The only thing I remember from the KS that was promised that did not happen was offline mode that was "dealt" with and refunds were made based on it. There was a whole set of things alluded to as things FD wished to do. Maybe promised and wished are the same things, I confess I thought they were very different words. We were also told the plan was a ten year development cycle so that would take us to 2022 as a minimum, but again plans change, but if we are having a major release this year, that leaves room for another in two years.

I have to confess though that I have been disappointed in the development choices since the first release of horizon's. I don't think anything that has been added in that period has been of much interest to me or IMHO done in the manner that I would have anticipated, most feel incomplete. My feeling is that the developments were crimped by being squeezed into the development time available. Hopefully New Era being done over a two year span will avoid that.

That said the core of the game as it stood at the point when the first release of Horizons was done is great. That is the game play I enjoy and play, still after four years.

nope no nope no no. incorrect.
Do you not remember when a certain David Braben said:

“The future for Elite Dangerous is very exciting, including a whole raft of incredible features, yes including 'space legs' but so many more things too.”

Or:

“I’ve said over a long time I'm very excited about some features that we will do down the road including things like landing on planets, walking around inside your spaceship, getting out of your spaceship, all of those things I think are very very exciting and obviously those are in the long-term roadmap.“

Or:

“There was a lot of discussion prior to and during the Kickstarter project as to whether you should be able to walk around in your ship. We looked at that in great detail. Ultimately we decided the arbiter has to be, ‘Does it make the game more fun?’ Because it’s a lot of extra work and it brings in more constraints. It’s something we will do, but it’ll be in a future update because we need so many things on a human scale for that to be additive and enjoyable.”

Or the Kickstarter info that says:

"You will be able to walk around the spaceport, you will be able to see gold being loaded into someone else's ship, you will be able to sneak in and hide in amongst the cargo.“

Or the various dev videos where they say it’s something they’re going to do?

I do.

Or is this one of those “but they didn’t actually use the word promise” type of things?

Its one of those “but they didn’t actually use the word promise” type of things.

You'd be surprised how well verbiage holds up in court

So far the counter to 'were we lied to?' seems to be 'no we were conned' which isn't very encouraging.

Very much looking forward to finding out what FDev have to say rather than making assumptions.

its just pie in the sky and cloud talk, non of it is a promise so why people are feeling so entitled about it is bonkers, everything you quoted is "future" tense the future is a moving feast with no timescale. soon™

if he specifically said we would have space legs by the 24th of Jan 2020 you would have a point.

Moreover, keep in mind that Elite barely generates any revenue, so if they want to keep people working on the game, they basically need to have secondary income sources. It's not that other space game we're talking about, they do not have infinite budget.

This is the point - they do not generate much revenue out of Elite because they decided to no longer pursue the annual paid season concept. It's very much their choice, isn't it. They had everything laid out in front of them, their customer base was expecting to see annual seasons which would cost roughly around 30-50% of what a new game would cost them. And I bet many of us were prepared to pay such toll provided of course FDev would provide meaningful andditions to the game through such seasons. They started well with the Beyond season, and then went missing.

So...
Its one of those “but they didn’t actually use the word promise” type of things.
...thought so.

If the leak is true, then space legs is on its way this year.... possibly, maybe.
Feel like any form of ' leak' like these are a Schrodinger's cat type of thing. They are both completely true and a complete lie until it's finally either one or the other. I find it a lot easier to digest as a complete lie until proven otherwise. that way we're not all really butt hurt whenever it turns out it was a complete lie or extremely happy when it turns out to be true
