ANNOUNCEMENT Hello World! Issues with the new forum? Please post here.

So my sig image is now text and I'm not seeing how I fix that, what the hell am I missing?

Select the linked file or upload a file and then upload.
Then look for the insert image button on the right there to stuff the uploaded/linked file into your sig.
In the sig there will be tags like the image tags. I think it's something like [SIGIMAGE][/SIGIMAGE]
Put them where you want them to go and you'll be done.

Edit your signature and upload a signature picture.

Yeah I had already done that and I was finding my lack of signature afterwards, disturbing.

Good grief, there was a button I had to clicky to make it work? Completely missed that bit, thanks for heads up, shiny!

I'm able to post now, but earlier I wasn't able to type anything in the reply text areas.. Using Chrome and the Official Elite theme...

Is anyone else having trouble posting on the forums using google chrome? I'm currently using internet explorer but when I access the forums through google chrome for some reason it won't allow me to post in threads, send visitor messages or private messages

Or is this only happening to me?

Don't know what's been fixed in the last 24 hours but the forum's now behaving a LOT better with my cell phone and Opera browser. Looks like I don't have to download firefox for android after all.

As far at themes go I am finding the only one usable to be the minimal blackout constrained - which is great.
As far as forum functionality goes apart from already mentioned stuff which seems to be improving this is a great forum revamp.
:)

For the time being, try to not use the HTTPS version of the forums. http://forums.frontier.co.uk should be fine, let me know if it still tosses out errors.

Use the http version of the site as browsers are blocking unencrypted content such as the text box i had the same problem with firefox too its the mixed content protection not allowing your browser to load the scripts need to post. and it's not good to disable this feature.

I don't think it has been mentioned, though some mods are aware of it, Polls seem to be currently limited to 4 options. It's not a big deal in the overall scheme of things but it has put a bit of crimp in the drabble contests.

There are also some pros and cons with the new editor. On the one hand I like that it auto-inserts the appropriate BBCode characters when you press CTRL-I, CTRL-B etc. and gives you a CTRL-Z pseudo-undo function (if you don't mind the cursor jumping to the end of the message). Not quite WYSIWYG but pretty good.

OK, I've now found the WYSIWYG editor. You have to use the Go Advanced feature while replying and then click the top-left button in the editor window.

What I've not been able to do is to have this editor appear by default. Even when it's selected in the Settings page I always have to Go Advanced and click that button. Is this an issue with the forum configuration or a browser limitation? I'm running 32bit Chrome for compatibility reasons but it seems to behave the same on 64bit Internet Explorer.

Another oddity: using this WYSIWYG editor if I type, say, "normal bold normal" in the editor under Chrome then press the delete key, the last letter of "bold" is deleted instead of the last letter of the second "normal". Under IE it works as expected.

On the flip side, the right-click options with the spell checker et al now seems to be working under Chrome. It's all coming together nicely.

One final frustration (for this post at least). There seems to be a large gap in everyone's messages, between the final line of text and the signature separator, that serves no purpose other than to hold the Last edited by line for edited posts. On some posts it's bigger vertically than the whole of the text and signature combined. Is there any chance this can be reduced or is it a limit of the forum's CSS? I notice that even the shortest messages have the signature block below the avatar on the left, so I fear it might be a limitation of the layout.

Thanks for all the hard work. The new layout was something of a shock at first but it's starting to feel like home :)

Why there is only three smileys which are displayed on the whole lot ?

Most do work but the spelling, capitalisation, and having no spaces between the colons and the other characters is critical. (They're shown here on the right with extra spaces, for obvious reasons.)

and the one you missed out

 : o

The exception is the shocked :O which I can't make work in any variant, but as it's basically the same as : eek : it's really not much of a loss. The surprise is the (much used on this forum!) : rolleyes :, which isn't on the right-hand pick list but does get translated by the editor.

Liking the new design a lot, with one issue - the high contrast between text and the black background is hard on the eyes, particularly for those of us with vision problems. The theme concept is great, but the contrast could be softened by making the default text very pale grey and the background dark blue. Would another theme alternative be possible?

Thanks for the great work so far - the functionality is much improved over the old forums :)

Am in the process of whipping up another elite-ish theme that shouldn't be as vibrant/in-your-face coloring. :)

Format seems ok but the colour scheme is absolutely awful. Needs drastically toning down / returning to the previous colours.

Jumping from the elite dangerous main page (with its atmospheric black and oranges) into the forums has no continuity in terms of style / colour.

Thanks for the feedback - when you say main page to "into the forums", what do you mean? The threads listing? The posts within threads?

Hi there,

the new forum iteration looks spiffy!

However my #1 gripe is that hyperlinks are hard to make out. Regardless which theme I select they are not underlined and blend too much with the text, often make me overlook referenced documents or articles.

Please make the hyperlinks stand out more. Either by underlining them again (effectively web standard) or at minimum use a stronger color.

For my argumentative support see these two links:

No, really, I can't find links in pages.

Question: Can you spot the three links?

(Saw this thread too late, already created a post)
It's on the list. :)

Perfect.
It wasn't there when I was looking at the forums yesterday evening.

Does anyone know a way to get the forum breadcrumb trail at the bottom of the screen too ?
Clicking the Quick Nav at the bottom just brings up a menu. I would like the link back so i can go back to the forum the current thread I'm reading is in without having to scroll to the top, or click that top button. It used to be one click and it was done.

And whilst I'm thinking about it... Is there a way to make it default to advanced mode for all posts rather than the quick reply thing ?

I like this auto merge thing.
That's cool.

The background box that appears when you click on someone's name, in the forum thread list, needs to be much less transparent.
You can easily see the text underneath it and it makes it difficult to read what the pop up box is trying to tell you.

The background box for user name box clicks is on my list.. and has been for some time.

Don't know if this has been mentioned.... now we have inline video links should the "Show Images (including attached images and images in code)" option disable these, or should there be a new option? Basically I have all avatars and images and sigs turned off and would like the same for videos, whether it's a part of the mentioned option, or a new one. Cheers! :)[/QUOTE]

Hmm, that appears to be a global vbulletin settings that had to be added on the source code. I'll see what can be done about it.

That should be fixed now.
