Hyperspace graphic

After my first journey out of the bubble, I realised the star backgrounds changed according to where you are in the galaxy.
Cool.

But I was wondering if the hyperspace graphic sequence actually showed the stars you're passing by on the way to your destination system?

I've been watching the sequence carefully to see if it's just a standard reel but it seems no two sequences are alike. I mean, you seem to passing different stars in each jump.
Is it just randomly generated?

if I did not know any better I would say its just an anime loop
but in saying that I believe there are a few of them not just one, each one slightly different
and they select s different one every now and then to keep the illusion of traveling fresh so to speak
I don't know this for a fact and am just guessing mind u based on a dev diary I remember seeing about the female hyperspace graphic designers animation input
so I am roughly on track I think just cant rem what diary it was or her name my bad
dear dev
i am like that with music too I can name songs or sing them in seconds of them playing but if you asked me who the song was by I would normally not have a scoobie
so don't be offended that I cant remember your name whoever you are but I have quite literally crossed the stars to admire your work;)

Yea if I miss the notification for the next star class, I can now tell if it's a red dwarf, brown dwarf, blue-white, neutron etc just by what's appearing at the end of the tunnel. So that part's accurate at least.

Yes, the destination star is represented correctly - been that way for a long while.

I suspect the 'tunnel' is just random. If it were in any way accurate then the jump times would need to be different (for different length jumps) which they are not as it's really just a loading screen.

Good point.

Then again space-time is being seriously warped so maybe time inside the cockpit wouldn't necessarily match travel time.
That being said, I'm no physicist, so...

And yea, it's still sci-fi so I'm not averse to a little handwavium.

As far as I can tell, the end star is derived from your actual end point.
The other 'tunnel' features are maybe 10-12 different graphic skyboxes being swept past you at random. These graphics are also rotated apparently randomly as well.
For example if you do the same jump repeatedly between 2 points, you'll see widely varying tunnel graphics.

Physicswise, if we were traveling approaching light speed (or 'in a bubble warping space' at that speed) we'd be running into photons before we normally would, and outrunning photons behind us (sort of). The entire 360 globe view around us would be compressed to a very bright point source of light directly ahead, which itself would shift to the blue, and then invisible as it hits UV, Xray, gamma ray, then cosmic ray spectrum as the wavelengths are compressed.
Basically, it'd be all black around us. Pretty dull.

Sci Fi hat on, I'd point out that it would be highly unlikely we'd be looking out WINDOWS anyway; the screens that look like windows would be seamless multifunction displays, so in hyperspeed transit, it could show whatever we wanted, default it would actually make sense to display the galactic starfield AS IF WE'RE MOVING THROUGH IT in say, a video game. :)
Or . Space is empty and the nights are long.

Love the hard science stuff. Thanx!
It's a bit like them giving us sounds in space. I read somewhere that the get-around in ED is that they equip the ships with artificial sound generation so pilots don't get disoriented. Kaaaay if you say so guys.

Seriously, just flying around with nothing but the engines screaming, weapon impacts, and the creaking of the air-frame would be pretty awesome.
They really should give the option.

mmm if inside a real spaceship whilst being attacked by lazer fire I imagine just the sound of the rapid expansion and contraction as it swept the hull would be utterly terrifying
as you watch silent deadly miss aimed beams striking out (not forgetting the sound of the resonance of the hz of the beam itself apon impact)
I vote optional and done very scientifically then tell me it don't work cause I know it does if done from a highly accurate what you would actually hear scenario right down to your own breathing and heartbeat if engines and power off (curbing actual db levels as wouldn't want deafness lawsuits after being hit)
still the sound in this game as is, is excellent none the less but could be taken to another level entirely with the right vison ;)

new npc messages optinal of course
can you please turn on your radio as I wanna hear you scream when I boil you up!

If you get disconnected while in hyperspace or get a big giant spike of lag, the animation goes on for waaaaaaay longer, and you'll pass by a lot more stars, wich makes no sense unless it was just random

Personally, I'd love space to be silent. ED is generally more hard sci-fi with no artificial g, physics based gravitation, reasonably generated star types, so I'd guess a lot of players would enjoy it as well. Thing is, I guess developers would still need to wave away things like messages from other systems taking seconds to reach you, the tyres on your SRV not evaporating on 900 K planets, etc. Got to draw a line somewhere. It's still a game.
