Guide / Tutorial How to dock an Anaconda without risk

Always dock and undock with the landing gear DOWN (the ship isn't actually larger and it allows thrust buttons to work)

Don't quite understand this point, surely thrust controls work all the time?
I don't own a Conda yet, (can't afford one), so don't know if its specifically different for that ship but, every single ship I have bought and flown, the thrust controls work regardless of whether the landing gear is up or down, they always work.

I'm having second thoughts about getting an Anaconda if you can lose it so easily to a bugs when docking.

You don't lose it easily to bugs on landing. There may have been a few inatances of it happening (as there have been people losing other ships for unexplained reasons).

Most look like they may have been from people going through the docking port with landing gear down (and ripping it off) although I have seen one vid of someone who didn't.
That is why the recommendation to enter with gear down is so wrong.

I have docked my Anaconda 100s of times. I have got it wrong by varying degrees many times without losing it (nearly always comoletely my fault) and not once (in beta or since launch) have I had it explode for no reason.

10 people out of 100s claiming they have lost their ship to a bug (when there isn't any proof what happened either way either) does not make it something that happens easily.

Beware the Melodrama!

Depends on how your in-station controls set up. I have the alternative set off. It isn't needed (a least if you are flying with a joystick).

There does appear to be a brief point where lateral thrusters do not work when you are about half way through the docking port. It is brief though and if you are entering at around 100m/s (99 to avoid fines in 1.3 ;)) it isn't an issue.

If you have progressed through and got into and anaconda without learning to fly/land properly then you deserve all the damage!

Docking pads 10, 40, and 25 are the easy ones because they're near the end of the docking bay so you just rotate to align and fall right in. Where as, anything else is best to use your ship's compass, killing throttle once you clear the entrance port. Align so the white dot is nearly about to change to hollow, then just add water because it makes it's own sauce.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that before but I have had some funny occurrences with the entrance to the slot recently, most notably this morning where my Anaconda with 4A shield and 8 (count 'em) A-rated shield boosters just clipped the side of the slot at I'd guess no more than 120m/s and kaboom!

I had the insurance and at this point I'm just grinding for trade Elite so I don't care about the money but it was something of a shock to lose the ship for no discernable reason. Thinking about it I did deploy the gear while going through the slot.

I haven't lost an Annie to docking yet, and I usually bump and scrape it a few times a night with no noticeable effect. I've stuck myself to the roof a few times on exit recently (something I never used to do when I first had it; odd) but have always managed to get out. It really does suck you up too, as even using the vertical thrusters it seems to need a good deal of thrust to unstick you and pull you back down off the roof.

Anyway normally if I bump and scrape as I go in or out I just hear the buzz of the shields and that's it. On a rare few occasions however I've gone through and heard a sort of clang noise instead, and have noticed that I've nearly lost the outer ring on my shields. I have no idea what this has been due too.

Being that much larger ships are coming to the game, Panther clipper & corvette why not just extend the use of tha docking computer to entrance and exit?????

Or make the slot much larger. Maybe 4 times present size????????

This is a way that you will be able to dock an Anaconda. You can dock one like anything else if you like but this way works for me and it is precise and works every time. It also avoids overshoot of the docking pad and the pad number is irrelevant.
This will work for any ship just adjust the bit about where the cockpit is i.e. the first line.
Everything else is the same (although only really relevant for large ships)
.

A rather well made Docking instructional, for those with their first 'Conda well done Cmdr. It is brilliant for the launch too. I find now as the Docking Computer is so reliable though I tend to use that as I can do other stuff while it lands itself usually quicker than me as it can ignore the new 1.3 speed limits on station approach. But +1 rep for this post.

docking computer in and yellow mouse dot thingy enabled for going out. doesnt pay to go to slowly

... or downgrade to python which is what i did

That has to be the best presented guide to a non-issue I've yet seen.

Seriously though, its a very well presented guide.

EDIT: Ok maybe its just from flying a Clipper. Wide bird that begs you to rip into stations at 250+. After that, nothing's hard to land.

You know this would be my answer too... especially after my 1.3 update... ;)

Hmm no bias there :p

To be honest i've only used the docking computer a few times (when i first got my T9) and then sold it .. and decided to be brave and manually dock..

As for the Anaconda, yes i`ve had a few scrape exit/ entries, usually when i`m tired, as some one else said don't fly when tired- with a full cargo of palladium.. it can be VERY expensive..

Nice little guide, I had to refer to it to making sure I was doing the right thing when trying to leave a station today - I hit a bug where the airlock was a wall... and a magnet... and I've lost my conda! ;(
