HTC Vive resolution and  focus

beta 2.2 V5 put a hmd image quality with numbers instead of the old unprecise slider. Goes from 0.5x to 2x. Same with supersampling in game goes from 0.5 to 2x. You don't need to edit the steamVR render anymore, just put hmd quality to 2x and supersampling to 0.65x like before.

So there's numbers on the HMD slider or is this slider actually changing the render target in steamvr on the fly ?

No more slider, numbers instead for hmd quality. You can put the steamVR settings back to 1 and never touch it again :)

! And just noticed that for both hmd quality and supersampling there is a new "value" called "OCT", putting OCT for hmd quality and supersampling offers good visuals for VIVE HMD ( wayyyyyyy better than what we get on live with 1x and max slider for hmd quality). No mentions in patch note but looks like issues are being fixed!

Neither, it just does the same thing as steam does. You can actually combine them. I use the rift and it's called pixel density but again it's the same thing. I tried 4.0x by combining the two. Was laggy as heck but it was GORGEOUS. The stars were TINY, like real stars

Oh, if this is really working, it will be great ... now here I am, stuck at work ... that same work that allowed me to buy VR ... its a love/hate relationship ;)

Confirm , now we can play more with sliders (numbers) inside EDH beta 5. Also tryed combining , can't find my settings with solid 90 fps.
But 4x is absolutly fantastics Vive expirence..

I've had a quick mess about with the new options but really cant see what hope this offers tbh, its more of the same and less of the fix imo.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

The real "plus" for me is to avoid the steamVR file editing that was messing with some other games. Now all you need is "in" ED settings.

Oh my, first vive patch shows up _exactly_ 6 months after vive release. There are no oculus deals (TM)

Amazing isn't it :)

I'm during test yet, but noticed that HMD quality can be maxed only for 2.0.
In beta 4 in SteamVR I had 2.2 and in game 0.65 with my gtx 1080 and i7.
But it look like I have more FPS rigth now. Don't have to go down with SS , now is 1.0 , HMD 2.0 and looks great.

Question is if this is a fix or if we are simply getting Steam SS slider and no other changes. IE if we still have to run GTX1080 to have semidecent experience or if there are actual improvements.

Normally I would just pick up Beta and test myself, but FD are not getting any money from me until I know that there is an actual fix and not just their typical work around which kills my GTX 980ti the same way as the current 0.65 SS in ED and 2x in SteamConfig...

Example test if possible would be - running ED SS at 1, HMD Quality at 2 and settings on VR High (from the current version, not Beta High as I think that Beta high has SS at 1.25) and then see if the FPS is stable on Vive and if the quality is actually improvement compared to SS 0.65 and Steam 2x as considering the values the improvement should be considerable and if it doesn't kill frame rates it would be a huge leap in the right direction...

PS - Any scale sliders? or is the scale improved for those who had scaling issues?

PSS - Thank you to all who have beta and chip in with their results. I'm eager to hear if Vive users finally get some FD love....

I really want to hope, but ...

Is possible to play with solid 90 fps with HMD 2.0 and SS 1.0 and yes image is munch better.
Becouse now in new beta 2.0 (HMD Q) x 1.0 = 2.0 , before I had 2.3 (SteamVr) x 0.65 = 1.49
Forget about VR High or VR LOW, just do own custom settings and turn ON in Steam VR settings - "always reprojections"

Just tried the new 'OCT' option as well. Not entirely sure what 'OCT' actually stands for, or what, precisely, it does, but it seems to have made the SteamVR SS hack unnecessary, made the text clearer over and above that, and actually sorted out some minor, but annoying, anti-aliasing issues.

How does one set the OCT setting on those options? Are they available within the game or do they require config file modification? How is the performance compared to other settings?

"OCT" seems to replace "1.25" in the dropdowns... Just a messed up text string? :p

Appearing right after 1.0... hmm... "Optimized"... err... "(to) Cumulative"... "(frame) Timing"...? :p
"Oversampling Certain Text"?
"Oranges and Cinnamon Toast"?

Would really like to know what it is. :)
