HTC Vive resolution and  focus

Just because you don't have issues (or you accept the low quality as it is) doesn't mean it works for everyone.

My game has horrible aliasing issues and text is undreadable at points, it looks like playing on a tiny resolution. Just putting SS to 1.5 or 2.0 isn't an option for everyone. I have a GTX980 and the game runs like      with anything above 1.0 SS.

So I have to lower my standards to not be disappointed at the rate at which patches and necessary fixes happen?

No. I'm still disappointed. Unless they fix the resolution and readability issues I still can't play this game I specifically got VR for.
You can do what you want with your expectations. It seems foolish to be disappointed that a fix that was explicitly stated would come later is not in today. It's like being disappointed that something you ordered via UPS 3-day shipping didn't come the following day. Sounds a touch insane, right? Like being frustrated that a wall won't move when you push it.

They are working on a fix. They've said so. That fix was not coming at the launch of 2.1 and that was very clear. Consequently, you should have had no illusions or expectations for it.

Set your expectations correctly next time so we don't have to have silly conversations. Most of this information is right there in the OP. We're all waiting for a fix, me longer than you. But I'm not disappointed because like everyone else who's read the damn thread, there was no reason to expect anything to fix the aliasing issues in this patch. Not ever. But be disappointed if it makes you feel better.

Hi, Vive user here.
Beta 6 was fine. Not perfect, but putting the HMD quality slider to max made the text quality perfect, and turning up the overall rendering resolution to 1.5x or even 2x makes everything super smooth. It gets to the point where the Vive's resolution and fresnel glare is the only limiting factor.
You're running this game at 2x supersampling and it's "super smooth"? I call . Post your rig specs.

Yeah, they say they work on fixes all the time, but the rate at which they are pushed to live servers is abysmal. And that is what disappoints me.

I'm guessing the super smooth referred to how things looked rather than how things ran (i.e. picture vs frame-rate).

The patch is live, I'm stuck at work, can anyone report if the UI slider is in the options menu? I can't be bothered to download this huge patch if they haven't even fixed the issue.

About 10 mins left to download. However, I suspect Frontier will want to authorise our accounts again by emailing us a code (like they've done in the past).

That process, unfortunately, has taken an hour+ for me to get the email on previous occasions...

As expected, nothing changed from the beta.

Still bad readability, low quality render, certain icons like the Federation icon in stations are extremely low quality, any attempts at improving visuals results in jittery headtracking, in fact it seems like overall performance has gone down, I can't even look around without the entire screen jumping around, even though it was fine in previous version and any other game.. No new options in the menu settings either.

This is beyond disappointing.

Yep, there is no slider or setting option. If there was supposed to be a slider for text IQ then the feature has not been implemented.

It is listed in the patch notes but I see no meaningful difference between the Beta that was noted had NOT received the listed update and what we have now.

Would be good to get some clarification from FDev on this situation. Someone might need to make a new thread to make sure the question is not missed by those who have answers.

That said, the game has been running fairly well for me since the Beta. I'm running at 1x SS, VR High presets for everything and SMAA for AA. If your rig can handle it for now (until they fix these issues), I'd recommend it.

FDev, help us. I think we've been more than patient. It's coming up on 60 days since Vive launch and we still have no implemented fixes for the aliasing or text resolution issues.

Another update on progress would be nice.

New patch - Ive noticed text is (slightly) more legible. But my gameplay on vr low now stutters some where before it did not.

HTC Vive user here and I definitely noticed a positive improvement with today's patch. While the UI Slider option is still not present everything looks more stable and text is definitely more legible. I wonder if the UI option is available as a text file option? Or as they mentioned with beta forgot to remove entry as it didn't make it in, in time...if that is the case likely next update will include it.

My settings with a GTX 970 ( SLI doesn't work :( )

turn off both :
- SLI
- GSync

on Nvidia 3d Options set vsync to "fixed rate"

on Game:
- VR Low
- SuperSampling x2.0
- Shadows : Off

It works and looks pretty smooth... just text font is to much blurry atm... FD should remove last aliasing to it for SS x2.0

bleh.

This is what i thought would happen. I didnt expect much of a fix but I thought they might at least do something.
Not even putting in the slider is very disappointing.

It seems like oculus with all their terrible DRM decisions is actually winning the VR battle. I have to assume that in addition for forcing some companies to delay or deny release of their titles outside of the oculus store they are also encouraging them not to fix vive issues.

The vive is stuck with tech demos while the rift has several actual proper games despite the vive clearly being better hardware at this time due to room scale and the controllers.
Theres no way I could recoup anywhere near my costs on the Vive by selling it so ill keep it i guess, but I certainly am beginning to wish I never bought it in the first place.

I'm under the impression that they DID implement the change. If you look at the beta 5 patch notes, they clarified the following:

Minor edit to the patch notes.

The UI scaling mentioned in the patch notes below is actually done automatically depending on your VR device's field of view to maximise readability. We hope that this will allow players to have the best VR experience possible as we continue to refine this functionality.

I for one can see a significant improvement going from 2 to 2.1. Granted, I'm on VR low and I suspect that they may have tweaked the VR presets to optimize their quality, but it seems clear to me that they are working on it.
