General Criticism Thread

If we're able to place down and rotate buildings and fences, what's stopping us putting down trees and rocks? No ones asking for PC level of customisation. But I think that not having ANY in terms of enclosure design is a big design flaw.

I agree with everything you said. The positives is that Frontier love what they're doing and they seem receptive to alterations and obviously putting out more content later on.

At this point the ideal scenario is that despite heavy pressure to release alongside the movie, Frontier realize that we want more customization and content and are planning on releasing updates/DLC to address our concerns after Universal has stopped looking over them.

Alternatively, and a much more worse case scenario, is that Frontier haven't realized anything we've said so far in these threads is what should be in the game. Let's hope not. :-(

It is obvious that Frontier don't want this to be seen as just a remake of JPOG, but the lack of customization present and the mechanics and making it feel like just that. Don't get me wrong, I'm trying to think that the glass is half full because who wouldn't want a remade JPOG?! . I mean, I for one never thought that any studio would consider making a new Jurassic Park sim game, so we are all absolutely thrilled that one is being made. However, that doesn't mean we as the consumer don't have the right to bring up our concerns.

My only concerns right now are:

- Multiple island progression. In Jpog i kinda got attached to various areas of of my parks over time, not sure how that is going to work if im consciously skipping between islands. How relevant will past islands be? If they won't be, i think it will be a waste. If they will be, it might be crazy to constantly be switching between them.

- jpog had a certain atmosphere of wilderness that it completely nailed. The combination of the lighting, really clean pathing and grass in JWE doesn't seem to capture it at all. When there was rain in jpog, you could feel that it was raining in your park. In the official demo, that effect just wasnt there. Maybe because the lighting never changed and was of that particular color.

Regarding customization, im pretty sure frontier will be selling various things based on how it goes. Elite dangerous and planet coaster all are microtransaction heavy, though definitely in the accepted means.

With all this concern about the guests after the gameplay reveal it had me thinking back to BestInSlots Galli video where he showed the guests in the background. Now this was in game footage I believe. The guests looked a lot better in the Galli video then they did in the gameplay reveal. I wonder what happened? It is true that the gameplay we saw recently was from an older build of the game? But then wouldn't Frontier want the game to look the best for the big reveal? I know I would. Why would you show the public a older build of a game that lacks polish? It makes no sense to me.

Anyway here is the video. he points out the guests at the 2:30 mark. You can even see what looks like kids as well. It was a lot better than the hordes of clones we saw in the gameplay reveal.

Am I the one who has got nothing to say in criticism way? I mean...As a experienced JPOG player, I was waiting to get game like this for a long time. I know that there were lot of bugs/weaknesses in gameplay videos but still...I read a lot of your comments and I need to say that they refer to some kind of trivial things (not all but most). Of course, it is one of the best ways to inform studio what should they do with their product in future. But again, we have over 2 months to release, so not small amount of time, right? I gave credit of trust and the only thing I want to say is...Surprise me, Frontier.

I think it's entirely possibly it was an earlier build of the game than they currently have, because of several possible reasons:
-There was some wonky animation flickering and clipping in the gameplay that wasn't seen before, but then again most of those teaser trailers were pretty short
-Perhaps the full build of the current version of the game gave away too much, for example maybe it showed all the dinosaur portraits and they didn't want to give everything away yet
-The current build has a different tutorial that isn't as intuitive or again, gives something away plot wise that was added in later since apparently there is going to be a more involved, over-arching story
-Despite the gameplay we didn't even get to see the results of going down one of the 3 trees, we don't even know what they unlock and I highly doubt the extent of security measures is helicopter tranquilizer guns and shelters for visitors, if 6+ raptors broke out in JPOG you'd need them dead immediately if you couldn't shelter your residents
-Eating the goat didn't even have an animation for the ceratosaurus, it just disappears in its mouth, surely 3 months away I believe this would be done by now as I think dinosaur interaction is a huge part of the game but I don't know anything about game development
-Don't quote me on this but I think someone had said blood was confirmed, and it wasn't even present
-I didn't see a building where you could build the Gyrospheres which were confirmed a long time ago, but maybe it's locked until later

With all that being said it may end up being rushed, but I kind of doubt it, they may have had it in development awhile before they announced it

So far my only complaints not related to what I think deals aren't bugs or an early build:
No day night cycles
Some sort lethal option wasn't immediately available, but maybe they expand things on the 2nd island, or maybe the tutorial itself is an early build too
Dinosaurs interacting with each other seems pretty limited, but we didn't get much in the way of seeing groups of them

People want the game to be the best it can be. It looks good. But need some minor things fixed, changed or explained. I pre-ordered the game, I bought the deluxe edition for $60. I too have been waiting for a game like this for over a decade. Even longer if you count the lack of good modern JP games. I want the game to be perfect or damned near perfect. I am sure Frontier can see the outcry about things like the lack of blood and gore in kills, Dinosaur animation issues, lack of day and night cycle. It's up to them to fix the issues and listen to what fans say.

