How to get the DK2 working

I made a guide over in general... Should get it up and running :)

Thanks for the guide. I have done everything as good as I could.

1) I can't shut off the services in processes as you describe. They are not running in the first place

2) Everything works fine - BUT there is no headtracking in ED. In every other demo it's working fine - but NOT in Elite Dangerous. How to enable that??

Help :)

I do believe that this guide is now out of date. If you've updated the software and the firmware then it should be possible to stop the services from within the oculus control software.

Check headtracking works using the in-built test. You may have to restart the services before you stop them again.

Ok - so I have updated the firmware for DK2 - headtracking works fine in other demos. But sill not in elite. I can see the game - but It wont track??

Also - I'm having trouble finding where I can stop these "services" ?

:S

Sorry I was away from my own machine last time I replied..

open the Oculus Configuration Utility

click the menu option

Tools > Advanced > Pause Service

I guess just because it worked for me doesn't necessarily mean it'll work for you. I take it you've set the options Extend Desktop to the HMD and DK1 Legacy App Support?

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. If all else fails there's a chance the next build of Elite might solve your problems.

Had the same problem: ED running on the Rift but no tracking at all.

Solution: Shut down the Camera!
There is a problem with AMD GPU and the Rift camera. As soon as i pulled the cable, stoped the service an ran ed, the tracking started working (of course without positional tracking) but nevertheless a great experience really beeing inside the cockpit.

Join the club......still waiting to SSE4.1 fix. Don't want to fill my system up with other games and demos just want to test ED without looking over my shoulder after 10 minutes of head drift.

I can confirm that positional tracking does work with an AMD graphics card.

1. Make sure you have closed all services, Before starting ED.
2. Check that the tracking camera is plugged in to the correct port (not just any old USB Port) in the instructions in specifically says the back of the computer. I know this was causing some people problems at the beginning.

Dk2

Ok - so for what it's worth. I got the tracking ON by doing a simple step.

1) As suggested - in the OCULUS CONFIG program before starting ED - PAUSE services. Dot not attempt to CTRL-ALT-DELETE and find the service.

2) The camera will now turn off (blue light goes off)

Now I have perfect tracking support ingame....

no DK2 head tracking

hi, so ive got the game up and running with my DK2, in game its set to 3D Oculus headphones, 1920*1080 and 75hz, in the nvidia control pannel the rift is also set to 75hz. alot of people say to stop the oculus_64service in the task manager and wscript.exe servce, i dont have a wscript servce and when i end process and end process tree for oculus_64 it just starts again. so the game works but there is no head tracking. can anybody help??

also when on the DK2 its quite blurry and not well focused i chaged the 3D level but it dosnt fix the blurrlyness, if thats a word.

the firmware for the rift is updated and it works great in other games and demos.

my system is

I7 4790k
8GB corsair 2133mhz
gigabyte windforce GTX 780
windows 7

been playing elite without the rift and im loving it so far it would just be even better with the rift and head tracking

thanks.

I have head-tracking working, but framerate is a nauseating 40fps. So am thinking I may have to replace my trusty EVGA 680 GTX with a new 980 GTX when stocks become available.

In the latest configuration utility (Download the runtime from Oculus) there is the option the TOOLS/ADVANCED menu to pause the service. You don't have to stop them in the the task manager.

Your system specs look more than adequate to handle the OR and ED.

Regarding the blurryness, I can only think that maybe you have not set up the rift correctly to your physical build or perhaps your graphics card is not setup correctly.

Don't forget the image on the DK2 is not as clear as you will get on the monitor, there is still the screen door effect and judder/blurr when moving your head at low frame rates.

Is your frame rate that low everywhere? Most people (even those with kickbottom gpus) are getting around 75fps in space, but dropping to 30/40/50s in and around space stations/asteroid fields.

I'm not familiar with your GPU, and of course you need a decent one, but you might want to hold off on a major investment until Beta 2 is released and see what performance optimisations that brings

Problems from... now, basically

Hi guys,
Yesterday I was playing with my DK2 with no problems, up to when the server went down for maintenance.

Today I launched E: D with no changes at all (Oculus service stopped as usual and all options set as they were yesterday), but the image is now splitted between the 2 eyecups and I can't manage to get it back working.

Any idea of why this happened/how to solve this? :S

Thanks!

Oculus Rift DK2: Oculus mode not working properly

I had my DK2 working in this game a couple weeks ago, and now it won't. Here are the steps I've taken.

1) Set DK2 to extended desktop and checked DK1 Legacy support
2) Tools > Advanced > Pause service
3) Set DK2 as primary monitor in windows
4) Launch E:D

This is where my problem is. When the game is set in the Oculus Mode in the graphics settings, my head tracking works, but I see two menus and it is blurry as hell. When I have 3d setting set to Off, I see just the one menu, and its clear/easy to read, but no head tracking.

Did they change something? Did I miss a step?

Thanks for the help, I was really looking forward to playing before work today.

double image in each eye is usually caused by vorpX still running in the background.

I fixed my double screen/blurry problem. Here's how:

Make sure your DK2 is set to profile (which actually makes it landscape) in Windows monitor configuration. Make sure vorpx is off (as the last poster said). Pause service in oculus configuration. Launch E:D, go to graphics settings, swith oculus mode on (under 3D), make sure your resolution is set to 1920x1080.

My particular problem was the resolution was set to 756x1080 or something like that. Correcting the resolution solved my problem.

WOW

I just tried using my OR DK2 on ED again after the latest update of the DK2 runtime (previous attempts had not worked, no matter what I did). I disabled the DK2 OVRService using the pause option in the OR configuration tools menu, got the Rift set up already as extended desktop with it rotated correctly. Just selected that screen in game and set OR mode. It worked flawlessly :)

I was blown away. ED even tracks all the movement of your head using the OR camera. Can't quite read the message text because of OR screen resolution blur? No problem, just lean forward and up to get closer to the floating virtual display! Stand up physically and your viewpoint raises with you, lean left or right and the viewpoint leans with you. I was even able to lean forward and look down at my feet!!! Did not know there was a door behind me in the cockpit until I was able to turn right round in the OR. LOL

Now, if only the game would stop freezing or crashing after just a few minutes of play, I would spend hours in the OR just playing ED :)
