to accept a crew member as a gunner in my weaponless Asp.

As I have said before......at the very least we should replace the existing suite of discovery and surface scanners with scanners rated E to A, with the rating impacting on maximum scan range, minimum scan range (for secondary scans), time required to scan, & the range at which USS's and PoI's get revealed on your display. Scanner rating should also impact how much surface detail is revealed at a given range......and the size of the search area within which PoI's are revealed.

Scanner rating should also effect how much detail about USS's is revealed with an Active Scan (# of ships, tonnage of ships, life signs, # and rarity of materials, that kind of thing).

If they offered us this much, I'd jump out into the black in a heartbeat.