Yes, yes...and, yes. I totally agree. Maybe it's only me but comments about for example guest looking on that early stage are annoying, haha! ;)

It was probably an older build because it was likely a stable build which is far from uncommon. As much as you want the game to look its best, you also dont want to have one that has issues, imagine the reports on that "JW:E was shaping up to be great game until I saw a Galli, glide across the field on its tail. Meanwhile the gates refused to open meaning I couldnt even complete the first mission, 3/10 Goldblooms for the Galli entertainment" - not exactly ideal haha. Nonetheless, we saw what people wanted to see, how the park building works, what the dinos look like and how it generally plays out. The dinos looked great, general graphics are great too and we have a good idea of how it plays out. Its clear in the video you linked that the guests looked alot different to the gameplay as such its likely those videos are coming from the latest build e.g 2.0 whilst everyone got to play 1.9. Granted thats speculation, but it is logical

-Lack of terraforming options
-lack of space
-lack of IA développement
-lack of animations
- lack of JURASSIC PARK GATE !
-lack of buildings
-lack of optimazation and personnalization
-more space we need the whole island not a restricted area. !!!! We need customization and if we are allow to construct as we want and creat our own Park it’s start from the looking of the island ! I like to going on the cinquo muertes à lot ! But we need space and personal changes

I'm not gonna list all my criticisms because everyone here has more or less explained every disappointment I have so far. I want to ask, what are the chances that Frontier actually look at this thread and make changes to the features we're concerned about? To me, it seems like nobody is happy with the fact that there isn't a day/night cycle, so it'd be kinda disappointing if they didn't change that before release. I've been so excited for this game and still am, but there have been some really bizarre decisions by the devs that ruin immersion.

I was hoping we could build anywhere on the island, but it looks like they've added big limitations. Can we not build on the beach? The game severely needs more decorations (perhaps we just haven't seen this yet).

Well my hope is that the more the community cries out for changes, the more likely they are gonna listen.

I don't think this thread in particular will change anything but it's a nice way to collect ideas for improvement so that one can adress it also in future threads.

Going by Planetcoaster the dev are supporting their games longterm with updates and since this here is their official forums, what place could be better to pitch them ideas (that might even get realized in future DLC perhaps)

So how exactly are we gonna expect them to do anything if they don't read this thread? Would be nice if they did read these threads though

I doubt the day/night cycle will be removed because in a recent Eurogamer interview with Jurassic World Evolution's lead writer, each of the islands take place in a different part of the Jurassic Park universe's timeline.

e.g. The park on Isla Matanceros takes place a few years after the Indominus Incident, and is relaunching Jurassic World as a viable business that is safe and enjoyable for visitors.

From my understanding, developers are often working on multiple builds at a single point in time. It's highly possible that the current builds would look less presentable or have more bugs to it, so they went with an older, more stable build that was playable.

In the world of game development, you can do something as simple as change the color of the HUD, and suddenly a dinosaur stops working entirely.

I really think my views would be different if I had not watched the teaser they did way back. The environment and the Trex blew my mind. The way it broke out and went after the workers and the Parasauralophus was amazing. I know it wasn’t in game footage but I had those images in my mind. So when I saw the demo they did I was kinda like , where is everything I saw earlier. I guess I just had too high of expectations. I’m still going to pre order because I haven’t seen anything like this since JPOG and I’m a dinosaur nut. A Dino and sim fan will love this game but not sure how others will take it. Anyway can’t wait until June and if it fails there is always the next 10 or so years lol.

sandbox has been heavily implied. Having said that, size restrictions just offer you challenge. We know that Sorna at least is around the size of the biggest available in PC, Nublar I imagine isn't far behind. Tacano and Pena both seem smaller than Matanceras but I imagine there's a good reason linked to the story/ And who's to say the story even requires a park on those two islands? yeah they have 5 star ratings but it might be judged differently, maybe it focuses on the hybrid project (I believe that was suggested as being locked until island 3) and breeding in general

Having said that from what I've seen and judging on the size of the buildings, Matanceras doesn't actually look that small. Clearing trees means you could easily fit the innovation centre, a number of shops etc and a power station for them over by the monorail. And that starting exhibit is massive, we've already seen there's ample space for 3 to 4 herbivore species in there with around 3-5 dinos per species. Truth be told, it's only really the carnivores you want separate exhibits for so while you won't get all 40 dinos on that island (unless you're cruel and have them lined up like battery hens) you'll get more than enough dinos in there to satisfy that 5 star rating
