Graphics are getting worse

Yup, all the complaints about the Witcher 3 are simply the result of CD projekt not being able to deliver what they wanted to deliver for all the platforms. Its as simple as that.

Thrown into this is one "mystery" source in CD projekt who claims the PC version was "nerfed because of consoles." This isn't a compelling body of evidence, but its enough for conspiracy theorists.

the reason there isnt more info on the web is because microsoft have had it removed....

lol

1984 is becoming real

Totally.

After all there is a difference between building a game from scratch so that it has graphical parity on all platforms, and nerfing graphics on a high end platform so they match the lower end platform.

The end result might be the same; i.e. the graphics look the same on all platforms despite one platform being significantly more powerful. The difference is in how the studio got the end result.

So yeah you are right, the road there is different, but the result is the same.

My intention late summer is to spend around £1000-1500 on a new rig to run ED. Maybe wait for the price of a Fury Pro or Nano. Maybe wait for a Skylake 'K'. VR headset in Q1.

What with this and no sign of a fix for stuttering, maybe I shouldn't bother wasting my money.

However, the reporting shows that CD projekt overpromised for all platforms. They couldn't deliver what they wanted to achieve for the PC, let alone anything else. While the PC is not their biggest market, they still want the game to sell to as many PC users as possible, whilst still looking good. Having a game that will only run on bleeding edge PCs, alienates a sizeable portion of their userbase on that platform.

This is about CD project trying to reach as many people on all platforms as possible. The reason the PC version was changed, was to sell more copies of the PC version. That's all there is to it.

If the PC version was going to run looking as good as CD project originally promised, there would be no need for them to change it if they were going to reach their target audience on the PC. It wouldn't make any sense to change it because of the consoles, because the console owning market does not care how good the PC version looks. They only care how good it looks on the console.

The only people who make an issue out of the PC version looking better are some PC owners, out of some deeply misplaced sense of superiority.

Depends what you're running now. My overclocked i5 (Ivy) and GTX970 (or 780Ti which is on RMA) is fine for 3440x1440 gaming and should be for a good while yet.

My point was that PC games in general have the potential to look better than console games, assuming the game is targeting the highest spec PC. That's all. :) And there is very little reason for any developer to actually go out and do that.

Well in the end the whole console argument has derailed this thread - just as I implied it would do in the 2nd post of this thread.

This is the issue at hand, what we want to know is if this will be "fixed", or if things are staying this way:

Given the differences between those two screenshots, I'm honestly at a loss as to say which one looks "better."

If you removed the text from each pic and asked me to choose which one looked better, I'd struggle.

*edit*

Which isn't to say that they aren't issues with the graphics, I recognise that, just that these two images are not a great illustration of the problem.

(There is a world of difference in VR)

But let's put it another way then.

Where has the dust gone? And is this a deliberate change?

We're pretty darn spoiled aren't we.

I bought this game roughly a month ago and can report from my personal experience, there were absolutely no framedrops or stutters ever and planetary rings were absolutely stunning. I remember specifically the very first time I came too close to a ring. I have always been afraid to "crash" into it and one time I pulled away just in time to fly alongside it and I was almost shocked by the beautiful transition into actual asteroids and the amount of detail. That is gone now. Entirely. You can even see the disgustingly low resolution blurr, which is supposed to be the ring, until the very moment you get forced out of super cruise.
Additionally the stuttering has become so bad within stations, it's literally giving me headaches while using Trackir and has reduced my playing time a lot recently.

They haven't improved anything, they haven't fixed anything. They basically just broke things that always worked, as far as I'm concerned.
For the record, since I got this game I have not changed a SINGLE setting in my software, not changed any drivers, not changed, added, removed any hardware whatsoever. Even the ingame settings were setup on my very first launch and never altered again. This is some proper right there.

Where has the dust gone?

Has it gone, or is it just less visible because of the angle of the belt and the position of the sun.

And is this a deliberate change?

I'll have to wait until I can get onto my machine to verify whether the dust has disappeared or not or whether it is simply because these two screenshots do not give an accurate representation of the problem.

It would behove people to remember that the xbox one is somewhat more capable than many of the PCs running E : D...

...and that there are already a range of graphics settings to cope with different hardware capabilities.

So while I'm not saying nothing's changed, it would seem odd that the top-end PC experience would be altered to allow for xbox, when
a) The xbox could use a different set of graphics settings, and
b) Anything that can't be covered by graphics settings is already OK on older PCs that have less power than the xbox.

Know the POWER of platform parity.

It's that wonderful joy-joy so all gamers can jump up and down in the happy glee that no-one is pushing higher density textures, or such other obscenities.

This is an equal world! and a loving one.

It matters not that PC gamers might spend quadruple the budget on their gaming machine, oh no. How dare they, in fact!

These are the wise words of major gaming companies of late. Praise them. Yea.

Praise the mighty Ubisoft; the merciful and gloriously generous gods, for making the world a happier place for all of their children.

No-one shall be left behind in this new world order.

While I'm sure your observation is valid. A month is hardly a significant enough span of time to consider as a measurable account of the progress of things. Stutter used to be a massive issue, like jacking up your SC approach bad. That was after initial release before 1.1.

I remember early on in PB asteroids would cast shadows on each other - that looked splendid. But I suppose I'm not surprised that was removed for optimisation reasons.

This, I miss this soo damn much.

I had watched videos of the PB in asteroids and that is honestly what pushed me to become a beta backer. Was sad to see them go, but was then happy that my junk rig back then could finally allow me to go into rings.

I notice that no one from FDev has commented to state that the graphics haven't been intentionally downgraded. Could this silence be telling?

I for one haven't noticed that the graphics are worse than they were before but then I recently bought a massively better gaming rig and a higher res monitor so for me the graphics have got significantly better.

Yeah, the fields were dense but the asteroids flickered somewhat and the game used to have intermittent pauses.

Almost exactly one year ago

Hmm... so they couldn't simply put in an option for 'ring object shadows' and a helpful little on/off box.

Hmm, what does that say about FBI involvement in 9/11....why don't they SPEAK UP!

c'mon, really?

I started this thread because the graphics representing the neutron fields on the map are so different....

Here's what it used to look like:
Neutron stars as far as the eye can see!

Here's what it looks like now:
I can only see neutron stars with 26 light years of my current position!
