ANNOUNCEMENT Gamescom Reveals - Fleet Carrier Details

I've suddenly got the same sinking feeling I had when multi-pew came on the scene. That had great potential and...

It's just that if there is a way to screw it up, usually FD will find it. They're really good at that sort of thing.

Need NPC crew on the bridge now; no one person could fly such a behemoth of a ship...in which case, why can't we have NPC crew for the other ships?

Whatever man, I'm using Vipers for storage of whole range small arms and three T-10's for everything else. It is absolutely ridiculous. Instead of enjoying the game and jumping into action straight away we're wasting time doing that shameful module juggling between the donor ship and the recipient ship.

Not grind, not anything else, but storage limit annoys me the most and that is why I gave Elite Dangerous (n) on Steam. I had to. Sorry FD, but with things like that you're ruining not just my game experience but other players too.
I really hope that you double, triple or remove the limit entirely in forthcoming patch. I'd love to give ED (y) on Steam. If you refrain from doing that at least give us a reason why the limit is present and why do we have to buy "storage ships"?
Don't juggle modules build ships for each task, much simpler. More expensive but that is not an issue for many players, (and wouldn't be for me if I mined more or did more missions) nowadays.

  • Schedule jumps from the Galaxy Map when you want and from wherever you are in the galaxy.
It seems that we won't be able to actually ''pilot'' the ships as we do all our ''normal'' ships. It will almost certainly be a case of; ''place the ''Carrier'' on the desired destination in the Galaxy Map'' and probably click a button .....and it will traverse to the nominated Star System as long as it's within the 500 Ly range. ..... and Hey Presto! Your Carrier arrives at your nominated destination where you can access your carried ships... ready to launch etc. etc.... (A game mechanic similar to the current ''Ship Transfer'' but able to interact with said ''Carrier'' at it's start and end points?????)
Who knows what sort/s of interactive ''Carrier Interface Screens'' we will have but pretty certain it won't be a hands-on flight deck unless of course they do actually allow ''normal space'' maneuvering! N.B. We never see Capital Ships moving once they have popped out of their black FSD transit clouds.:censored:

Hey Commanders! Great questions so far. We'll gather some up and keep them pocketed for future discussions and info releases! Keep them coming!
It's true that this topic creates a lot of questions.

We realize that the fleet carrier is more complex because it involves systemic events.

In the interests of realism I think the cost of a carrier should be no more than 80% of whatever my current balance is when they launch. Thanks.

money hasn't meant anything in the game since year 1. There's going to be a massive number of players who can afford whatever cost they make it (assuming there's a massive number of players still playing) and anyone who can't currently afford it will just grind what they need to grind for a couple days to be able to.

Then all the people who have it day 1 will be upset they're not special and complain.

When Fdev tries to balance the ship, they'll find they can't use credits because credits have been infinitely available to anyone for years now , so that leaves making them either borderline impossible to move with crazy grinding for special materials or require a constant supply of credits to fund ... Both things would be a non-issue with an actual multi-human team collecting materials / credits ...but definitely will be a blow to solo players looking to have a mobile home for their ships.

No you won't be able to fly it, executive control only. I was going to say we have our regular ships for flying flying but instead imagine meeting a carrier in a startwiinder?.. Haha .. gank much? A whole array of self defence weaponry on the ship PLUS a wing of 16 coming at you? Back to Tetris I suppose! ;p

All excellent news. But I’d like them to be attackable, even if not completely destructable. This is supposed to be Elite Dangerous — not Elite Improbably Safe!
You would have people literally losing their minds..."(@#(%^% YOU JUST BLEW UP MY ELEVENTY BILLION CREDIT SHIP!!!1!!1!! OMG!!!1!!1! MY REBUY IS 3,000,000,000 BABY UNICORNS!!1!11!

But, it would be nice to see the total melt down...and watch the ship blow up. Which is why I'm not buying one.

It could be a planetside resource to buy in some space stations only.
If its both base game and horizons and the ship can jump to any point in the galaxy (500ly at a time) then it has to be space based fuel. So either rings/asteroids belts or gas giant mining. Yes you will be able to buy from stations but it won't be limited to just that, because it can go outside of the bubble away from space stations.

It's not false.

I'm wondering how carriers will deal with the worst scourge of the galaxy ... Loiterers! Also, will they have no fire zones?

Can we expect complaints from commanders about being shot down or sent to prison by their own carrier?

Out of curiosity, will the jump abilities of the carrier be able to reach new, personally unvisited, locations or is it limited to places you've already visited and know.

And if it's limited will we be able to buy other players data somehow to go new places. I can't imagine how it would work limited though as it would make and exploration carrier pointless almost. Unless there is something weird about the design.

500ly jump will open up a lot of new exploration. I wonder if it's hassle free or if there are any strings attached. Besides potential fuel parameters. Which could also limit things.

LOL
Let me guess. You have 10-20 billion while most players don't.
No I don't, I have about 2.3 Bill is all. I think this amount would give the commander some sort of accomplishment in achieving the goal instead of having Frontier hand the carrier to the players on a silver platter. Cheers
