[FSD] Add Star Class to Jump display

Simple request, add the star class under the system name, just above the horizontal line.

Having the Star Class in the Info data is suboptimal because it clears after a moment.

If you think this is a reasonable request, like it to show support.

only if they remove the other repetitive places it tells you, why you need to be told four times where your jumping to in prominent places is bonkers, one set of info only please.

otherwise we go from this nonsense (where it tells you 4 times no less)....

Understood, but, if you miss that for any reason, it irrevocably disappears after a moment. This solution would prevent that situation.

I've timed it, it stays displayed for around 12 seconds, the entire jump sequence where the circle is visible is around 25 seconds, it vanishes when you start the jump, so it stays displayed for a considerable part of the jump sequence, seriously if you are going to miss that then there's also a good chance you are going to miss it anyway. It is, however, pretty much irrelevant anyway these days with many players using hyperspace de-throttle, you can also often tell what type the star from the spot during the jump.

Personally I prefer the display be as minimal as possible, and once I have seen the star type that's all I need to know. If i forget to look, which doesn't happen often, I can cancel the jump and start again, deduce the star type during hyperspace from the colour of the target, throttle down to play it safe, although even with WD and NS that's not really necessary or even quickly switch to the galaxy map and see what colour the star is.

I'd totally be on board with eliminating one (or more) of the redundant jump destination indicators in favor of putting the star class on the central display when jumping. Especially if it saves having to cancel a jump and re-start it. For me at least it's more useful than having wanted status hanging around for the whole jump.

You don't have to cancel there are other ways to find out, or you could just be prepared for anything.

It costs next to nothing to implement, and it would improve gameplay without harming any existent dynamic.

Do I think the Info panel needs changes, certainly, but I am asking for something less than that that is easily implemented.

Paying attention, absolutely, but what happens when you need to pay attention to the combatant trying to kill you before you high wake, or your heat levels because you initiated the jump too soon?

All of the arguments against implementing this ignore anything except optimal circumstances, and this proposal ignores ideal circumstances for all the other possible situations.

Then why have rear mirrors in cars etc. It is no longer 1984, where most computer games would kill you if you were 1 pixel off.

Car mirrors? Because sometimes you reverse, sometimes conditions behind you change, sometimes you want to do your hair? Fact is once you jump the star type is fixed, once you know what it is seeing it constantly isn't going to change that condition.

Of course, the fallacy to this statement is, I'm asking for this because, sometimes, for perfectly legitimate reasons, you miss that perishable message.

And I don't get what your hangup is about not knowing what kind of star you are jumping to. I don't even filter only for scoopable stars and I still don't much care what the next star type is unless I'm running low on fuel - and a quick visit to the GalMap is the answer there.

So to summarise. Let's make the game as unfriendly to the player as possible. Any suggestion for improvement should be outlawed and the game account suspended. Why not...

I agree with OP, this would be very nice addition, I missed that information few times myself and would like to see it more permanently displayed...

Having run into the exclusion zone of a black hole because I missed the perishable message and, as a result, neglected to zero my throttle, probably has something to do with it.

oh i really like the idea.. espacially because i am thinking about it regulary... sometimes even aborting the jump just to start it again so the log tells me what star it is... this addition to the hud would be so convenient 👍

It is on the hud already I, i really dont get how you dont see this, it sticks around in the upper corner for a while, telling you what class star.

Hell if the system followes the naming convetion you dont even need to see the message on the hud, you can tell just from the same. Like the screen shot above,

SD-Y is your star classification, its a sub dwarf brown star. You literally can just see that from the name in the screen shot.
Yes, not all naming conventions follow that, IE the HIP HIC star Catalog. The problem here is its just a feature that does not need to be in the game.....because its already in the game in multiple ways, if you as a player fail to utilize the very obvious and clear star type indication, thats not a problem with the game.....that's literally a just read your hud.

I just tried it, after selecting target you get 10 seconds for the message in the top right corner right after you initiate the FSD charge up, thats a very long time to simply look at the corner of your screen and read a single letter.
