Engineers Guide: Fast way to find Occupied Escape Pods near Colonia

Found it last night. DId have to probe the planet A1 and the rings, fly around a bit, but eventually, the distress beacon appeared in the nav panel.
Will add that some escape pods seem to get stuck inside the station when released, which can cause your limpets to crash and fail when trying to retrieve them. Not sure how many time s you can scan and hatch break the escape hatch, always left to clear the stuck pods before the hatch stopped spitting them out.
Had to jump out and back 3 times to get my fill, but still way quicker than any other method.

Didn't ask what he does with them, just got my lightweight life support and left, but the place smelled heavily of lube.

That is all mentioned in the guide. I am glad you got the necessary pods :) .

I am trying this, there is a distress call near the ring at A1, but whenever I drop in, it is empty, trying another distress call 800 ls away

it has hackable cargo and comms arrays and hatches, but even after data link scanning the hatch breakers dont work, what is going on, is it all bugged

Data link scan the hatch/cargo bay, then use subsystem targeting to target the limpet attachment point, then fire the hatchbreaker. It's a bit fiddly.

(Then run away, because they don't like you doing that at the Comms Installation, and it won't get you any occupied escape pods - the Distress Call has "public" cargo bays and escape hatches, so salvage is legal there)

A manifest scanner utility isn't required, but will let you see what's in the cargo bay before you hack it, which may save you from breaking in for a load of junk.

Make sure you get the Distress Call, with the cross-and-circle navigation icon, not any Unidentified Signal Source Distress Calls.

If you can't find it, bug report it - it shows up absolutely fine for me.

This looks to have been patched. Fu Fdev. Can anyone confirm?
I've been able to see it consistently. I haven't been to Luchtaine since the weekend, but I doubt it's suddenly disappeared now.

Check your navigation panel filters, probe the planet and its rings (I can see it without needing to probe, but others have reported it helps).

If that doesn't work, head to one of the Unauthorised Installations (the two in Kojeara are most convenient) and rob them for escape pods instead (I think it's Cargo Bay 1 that has the escape pods). There'll be a bit of combat required to keep pirates and the installation defences off you, but it's manageable and also a guaranteed source of lots of escape pods.

If you're on PC and at UK-convenient times, send me a friend request and I can try winging you in to the instance if you still can't see it.

EDIT: confirmed 14 March 18:00 - the distress call is still there.

Just collected lots of pods from not only the escape hatch #3, but also from cargo hatches.

Sounds good [up].

Huge thanks for this guide.

Strangely, I haven't seen a single ship inside the distress call while I've milked it for escape pods (that was about 10 mins before this post). I had to relog once (too many pods ended up inside the ship) - still no NPCs after relog.

BTW, I could see the distress call right away, without surface scan (I've scanned the whole system with FSS).

I've been having issues scanning the wreck to reveal the escape hatch. I target the ship, and activate the data scanner, but nothing happens. Am I doing it wrong?

You can data scan the ship itself from several kilometres away, but the subtargets are only detectable once you've done this fairly close up.
