How is everybody managing their fleets and storage of multiple engineered versions of modules?

I sort them by station and mission. For example, have a mining Python stored in the same place as any modules for mining loadouts (I use a different loadout for surveying sites for eg.). Can see at a glance because all modules at that station are sorted to go with that ship and - if transferring - just transfer everything tagged, from that base. I have a Dophin taxi for moving bases around and a base for each occupation. You could go further and have a different base for each ship.

I'd love it if Fdev would just let us purchase what storage we need to suit our needs, 120 slots is still no where near enough for a lot of us. People are just buying ships left right and centre anyway so it's not like it's going to cost them in server storage any more than it is today.

Then if we just had categorised storage and an off toggle for the immensely annoying animations i'd change my name to Cmdr Happy Larry.

I mostly focus on building each ship for a specific use and then store it where I want to use it.

But, yes, I also have a fleet of Anacondas that don't do much but store engineered modules. I think the new system in 3.0 should cut down on that a bit as you will know going forward that engineering new modules will be somewhat easier.

I work mostly on building new "Home Systems" where I park an entire fleet of what I want to use in that region so that I can can just hop in a DBX from time to time to visit different areas and have the ships I want in place when I'm there.

I'd much rather have a decent fleet carrier

Just went on a shopping spree to acquire and try each and every available ship. Enginnering them is part of the testing, so lots of hassle swapping things around.

Some findings: there's option to store multiple modules, but didn't see an option to fit multiplr.

So, my storage methods:

* I use the 20 of 60 module slots as swap slots to store multiple and manually install modules.

* Ships are located around the bubble where my activities are. Example: I have a multi-purpose Python and an Eagle around Maia. Eagle is actually for engineering small thrusters that my EngineerConda can't fit.

* I specify roles for S/M/L ships: L miner, M miner. S combat, L combat, etc.

* I use similar ships in the size/role combo as storage and swaps: viper 3 with rails v viper 4 with Beams, etc.

* Remaining 40 of 60 storage slots are used for extras like c4 hardpoints I don't have enough ship slots to fit them in.

I could see myself using the extra 60 slots in 3.0 to store c4 hardpoints given the G1-G5 process for each new type of engineer module.

I don't really store Engineered modules.

If it's good enough to use, it's installed on a ship.
If it's not, it's sold.

So what do I store? A few alternate-configuration items for a few ships I haven't bought a duplicate of to install these on.
Sometimes I swap passenger cabins for cargo racks, or cargo racks for passenger cabins.
And I keep a couple extra brand new power-play modules in the event I either need them for something, or want to build a specific ship with a specific purpose in mind.

Now this expanded storage will prove useful to me, as it will afford me the opportunity to build some new modules and compare them 1:1 with my existing modules before deciding to either keep a Grandfathered module or upgrade it.

I'm not sure if that's going to be a nightmare or a walk in the park.

On the one hand, most of my ships just have "okayish" modules so, for example, on my AspX explorer, I can buy a new FSD, max it out and compare it with the one I have fitted and if it's better I'll be happy.

OTOH, I have a couple of ships which I've put a lot of effort into (often for no good reason) so comparing new with old will probably mean buying an entirely new ship and maxing-out every module to see if the result is better than my existing ship.... in which case the existing ship, which I put so much effort into, will be completely obsolete. [where is it]

I think there needs to be a certain amount of pain for having a Fleet.

Yeah, QoL counts, but I think running dozens of ships and not having shelf space for all your fancy toys is a rich man's problem. Why don't you cost out getting some Korean gold farmers to manage your fleet?
Pay a subscription and have someone else keep track of what you've got where and have it moved and configured for you.

"Bring me my Fed-de-Lance, my good man, I feel like a good ganking. Load it with death rays and park it up on a pad at the CG for an hour in open. That'll put the wind up them.
Text me when you're done."

Felicity Farseer is the only Engineer I've bothered to get to Grade 5 with. I tweak the FSD, the Thrusters, and the Power Plant, and if I don't get what I want within 5 rolls I take the last one I got and move on with my life. I think I've used 16 storage slots.

I dunno if I'd say I've put a lot of work into my fleet - they're all Grade 5 upgraded - I unlocked all the engineers quite a while ago, and brought them all up to Grade 5, so outfitting and upgrading has never really taken any tremendous amount of effort. I don't feel the need to sit and roll and roll and reroll.. min/maxing has never been my style.

Under the new system though... accumulating and upgrading 50 ships worth of modules is going to take me well into Not-A-Season-4 or 5.

I think I may be getting close to the 100 ship mark now. A third are old book marks, a third are storage ships a third are ships I fly.
