I drive zero of the cars the guys from Top Gear talked about. Still watched it. Anyway, he didn't say none of them, he said not all of them. But being disingenuous is cool too.
if i had a promotion strategy for tube media i called "supporting youtubers" i would probably extend it to some who constantly criticizes my product if he is significant. if anything because i would feel forced to, since not doing so would come across as weak and insecure, maybe for a reason.
now someone should calmly explain to me, with pictures if necessary, how we go from satire and criticism to insults and attacks, because there are some impressive mental acrobatics on display here.
Well, that's assuming that those people all regularly watch his videos. I'm subscribed to a whole bunch of people whose videos I rarely if ever watch, purely through laziness. Many of them will also be lapsed or ex-players, or those who used to follow him from his PlanetSide days. Some of them may just enjoy his witty repertoire!
There's also plenty of people who hang around on these forums who clearly hate ED, haven't played it in years and have no faith in it ever getting better. Which is a bit weird and obsessive, but that's the internet for ya!
If you are not sure if "you are stupid" is an insult I have a cool life hack for you. Before you type something, picture you saying it to a random person in a bar. If they are likely to punch you in the face, it probably is an insult.
Again, not saying he should be imprisoned for it but common sense dictates that if you want to beg for free stuff you might want to, I dunno, not be a dingleberry to them for years on end. Just a thought.

again, context is not the same. this is a company handing out press kits and being picky how about who gets it, which is just not serious. how did they even get down this rabbit hole? i gather that's why, once leaked, it has to be supported with such outlandish claims. well, they don't float.

I think Yamiks will benefit. I think FDev just lost some reputation points for the initial response, and quite possibly with the decision to exclude him, have broken whatever filter he'd heretofore been applying to his criticism and comments, however porous. I don't think it will matter too much though, as the fact remains his channel is a marketing tool for Elite Dangerous, as even negative coverage is good coverage, and not all his content is negative. However, the decision to exclude him in terms of support is probably going to result in a greater degree of content they don't find favourable, and even other content creators have expressed criticism of this move by Frontier.
Ultimately, I don't think the net effect is going to be drastically impactful, but it was still a really poor way to handle it.
They don't float for you. But, no offense, given you recently said your sole reason for being here is 'laughing at FD's ineptitude' I hope you forgive me for suspecting some bias.
Personally I believe more in Occam's razor. Rather than some conspiracy theory about drummed-up accusations from a PR department run amok I suspect the truth is more mundane: a bunch of people prefer not to engage with someone who insults them.
Also, if a 'code monkey' is a "public figure' than half the workforce is. It's rather weak to just pretend random 9/5 workers for a large corp are 'public figures' as if that excuses juvenile insults.
I feel that if you could just step over your dislike of FD for a minute you wouldn't be defending his behaviour as haphazardly as this.

he could stop promoting elite, at least from his channel. good old boycott, this would result in some discrete but unknown loss of sales that however would be saluted by a vocal minority (and frontier) as a bargain for the greater good and peace of mind and the stiff upper lip and all that!
or he could just go on trolling like there's no tomorrow. which would be fun. the reality is that the landscape is richer with a yamiks than without, but of course we will not go into war because of that.
and he could also go full nucular and write an open letter. let's all just hope that things don't get pushed that far ...
On Reddit there are people explaining how they watched his vids as SC fans and how he kept them from trying ED for months. I saw none that said watching him craptalk the game over and over encouraged them to buy the game.
Beyond the fact that virtually 100% of his youtube income comes from ED and he has next to nothing to jump to as of yet, there is also nothing that suggests there would be a loss of sales at all.
And I am politely ignoring you said earlier you didn't expect this to have any actual effect on sales at all, anyway. Sincerity doesn't get a topic to 100+ pages.
He will go on trolling. A small group of people will keep watching. None of it will matter. People with an axe to grind will try to turn it into something more.
Next week we'll learn some variable in EDO is very big, or very small, and we'll forget about Yamik and get upset about that instead.

i agree. a scenario of an individual person to just decide that unilaterally and then having trouble justifying it, or passing the ball to an unsuspecting third in disgrace would be plausible. mistakes are made all the time.
a code monkey that puts on a white coat and gives a speech is a public figure. then again "frontier are you stupid" isn't addressing any code monkey in particular. these nuances are why i am asking for examples for these attacks because the mere presence of strong language does not qualify them as insult, hate or threat. because from all the yamiks footage i've (sparsely) watched in years i do not really remember any instance of outright insults or crossing the line. so i might be biased, but if it is so prevalent and so common you might aswell present just a snippet to ... actually back your claims.

My personal take on all this is : "Now I know why I play games for myself and not watch some rando on the internet do it for me".
I buy and review games all the time, but I do it for myself and don't publish it to the world. Not every game I own has recieved a positive review from me (ED did, hence why I still play).

It's not a *subjective and delicate matter" it is either you not knowing what everyone else is talking about or pretending not to. Neither really interests me, as discussing a hypothetically politer Yamik is not really my thing. If you want to believe everyone else in this discussion, both pro and contra Yamik, are making his insults up than that is your perogative.that's really not my problem. you'll sort it out. if in doubt, trust no one! ;-)

You could try watching some of his YT stuff yourself, I assume it is in there somewhere (I don't know for sure because I don't watch influencer stuff, theirs or any other).

that's the thing, i've seen at least a dozen videos and still don't know what they're talking about. i've seen vulgarity, and sarcasm, and maybe strong words. but not really something that would upset someone clearly to such levels! if it is so evident it should be easy to at least point me to a specific video.
oh well ... i'm not loosing any sleep on it either.
