Free Update Meta-Wishlist

In real zoos, most of the time (barring certain specific circumstances) the eggs of birds and reptiles are taken from the nest, hatched in an incubator, and then raised to a certain point before being either introduced to a microhabitat (reptiles) to grow, or returned to the parents (birds) to finish raising them, or simply hand-reared to adulthood.
This is all I want the animals to lay the eggs and keepers take them away to hatch in a facility

But that's so pointless and adds nothing to the gameplay. Which is also Frontier's stance on the matter.

I'm not going to dig through the forums to find out where it was said, but it was said.

I can see it from two points of view regarding the iguana - as Konig says, it's possible to do it (Frontier probably doesn't want to because A: it would mean adding an animal already in the game into the game again and B: it would open a can of worms regarding exhibit animals), but I also think the issue should rest since Frontier's word on the matter was very recent and fairly final.

Edit: One thing I badly want is a completely remake of the orangutan from the ground up, but it would be the same thing; basically putting the animal into the game again while taking up development time that could be put towards something new. So, I know it's a pipe dream and not really worth mentioning.
Unfortunately I think that the orangutan will never be updated there is no way they would have wasted time on giving it brachiation animations if they were planning on red doing the model

You could say that for about half the feature people want.
But for me it adds realism the idea that birds and reptile don't just give live birth but are harder to take through the birthing process just makes more sense then having everything be the same difficulty to breed. Also for things like the platypus casual players may not even know they lay eggs one of the more unique things about monotremes.

Not really a surprise, like many controversial "nonsensical" wishes its mostly pushed for due to zoo tycoon nostalgia.
You see it with animal choices, where many animals like the ehtopian wolf or japanese serow that have no reason to be even part of the discussion being mentioned just due to nostalgia and others like the secretary bird also greatly benefitting from the fact that it was in zoo tycoon first.
And i mean i get the idear, there is a first person mode and taking care of the animals yourself is cool and something many people would like to do irl + it has been done before so why not?
Well several reasons actually.
For one, it doesnt really fit with the current gameplay. Unlike Zoo Tycoon 2 Planet zoo is about Building first, animals second and then a loooooooong gap to management and anything else, which in some aspects is a shame. Things like the Zoo Tycoon 2 Missions, Random Events, Star rating unlocking animals or emphasis on taking screenshots of the animals all fit into the management gameplay and would help with Planet Zoos pacing problems, as just building is quite exhausting so some smaller management for inbetween to take a breather is quite nice.
Thats why i for example would very much love a camera feature for the game, with an ingame gallery to look at your pictures, because the game popping up inbetween and going like "Hey you want some extra conservation credits by watching your cute animals and photographing them doing specific things?" would be a nice shake up that wouldnt be to hard to add, as the function to take a picture of your screen is literally baked into the hardware your running the game on.
So whats the difference with the keeper mode? To keep it short, money and devolpment time are the biggest reasons. It shouldnt be to hard for frontier to put a gloriphied screenshot gallery into the game, meanwhile keeper mode would actually do need some effort.
Keeper Mode needs atleast somewhat resembling a gameplay loop, atleast i doubt being able to press e to refill a food bin and using a poop scoop to scoop some poop would satisfy anyone while also creating theoretical game ballance issues as you dont need staff or atleast reduced staff if you do a tedious job instead yourself.
So what would that gameplay loop look like?
If you ask me, something thats in anyway desireable would look more like a small minigame collection in planet zoo. You can interact with different staff facilitys and do some mini games, while also pressing e to refill food and scooping poop on the side.
Lets say in the keeper hut you can prepare meat, fruit, fish, hay and/or water with small actions, cooking mama style. Cut the meat by sliding the mouth, pluck the salad, cut the fish in a different pattern, chop some fruits and vegies by rhytmically tapping, filling the water bucket juuuust right, you get the deal.
The break room could be a quizz, the vet could be spot the difference between a healthy pic and your ill animal, security office scrolling through the zoos cameras trying to find a wrong doer, you get the idear.
Now with that said, all these mini games would need new menus, ui, backgrounds, etc etc etc, but for what?
For people to play them once or twice to grow bored and never touch them again?
Planet Zoo is a building + management game that also attracts animal nerds, and as someone who likes all three of those things, a halfbaked minigame collection still doesnt sound appealing, something less even more so.
People are annoyed at frontier all the time when an update didnt have anything "for them" in it, with many features like the height maps, dinoramas or camera tours often being dismissed, but now imagine an update with literally nothing but some minigames that add nothing to the actual building or management part of the game, making this a dead update for everyone that does not like them or doesnt think that they are worthwhile.
It would easily be one of the biggest and most ambitious updates for whats essentially a gimmick people ask for out of nostalgia for a 20 + year old game.

