I''ve managed to get into beta 2.0 but it says I cannot land on planets unless I own Horizons...which I should do as I am lifetime backer. What is going on ?

Does anyone remember Fileplanet? The site where you could download patches and demos? They had a cool queueing system that only served a specific number of downloaders at a time while putting the rest in a queue that would dynamically move people up as download slots became available. The best part about it was that it was completely transparent about what was going on and about when users would get their turn to download. That way they prevented a total gridlock and also stopped people from unknowlingly carrying out DDoS attacks by constanly refreshing the pages. That was 15 years ago. I wonder why the internet still hasn't evolved enough to have a system like that as a standard for big releases. Isn't it much better to provide small numbers of people with a complete copy of their download at a time than letting a huge number of people stumble over each other with no one getting a copy through the pipes?

Just for the record..
Horizons Beta downloaded just fine... Can start it..shows Beta 1..... start grayed out... no servers connection.
Overload on connections?

I got all the options as well in the launcer but I can't play them :(
horizon wont even start up and the beta 1.5 shipupgrade start up, but can't connect to server due to too new client :( :(

Just downloaded the installer again from Frontier site and Horizons is there.

EDIT: Server of course does not allow me to download as there is quite a large volume of people I guess. Frontier please release stats for us stat hungry nerds.

Create a shortcut to the launcher and launch directly without using steam. No need to download a new launcher. ;)

You're lucky, mine fluctuates between 0.26MB/s and 0.36MB/s with a peak of about 0.44MB/s

To give you a comparison of the speeds I can get, I dl'd GTAV on Steam a few weeks back, a 65Gb client and it only took an hour, with speeds averaging about 19.7MB/s with highs over 20MB/s.

I get these wretchedly poor speeds through the ED launcher every time there's a major update. It really is a poor show, according to my launcher it'll be another 6 hours yet before it finishes. If the beta is this bad, then I dread to think what the actual release will be like.

over here in the UK where the game is made, we cannot connect to server, download or do anything, nice to know canada gets it first :( lol lol

With the alternate launcher download link, I finally managed to get the download started.
Speeds vary from 0.1MB/s to 5.5MB/s for me, as of this writing moment I'm at 3.2MB/s in speed, ETA: 30 mins
