I'm starting to think my problem is the NVidia drivers or the game itself.
So tonight I was playing on my Rift just becuase. Same circumstances:
1.) Conflict Zone (High)
2.) Capital Ship
3.) Deployed fighter (does not matter which ship I'm piloting)
4.) Ship under construction
5.) Fighting relatively near the capital ship
6.) 15-20 minutes of play
I notice the following, whether I'm in my Rift of Vive: GPU fans start getting louder, foreshadowing a big, temporary freeze. Audio starts to skip and stammer, visuals show an hourglass (rift) or black screen (vive) for a second. Black screen happen maybe 3 times in a 10 second span, then go away. GPU goes back to a quieter fan speed. Maybe a minute or a few later, it will happen again.
I did about 3.5 hours of CZ combat and I had maybe 6 or 7 total black screens spread between roughly 3 clusters. I was not in a CZ with a Cap ship the entire time.
The fact that this same problem happens on BOTH VR headsets really only leaves the 3 possibilities:
a.) GPU drivers (possible, but no problems with other games)
b.) GPU (possible, but no problems with other games
c.) Game (probable, but not many other reports from Vive/Rift owners)
So here is what I'd like anyone who enjoys combat in their Vive to go do: Take a fighter-equipped ship and find a local system not too far away that has a Civil War/War state. Jump in some high intensity CZs. If you find one with a Cap Ship, stay awhile and hang out close to the cap ship. See if you have any issues. I only see the stuttering happen when the above 6 conditions are met. But because I keep going to nearby CZs trying to train up my pet pilot, I see it every time I find one with a cap ship and it's frustrating.
It's nice to know it's not my Vive, but it's also distressing to not know if it's the game, the drivers or my hardware.
