Goodbye Elite Dangerous

With thousands of hours invested.

A merge from PC to console years ago. A wonderful dquadron. Friendships formed and bonded. Over 1200 pvp kills, over 25 billion credits earned. Maxed out all materials, over 20 individually min/maxed ship builds, not a single thing I havnt done in this game. To support the game i also own every single cosmetic in the game on console. It saddens me to say this but I officially, and with great resentment, hang my tags.

Frontier, you held the market for so long with this niche game. But your poor decisions and bizzare focus and failure to listen to a large portion of the community created a drop off in player base..we still had the game in high hopes on the back burner waiting for your update on odyssey for console. But because of your delay, people began losing interest. And then you slap us in the face with an ultimatum. All development is to end on console. I know you came to this decision because you saw the drop in activity....the drop that you created. I love your game, i love what you've done. Please take this as a learning moment. I am sorry to say, I wont be the last to leave a dying game. This could have been prevented with integrity and open and punctual communication but there was none. We played on and played your guessing game. But it dragged on to long.

I wish you well frontier, i hope maybe you release a new version of ED some day. But as it stands, the game is dead to me and many others share the same sentiment. It isnt just about Odyssey, arguably, we could do fine without it, we have for years. What we cant deal with though, is being abandoned.

I think it would be very generous of Frontier to offer some bit of compensation for those so affected, to include a complementary copy of the game for PC, as well as any ARX assets associated with the console account.

Frontier, you have an API which can forward a PC/console player's status to third party sites.

With minimal coding effort, why not use the API to import a console player's current status onto a PC's account?

Possibly with a "second commander" account on the base game.

Frontier, if you think hard about this, you developed and own the API. It has the benefit of solving platform asset transfers.

That would, indeed, be very generous - too generous, in fact. I think a full refund on what they paid for Odyssey is more than fair ;)

Yes, we are, afterall, speaking of the hard earned cash folks paid in good faith for a platform specific game which is no longer being supported. As well, for those without PC's for which some compensation is fully due.

Horizons is still being supported on consoles - what are you on about?

No new content, that means game is over for veterans because most of us (I've even bought my XB1 when Elite was announced for the purpose of playing the game) have achieved almost everything... the situation is even worse for who's running squadrons, factions or powerplay stuff and play exclusively in open. Hard to keep your fellow wingmates committed to a dying game, very likely no new recruits joining, no PvP around, no wars or fun at CGs, no random encounters with other players etc. etc. so the feeling of wasting more time on top of what everyone here did already spend isn't a properly giving good vibes.

I agree... a full transfer from console to PC would be the least they could do. Ranks and everything, not just assets.

Frontier's API does exactly that, but delivering the data to a third party app or website.

It would not take that much coding effort to use it do a cross platform transfer of all assets to a PC version of EDH/O, provided an update allows for a "second commander" account on the main menu. The Frontier API could be made to "import" the commander data. Right now, the Frontier API only "exports" this data.

Certainly, FDEV could make use of their own API to bring the commander data back into the game, as a second commander account.

Excellent idea. I wonder if they've considered it?

If Frontier, via the API, can upload full commander data to a third party app, like VoiceAttack, EDDI, or a website, like Inara or EDSM, they can certainly reverse the process to "import" that commander data. FDev now owns the tools and a suggested process to do it. All that remains is a commitment to DO IT.

Quite frankly i'm disgusted at the way this whole sorry mess has been handled. Not what I expected from a professional British developer who previously made a commitment to being more open and honest with their customers.

What they should have said was they would be open and honest with selected customers.

and that's the question. Are they willing to do that?

It's not like they will lose anything by giving console players a PC account. They can actually use that as positive PR.

A dead game and the arx spent. Had people known they were to pull the plug without so much as an explanation they wouldn't have paid a penny to Frontier.
So every time a live game gets it's support dropped all the users should get all their money back?

And the explanation is here "We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase."
