GeForce Now patching process extremely slow

Completely uninstalled GeforceNOW, rebooted, installed it, rebooted, still no go.

BTW I have never set any Windows 11 Firewall/Defender settings, any advice on whether we need to allow stuff through?
I have a VPN, but also closed that.

Going to raise NVidia ticket.

i think you should hold fire until an epic account holder as answered your question first as it seems you need to establish that before any geforce now inquirys which also seem to be having issues the fact that its a third party app using another third party app to then accses fd servers is just confounding any real problem you may have and the process of eliminating what it is not is key to narrowing down where your current issue lies as this is a gfn thread starting an epic account holder thread may help in that process..............

Yep.

I just hope I get it working, as I have never had any problems before.
Also, I have only got the Free Epic giveaway a/c, but didn't use it until I transferred PS Console CMDR to PC - so I have never had a Frontier direct account to try and logon through Frontier :( - always used EPIC through GeForceNOW.

<twiddling thumbs and hoping>
(hoping it's not a 'forced' microsoft security update - never had Win11 before Sept '23, so I could always opt out of updates I did not agree with/like)

dont think its a windows sec update temp disabling win def should answer that mind you
  1. Select Start and type "Windows Security" to search for that app.
  2. Select the Windows Security app from the search results, go to Virus & threat protection, and under Virus & threat protection settings select Manage settings.
  3. Switch Real-time protection to Off.
  4. dont forget to switch it back on

I suspect all we can really do is chase Nvidia. I don't know exactly how they are managing things, but it seems that when you press Play in the main interface your virtual machine on the Nvidia platform gets created, and for Epic it's still picking up the 18.0 game client from wherever Nvidia keep these things. The game client does what it does (checking if its version matches the Frontier server version) and gives you an Update button rather than Play. And we've established that just pressing Update doesn't allow the game to run either. From their website:

>> When a developer releases a new version of a game, work is done on the backend of GeForce NOW to download that patch, replicate each bit to all of our storage systems, test for the proper security features, and finally copy it back onto all of our data centers worldwide, becoming available for gamers.

Hi,

I used my EPIC/Elite Odyssey account this morning (before 12:00 GMT) - no problems at all. I don't use GeForce Now, so I'm using "bare" Epic library launcher. My other accounts are Direct to Frontier (not via Steam) and tah was OK as well.

HTH

IOW: We're going to take our sweet time, and we have plenty of excuses for why.

All you can do is wait, they'll get it done when it suits them. I doubt Steam, Epic, or Nvidia have much interest in prioritizing our insignificant little galaxy. There's more money to be made elsewhere.

I raised a support ticket, got a reply for more information required, but now, on selecting ED in GeforceNOW it correctly says "We are currently patching the game. Please try again in a few hours". This usually happened a few hours after each Update released, not 5 days after!

Must be true then. Much much bigger games and releases/updates than little old ED :(

The ED Steam client gets updated quickly by Nvidia... the tickets I've raised always end up saying the issue has been resolved by a "forced update" for Epic, there must be some automated trigger they've set up which fires for Steam but not Epic. On some previous tickets I've had their support team saying there's no updates available for Epic according to whatever system they're looking at, I had to send them screenshots and repeat the request...

Anyhoo, just saw the same patching message on Epic, fingers crossed.

The way I see it, the following happens on patch day:

1> Patch is released to Frontier servers, and to Steam and Epic.
2> Steam and Epic make changes to suit their platforms.
3> Steam and Epic release to their servers, and to Nvidia.
4> Nvidia makes changes to each, to suit their platform.
5> Nvidia releases each to their servers.

I'm getting tired of dealing with Steam issues, so GFN would definitely be a NO for me. Too many cooks spoil the broth....

After reading this thread, I've decided to disconnect my third account from Steam. I'm just waiting on support to reply to my request.

@Fixitman i am puzzled disconnect your third account from steam surely unlinking would do that
from whom is your third account originally purchased from and when was it purchased?
if purchsed from steam after april 2019 you have to use steam if purchsed or aquired freely though epic you have to use epic afaiaa
i am a frontier development purchaser and i never play on patch day its not worth the disco agro imo dl yea but play nooooooooooo
the amazon final servers are pretty pants on good days imo lol if new ships or internal walkies or thagoid ground forces was released then i may try fa a bit

I purchased the third account on sale from Steam in 2019 (I had only played on PS4 before that). I had issues with Steam back then, so I unlinked Steam, bought the game direct from Frontier, and started a new commander with that Frontier account (now my primary commander). I've since started a second Frontier account for my PS4 transfer, then a third Account for my "new" Steam commander.

I'm hoping support can let me continue playing my third commander without Steam, if I buy ED and Odyssey from them directly.

Edit:
Process complete, and it was extremely easy. I'm now playing all 3 of my commanders from one install, and Steam is no longer involved. Now all three commanders share the same graphics. AA was definitely different with the Steam install.

Just got back from pub - IN, unfortunately working tomorrow until Sat now, so I wont get much chance for Titan unless Leigong lasts until next week.

Side Note - Must only be a few of us left on Epic as they really shouldn't have left it for 5 days without a 'Forced Update' eh?

When I bought my Epic account in December it was a couple of days after a patch, so my first experience of trying the game on that client was "Update". I worked out how to raise a ticket etc. and a day or two later it got updated and became playable, but I was used to Steam and did find it unsettling that Epic had been left unpatched for so long - surely people would have complained? It happened each time there was a patch (having to raise a ticket and chase, with varying fix times - sometimes Nvidia are pretty good). I genuinely wondered if I was the only one using the Epic client for ED on GeforceNow, so this thread has provided a little comfort in that respect. There are some other souls out there raising tickets and nagging too :)

Fingers crossed that 18.02 gets applied faster than 18.01 was...

Still waiting to play - does all the updates and synching, and gets to 100% etc and then PLAY button is there, click it and CANNOT CONNECT TO EU WEST! Doh....

Guess I'll be watching Fallout series - releasing early tomorrow morning UK time (9PM ET)