Now imagine all this effort would instead be put into different exhibit sizes or animal personalitys, something literally everybody could get on board with.
so you want a camera mode which would require a whole new ui and menu when there is already something similar in the game that would have a small gimmicky gameplay loop.
also one of the biggest complaints I see about the game as a whole is that it is a glorified building sim ill welcome anything that add more gameplay and I do actually like our camera idea.
All I want out of a keeper mode is to not have to rely on the stupid keeper ai if they fix that ill be happy without a keeper mode.

Thats fair, sorry i didnt mean to hurt anyones feelings. Its simply why i personally think that its not the best additions regarding how much it costs vs what we get out of it. And really?
Just click and fill food bowls and poop scooping? I really dont see the appeal but i guess that shouldnt be that hard to implement so why not
When people want keeper mode this is usually what they are referring to maybe with like a click on animals or toys to play a petting animation I personally just want to not have to deal with the headache that is getting a keeper to function properly for a 4 habitat zoo.

Forgive the long list, but I was trying to be exhaustive and throw my support toward some of the great ideas already implemented (while only posting once myself). Haha. Underlined text implies a new/unique addition from myself! Everything else is already represented in the list. Tried to make it easier on the vote-counter...

Major Additions:
  • Scaling: Ability to re-size all Nature and Construction objects. Would potentially be limited (e.g., only being able to scale 1:1 across all axes rather than change length, width or height individually) but would still allow creativity to be busted wide open!
  • Thememaker's Toolkit: Pretty self-explanatory!
  • Add random visits from Bernie Goodwin into the game from your zoo! I'm partially joking here but it would be fun to get random visits from the various in-game celebs.
Animals:
  • Reworks:
    • African lion: Giving them a remaster to bring them up to "modern standards" would really let them shine.
    • Clouded leopard: Just the jumping animation and I'm good!
  • Exhibits:
    • Exhibit Overhaul: Modular approach allowing for smaller boxes for smaller animals (e.g., the bugs shouldn't be in a 4x4 box) and bigger exhibits for some of the bigger animals (e.g., iguanas and anacondas)
    • Non-walkthrough Exhibit: Sure, we can try to build over or hide the path... But it would be nice to just tick a box and have it go away!
  • Feeders:
    • Realistic Feeders: For example, smaller bowls/trays for prairie dogs or fennec foxes and larger elevated hay feeders for ungulates.
  • Behaviours:
    • Pangolin climbing
  • Enrichment:
    • Allow hammocks to be used by other animals (e.g., primates, other bears, big cats)
  • Other features:
    • Ambient animal effects
Nature:
  • Plants
    • Foliage Brush
    • More broken trees, branches and saplings
    • Toggle foliage hitbox to null
    • Flexicolor Foliage - Primarily for temperate trees and flowers!
  • Rocks
    • Volcanic Rock Flexicolor
    • Faux Rock walls
  • Gardens
    • Additional evergreen shrubbery
Scenery
  • Signs and Statues
    • Consistent Signage and statues for all animals in the style if recent DLCs!
    • Mirror Statue Set
  • Building Sets
    • Flexicolor for base game sets (in particular the brick walls and indian-themed items!)
    • Mesh and chainlink building set
    • Aviary-style netting roof/building set
  • Scenery Item Requests
    • New fonts
    • New editable signs: Additional shapes and sizes for editable signs, including a thin easily hideable (i.e., "null" sign) that is easier to embed and hide. Another great addition would be an editable sign that allows for paragraph breaks!
    • New implied sign building pieces (e.g., smaller primitive pieces, straight lines that could be used to make implied info signs, restaurant menus, etc.)
    • Staff facility objects
    • Add all fence railings as placeable scenery
    • Carousels: A single new ride that could come with a relatively "generic/null" feeling base and a range of 4-6 different animal "covers" that could be put over the seats. As well as a range of decals/signage and decor that would be perfect for decorating the top of the carousel itself! And obviously this would be usable for guests for a fee!
Paths & Maps:
  • Paths
    • Null elevated path
    • Null staff path
      One way path
  • Maps
    • City Map
Facilities:
  • Food and drink shops
    • More food and drink shop options (in particular, I would like to see Asian cuisine, popcorn, pretzels, and vegan options)
    • New Tables for restaurants (including some that are more in the style of the "benches" we have)
  • Gift shops
    • Plushies/Stuffed Toys
    • Clothes Shop
  • Placeables
    • Binoculars
    • Maps for guests
    • Photobooth
    • Elevators
  • Existing facility improvements
    • Null Wall options for staff buildings
  • Media devices
    • New custom screen sizes and shapes: New sizes and shapes for custom billboard/TV screen pieces (e.g., poster- or vinyl record-sizes; circle; hexagon; triangle)
Miscellaneous
  • Custom signs lighting issue
  • Control the Sun

Well that could be said for any of the reworks we all keep requesting, there's a slim chance of frontier moving development into essentially making a new animal so instead we got a half baked improvement of our orange gorilla swinging on thick logs instead of the actual rework we all wanted. As it stands votes have the orangutan at the highest requested rework in the wishlist. The only 'rework' that actually has a chance at happening is the clouded leopard where the only change it needs is to remove its slow jumping.

