HTC Vive resolution and  focus

Well with no news on this I'm going back to my monitor and Track IR or not play until fixed :(

I'm having a hard enough time with motion sickness never mind trying to focus on a kaleidoscope of shimmering text etc.

I've noticed the left and right panels in a Python have a better clarity than the Cobra. I'd say between 20-30% better. Not tried other ships yet.

Edit: HMD position reset can also make subtle improvements (or hinder).

Sadly I've stopped playing ED until they can sort this out :(

Yeah I've spent the latter part of my time in Elite messing with the various graphics settings to no avail.

So much so I've no idea what it is I was doing in game anymore, I'm lost, in space, in Minecraft space ! :O

I still play it a bit, but with the current sorry state for Vive users and my refusal to play on a projector after trying VR leads me to spend lot less time in ED and lot more time on other more optimized games. It is a sad state of affairs as I've looked forward to playing ED the most and I've ended up playing it the least. Vive has been out for months now and FD had access to dev kit unlike many other devs for almost a year now in different versions, so there is really no excuse especially as Valve was always very forthcoming with what the devs should do for the game to look pretty.... I mean you could almost develop a VR optimized game from their info online without even owning the damn thing... I've spent some time in different apps and ED so far is the lowest point in VR for me on Vive and that is truly disappointing considering that it is one of my favorite games Not sure if Vive is not priority for FD, but sure as it becomes available in highstreet within week or so I expect the complaints to get worse and worse... Pitty.

Exactly this, well said !

Anyway I'm off to shoot those fellows in the lab with my bow and antialaised arrows ! ;)

Just another one to chime in with difficulties, got my Vive on Thursday and yes I'm running a 970 not a {9|10}80 and yes I'm running 965.10 but illegible menu text and also either 'resolution' issues or aliasing issues make discovery for me on the Vive a non-starter:- put another way I don't think I'd have found California Barnacles if I'd been in VR. At the moment it's a huge shame as I adore the cockpit of my python in VR so another vote for fixes coming thick and fast...

I probably shouldn't say this outside of the Offtopic forum, but psst, 'House of the Dying Sun' is a great bit of space cockpit dogfighting action and runs great on Vive, because Unity, and with your HOTAS. And it's short enough that I don't think it will permanently affect ED's customer base - just pretend you are part of House Duval's Imperial Guard out for re-weng-ay on those Fed scum!

Had mine for a while now and I've found that the text in ED is very sensitive to correct fitting of the headset. Anyway, I can read it without any problems now I've got used to it. Shame about pixelated mess that passes for station exteriors, but hopefully they'll come up with some sort of fix.

An i7 5820 o/c to 3900 + a 970 o/c about 5% with the latest Nvidia drivers gives me 60fps in station, which will do until I can throw a 1080 at it. I don't get VR sickness (someone mentioned this further up the thread) with ED; only had it once and that was playing Toy Plane Heroes.

I agree with the need for correct fitting. Took me first day to get it right, but the problem is that reading the UI text is still very tiring on the eye. When I'm in a dock or station the writing for the "bulletin" is rather clear and somewhat easy to read, but the UI text for the ship and side boards is much more eye straining and that I see as a problem for a game that requires me to read the UI a lot - actually leads to a head ache in my case. It also means that finding anything when exploring is almost impossible as anything few meters away is a sparkly mess like the stations. Top it all off with scaling issues where things appear to be smaller then 1to1 and it is a great mix of terrible optimization... I love the full details my 980ti can manage when SS is on 1, but I'm forced to play at VR High with no ambient lighting, medium shadows and almost no Special FX just so I can run SS1.5 to read the text. This is bad optimization for Vive by definition.

I get it - things can go wrong when a game is in an eternal early access as feature creep will make devs chase for features rather then bug fixes, but this is not some small bug ( timer about extra bonus credit). I can play other VR games for hours, but I can only last about 1 hour in ED before I have to take half an hour break for my eyes or I get a head ache. I can understand that fix might not be all that easy, but it isn't that hard to come on the forum and tell us what is happening and if we can expect the bug fix soon or if we should shelf the game for few weeks (it has been months now) as FD doesn't know how to fix it. It sucks, but treating your customers with respect is not a luxury, but common decency. It took FD over a month to acknowledge the issue and now we had another months of silence... I would understand if FD were some garage dev where 4 guys spend 60 hours a week developing the game, but I've seen better communication from tiny indie devs then from FD and that does make me concerned as customer. I've pre-ordered Horizons and it was a bad deal. Now I'm supporting VR and I've bought Vive. If elite was the only game I bought it four I would be gutted...

