For the OP: you can find a list of CNBs here:

Or hunt in a wing.
Best find a system with a CNB, you'll find lots of deadly + elite ship at those, which is what you need to kill.
The Elite wiki list's the points per kill which you will find helpful

Bear in mind being in a wing splits your XP the same way having a crew does.

In the case of combat theres nothing wrong with the design. You hired them to help at combat, there helping at combat. They take a cut.
Nope, that's wrong. I shouldn't be penalized - that is, actively discouraged - for playing with a crew and/or wing, whether made of NPCs or players or both. Paying crewmembers a fair wage is one thing, having them steal full percentage of ALL profits and half (or more) of my XP gains is nothing short of highway robbery.
Also combat rank is probably the least important imo, doesnt tell you much about a CMDR other than he may have spent hours on end farming NPC's
Even if you do nothing but shoot fish in a barrel, after a certain extent of time you're going to be quite familiarized with your gun, the constructive properties of barrels, and the qualities of fish as targets (and in dealing with the remains of the latter two).

Your fighting together, you share the spoils.
That's not right, though. Find me an active game in 2018 that punishes players for doing multiplayer things like having a crew or being in a wing by splitting (that is, reducing) their gains like Elite's been doing
without telling anybody since the introduction of SLFs and wings.
(Hint: the vast majority of games give you MORE xp and credits, not less - not that that is what I'm asking for....)
I dont see the issue. Crew also need to level and thats why your paying XP. Thats the price for levelling them.
If you can't see the issue with losing XP - that is, being actively
punished for daring to participate in crew/wing activities - then I'm not sure there's any helping your point of view.
What is it you want combat rank for?
Because it's one of the few goalposts in the game to try reaching. Status, power, prestige, "because it's there", call it what you like. Being dismissive of a desire to reach that goal doesn't make a good excuse for defending something that directly impedes doing so, if you so much as touch multicrew/wing stuff.