I hope they can rework tapir

I would actually add the carousel to major new additions. It is not just a simple scenery piece or a transportation ride. I know its similar to the carousel mechanics from planet coaster but entirely new gameplay (of sorts) to planet zoo.

Considering how commonplace carousels are, I'm surprised this is the first time it has been brought up.

Makes sense to me. But yeah, I'm a little surprised it hadn't come up yet in this list either! Especially considering how frequently it gets mentioned/brought up in random contexts.

I finally have some time to sit down and write my proper list.

Animals:
1) Add deep swimming for the Nile monitor
2) Add Africa tag to red deer (they are found in North Africa, as stated on the zoopedia)
3) Remove North America tag from the Capuchin Monkey (it should only have the South America / Central America tag)
4) Add North America tag to Baird's tapir and Spectacled caiman, since those two animals are found in Mexico.
5) Add Africa and Europe tag to Monarch butterflies (even the zoopedia says they are found on these two continents during migration)
5) Make emu walk-through
6) Remove walk-through from giant anteater
7) Giant panda appeal should be the highest in the game
8) Fix clouded leopard slow jumping animation
9) Add burrow to Arctic fox
10) Chinese Pangolin, Asian Water Monitor, and the Nile Monitor should be able to climb
11) Fix zoopedia map for several animals (Indian elephant, King penguin, West African lion, greater flamingo, bongo, European peacock, Bactrian camel)
12) Reduce habitat space for common hippo

Exhibits:
1) Smaller terrariums
2) Interchangeable exhibit biomes (for animals that have several biomes, we can choose which style we want)

Education boards:
1) Allow the use of education boards for walk-through outside the exhibit box (next to the box, like with normal exhibits)
2) Add aquatic biome icon to the education boards and images on TV for the 6 animals that got aquatic biome tag on update 1.13 (the 2 elephants, jaguar, Africa buffalo, Indian rhino and Nile monitor)

Enrichment items:
1) Make burrows flexicolour (on the outside) so that they can match any other rocks.
2) Add block of frozen fish to Formosan black bear
3) Add foraging wall to other animals, for example other bears (only sun bears can use it)
4) Add natural termite mount to aardvark and sloth bear
5) NEW: deer pinata (based on the zebra/pronghorn pinata)
6) NEW: scratching trees for the remaining biomes (we only have 2)
7) NEW: smaller version of foraging pool and foraging box
8) NEW: larger version of tunnel/hollow tree

Scenery pieces:
1) Add missing Desert Horned Viper sign to the Arid Animal Pack
2) Add Consistent Signage and statues for all animals
3) Add Basic white silhouette signs for every animal
4) Flexicolor for base game sets
5) Mesh and chainlink building set
6) Add pebbles panels (like the mulch ones)
7) Add Missing small logo signs for just a momento and loony bloons
8) Add Missing small ATM sign
9) Fix Cosmic Cow "Small" shop signs being too big (and Monsieur frites too)
10) Fix visitors can't look at animals through gothic fence pieces (Twilight pack)

Paths:
1) Null elevated path
2) Null staff path
3) See-through path material (glass path)
4) Option to remove kerbs from elevated paths

Facilities:
1) Hotels (like in Planet Coaster)
2) More food and drink shop options (bring the ones from Planet Coaster World Fair)
3) New Tables for restaurants (wooden ones for example)
4) Carrousel
5) New realistic gondola/chairlift ride

Barriers:
1) Ned barriers: stable wooden planks, iron bars, natural rock...

Other:
1) Let us disable mechanical research OR animal research in sandbox instead of both of them
2) Manual temperate control in sandbox
3) Fix the alphabetical sorting
4) Add collapsible headers for facilities management page (like we have in the staff management page)
5) Add Contraceptive button for exhibits in the exhibit window like the habitat windows has
6) Fix the terrain of temperate maps so that we can use the terrace tool and create shallow water
7) Fix workzones not being displayed alphabetically on the staff management window

Translation errors in Spanish:
1) Repeated word in inspector notification "La inspectora llegará en X meses meses" ("the inspector will arrive in X months months"
2) Timber wolf should be translated as "Lobo gris" instead of "Lobo del Mackenzie"

Does a central America tag even exist? The zoopedia states south america and central America for suitable continents while the actual tags only come under north or south america. Central America is part of North America so it isn't wrong.

Yes, the game tags are "South America / Central America" , "North America", "Africa", "Europe" "Asia", "Oceania" and "Antarctica". So Frontier has always put Central America with South America, separated from North America.