To give a small update. I've just let my friend try Vive in ED. To no surprise the pre-order got canceled. In his words - " No g way I'll play this sparkly mess - we are not in the 90s"... Well done to FD making an impression for potential VR users. As he planned to play ED as his main game enough said. I'm probably going back to projector for time being as well (the headaches caused by eye strain are not worth it for me), but seriously FD - this is not funny. You are one of the few AAA titles in VR (or at least you act and price like AAA) but you should just make it clear that Vive isn't supported as it really isn't polished experience at the moment... I'm surprised that steam doesn't pull it from you as they really should. I want VR to succeed and with companies stamping "supported" stickers on products which shouldn't have them will cause only heartache to users and generally bad image for the VR in the long run..

PS - thank you for the recommendation of 'House of the Dying Sun' I'll be sure to try it :)

FD always said that they are in the frontier of VR gaming with Elite, guess what FD, every review, every video, every editorial of the Vive talks about how incredible are the experiences and games in the Vive WITH THE EXEPCION OF ELITE DANGEROUS, you need to fix this game in the Vive, you are getting bad press everywhere. And I get it, its a complex game in VR, but for the solo reason that it runs good in the cv1 makes it unacceptable. You should know that more people is buying Vives, its the better VR headset right now, more and more people is canceling oculus orders to get Vives with all the fuzz and hate with oculus becoming the new Apple and hurting the PC ecosystem, its all over reddit and the internet, every show and every developer are using the Vive to do showcases, but you can't. Fix it please, or at least gives us some hope.

Over multiple threads the devs have acknowledged the issues and said they are working on it. You do understand the Rift and Vive are from different companies with different drivers, different hardware configs, different code... Your impatience is not one of their motivating factors. When they have a fix, they'll release it. Those whining, making up untrue facts in this thread to support specious arguments and issuing hollow threats will not speed them up in the slightest.

Quoting reddit (the largest assembled group of anonymous, self-entitled, impatient babies) as gospel is no better then claiming Wikipedia as a reliable source. If you truly have no faith in Frontier over this, then go buy a Rift and be done with it.

White knights never fail to come to defense :D

Most people wouldn't have the problem with Frontier taking their time if they didn't advertise it as supported. Impatience isn't the right term here nor is indicating that those unhappy with the state should just shut up and wait for FD without asking for info... The game is ADVERTISED as supported, but isn't performing as such since release which was some time ago... No Excuse!!! Would one month since release be reasonable ??? Maybe... Is keeping players in dark and waiting with no expected time line reasonable when the VIve is out for 2 months??? Absolutely not!!!

What are you talking about ?

With the exception of a couple of OTT posts this thread has been pretty civilised and relatively good humoured, all anyone is asking is for a dev to drop in and say something, anything !

They are no doubt working on it and they don't have to say a word to anyone until "soon" but Zac started the thread then disappeared ......?

I honestly think it's not getting dev attention because it's been too quiet in here and no one is getting told off ;)

Who's first then, cmon !!? ;)

Just checked back after a month away from Elite to see if this is fixed yet, sorry to see that it looks like it is still a no go on the Vive.

I was so disappointed when I first tried to play on the Vive shortly after my wave 1 preorder arrived that I stopped playing the game entirely. I was halfway to Sag A and couldn't wait for VR but going back to the monitor has just felt wrong with the Vive sat there. I want to come back to the game but with so much else out there that works it's hard to justify it.

Please fix this, I don't want to be stranded halfway to the core forever!

Yep, sorry to say but I am very dissapointed as well.. FD shut they mouth and avoid the subject... Sorry to say. If they will not fix this soon my adventure with Elite will be finished shortly also. In other words. Guys, change your business model or RIP.

Absolutely true. The silence they feed us kill us. This is not fair, not professional and make harm in general. I do not understand this as many of us too. It is like the message in the internet bank saying: welcome when you cant make your transfers. I believe this is what worries us the most.

No need to for paranoid "nothing will be fixed" gloom. FD have said they are working on it. If they were to say something now, they would say they are still working on it. It's not a trivial thing to fix. Just because FD do not give weekly heartbeat updates on everything they are working on does not mean they have stopped working on it and are all making doughnuts with SRVs on Mitterrand Hollow.

Hi All

Thought this may be related. Gamma and AA bug on YouTube that seems to have exaggerated the problems we see with the Vive.

Also any developments with the fix? Should be fixable, they had it working in previous versions from my understanding.

Fly safe cmdrs, and hold on in there
