HTC Vive resolution and  focus

I changed that setting ,ALWAYS ON to checked, as posted a page back... And now what i get is as you described, but when I load into a new area, after a few moments that choppyness fades and the game runs smoother. It can happen, just a single skip or two at combat when there's a lot of ships if in close, but if the combat is a little further away and i fly to it, it doesn't happen

going back to that CZ now and will try various SteamVR configurations. will report results. If it continues to go ham, I'll reinstall my drivers (or roll them back). If it is still acting dumb, I'll just switch to my Rift for the time being.

So I disabled Interleaved -and- Always On.

Performance in general was far, far better. But still those same hiccups, no matter what setting I had it on.

Something about the CZ + Capital Ship + Fighter that really makes the performance freak out. I don't know what's doing it, to be honest.

If anyone else has a fighter-capable ship and doesn't mind making a trip to Imperial space, head over to Guathiti. One of the High Intensity CZs near Messier Port. Spend maybe 30 minutes there and let me know if you have no performance issues over time while in VR. And by performance issues, I mean occasional freezes in audio and video. Most frequently when fighting close to the Capital ship with your fighter nearby (or your main ship near by if you're in the fighter).

It's like 1:30am where I am so I'm not in the mood to clean out and install new drivers or switch to my Rift. I'll do that tomorrow.

FWIW, I'm on the Nvidia hotfix drivers. 375.76. Rig is in my signature. Issue doesn't happen in any other games or when I'm playing ED outside of VR.

Has anybody noticed a change in their ship's flight model since these updates? I realize it sounds crazy, but since I implemented the SteamVR beta and changed my graphic settings, my FAS has developed a bit of a shimmy when coming into stations. I thought it might have to do with the reprojection interpolation, but it's not just in the main visual display -- the little holographic image of the ship on the dashboard does this same sashay. It's like the ship has developed an attitude.

I also noticed heavy dip in performance when in intense combat. During a surface mission I was driving in the SRV, shooting at defence turrets which in turn were shooting at me, skimmers flying around and shooting. The fps totally tanked.

My current setup is the Vive, i7 4790k OC @ 4.6, 16Gb DDR3, 1070 GTX:
Ingame settings VR ultra with AO off, FX at medium. Ingame SS at 1.0 and HMD quality at 2.0

Otherwise the game runs fine, combat is ok when one-on-one or a couple ships. But intense space- or planetary combat totally tanks the performance. Also, I might add, that mining lasers also cause a significant drop in framerate, but I noticed that this was already in the "known issues" list.

I'm starting to think my problem is the NVidia drivers or the game itself.

So tonight I was playing on my Rift just becuase. Same circumstances:

1.) Conflict Zone (High)
2.) Capital Ship
3.) Deployed fighter (does not matter which ship I'm piloting)
4.) Ship under construction
5.) Fighting relatively near the capital ship
6.) 15-20 minutes of play

I notice the following, whether I'm in my Rift of Vive: GPU fans start getting louder, foreshadowing a big, temporary freeze. Audio starts to skip and stammer, visuals show an hourglass (rift) or black screen (vive) for a second. Black screen happen maybe 3 times in a 10 second span, then go away. GPU goes back to a quieter fan speed. Maybe a minute or a few later, it will happen again.

I did about 3.5 hours of CZ combat and I had maybe 6 or 7 total black screens spread between roughly 3 clusters. I was not in a CZ with a Cap ship the entire time.

The fact that this same problem happens on BOTH VR headsets really only leaves the 3 possibilities:

a.) GPU drivers (possible, but no problems with other games)
b.) GPU (possible, but no problems with other games
c.) Game (probable, but not many other reports from Vive/Rift owners)

So here is what I'd like anyone who enjoys combat in their Vive to go do: Take a fighter-equipped ship and find a local system not too far away that has a Civil War/War state. Jump in some high intensity CZs. If you find one with a Cap Ship, stay awhile and hang out close to the cap ship. See if you have any issues. I only see the stuttering happen when the above 6 conditions are met. But because I keep going to nearby CZs trying to train up my pet pilot, I see it every time I find one with a cap ship and it's frustrating.

It's nice to know it's not my Vive, but it's also distressing to not know if it's the game, the drivers or my hardware.

Have you checked what processes are eating your resources when this happens? I recently had an issue where windows anti virus software would run because my anti virus was not officially recognised in windows 10. They process was called malicious software removal tool. I had to disable it in the registry. As an aside.. I would recommend going through the whole process of disabling all the unnecessary windows 10 services etc if you haven't done so already.

I haven't looked, no.

I'll have it open next time.

Dude the windows antivirus is called Windows Defender, the Malicious Software Removal Tool is something different which is run on demand and is used by other AV programs, so if it was running your AV must have requested it. Don't go recommending people to start disabling services unless they know what they are doing. I'm sure you don't want to be blamed if anything untoward happens.

How do you guys use the galaxy map while using the Vive ?
I'm having difficulty selecting near by star systems to see the info etc

Me too! I find there is some sort of alignment issue with the VIVE when trying to select stars in the galaxy map by either looking at the star or using the mouse pointer to select it. I find that if I enter the galaxy map, and don't adjust the angle of the view, I can select the star by looking slightly off to the lower left of the star. Hope they fix this as it can be difficult to select stars in the Galaxy map.

It would be good if that star were automatically highlighted, straight after you search for it by name and locate it. It would save having to highlight it again, in order to get the options to bookmark it, plot or view system map.

When in the galaxy map, I use my HOTAS to slide the pointer around in x/y/z and rotate around as needed. I zoom in and out with the scroll wheel on my mouse.

Generally I prefer to type the name of where I'm going in, but I can manage with just the galmap, my hotas and mouse. It's a bit awkward, but do-able.

@Heavenly Hammer - that was nvidia driver issue don't you ?

I'm still not sure. I haven't found a new CZ with a cap ship spawning since the most recent Nvidia driver update. It only happened in that situation. I'll try to find another one. If anyone sees a CZ with a cap ship, please post here so I can test

Yes I am but it still dose not fix the problem, just makes it look better, its not a proper fix for the usless FD graphics engine.

New firmware update ( 9th december HMD + Lighthouses) gets my Elite image worst. All texts are more blurry, anyone noticed that issues ?
My settings are HMD Q 2.0 , SS 1.0 , async rep. , rep always on and before update I had ultra sharp image. I don't know how to roll back this messy update.
