I tell ya, this game had better be good...

I am approaching 2000 euros, and have yet to buy an OR.

EUR
150 Pledge
140 Saitek X52
1580 gaming computer (good deal at my local computer store)
100 for a new desk (I now have two computers - so the kids will be able to use the old one, or risk losing their fingers if they touch the new one :))
1970 Total

I also want Voice Attack, but that might involve changing my (dutch language) windows 7 OS :( and that might bring extra costs.

PS. When does Beta start - I'm ready
If you just need an additional language pack, I think they were released a while back:

TRY HERE.

KS pledge 110
Upgrade to founder 50
Upgrade to Alpha 50

New PC I put together myself for it 1100
Joystick 30

So about 1350 GBP for me.

Although the new PC may be able to play SC and I spent 40 on that game for a basic ship. Although it is not guarenteed yet if my new powerful PC will actually run SC well on high settings but it will definatelty run well ED and LT on high settings.

Of course it is ED I am most excited about an am playing now.

Well all I've spent is £144. That's £100 on the Premium Beta which should be here within the next month to 6 weeks I think and £44 on a Fly 5 flight stick because I wasn't prepared to pay the asking price for an X52 pro even if they are very popular.

Well while waiting patiently for the premium beta to start properly tomorrow I've just realised that my investment in Elite Dangerous has just gone up to £335  I'm just glad that I am still single because spending that amount of money on a game, even one as wonderful as elite, would surely mean a very quick visit to the divorce court or me sleeping in the garden shed for a month :D

I'm less invested.

A mere:
£85 kickstarter pledge.
£15 to upgrade to premium beta.
£86 for a Saitek X52.

Being a PC master race gamer I already have a fairly decent PC, so no work was needed there

(I'm so impatient for beta I'm just posting loads atm...)

Add another £140 for TrackIR 5.... When will it end!

Edit: ... and I also feel a headset coming on for voice attack ( already bought that too, another 8 bucks to add to the total)

I too have backed Both Elite and SC.. (all of my prices are in American as I cant be ***** to do the conversion ) $150.00 for Elite.. $260.00 for SC. $65.00 upgrading to 16 gigs of ram.... $149.00 for Track IR.... $285 for a Full CH HOTAS + Pedals.... $440.00 for a Obutto Gaming seat.... $285 for a 27" monitor

Future purchases will include a 780Ti for ~ $550 USD.. and a $350.00 Oculus Rift.

so yeah, I spent some cash.. but as others have said.. change GAME to Hobby, and it all sounds much more reasonable. add in that i'm a retired widower and I can justify most anything now.

Edit.. yeah I almost forgot that small cost of $8.00 for Voice Attack.

DDF - £300

Still to come (leaving it as late as possible)

New rig - 4K
Triple Monitors - 1.5K
Joystick - £200
Custom Desk and Chair - £300

Lol alot of overkill imo. Even in conflict zones just one of my cards kicks out 120-150 fps and my cpu ~ 20%... thats everything maxed @ 1920x1080. And only 3gig of my 16 system ram utilised.

Get what you mean...

I am thinking no upgrade for a long time (at least with ED in mind), I think planetary landing and walking about is going to require more muscle than what cobra is demanding right now. I can also see ED being continuously improved over the next 10 years.

I did an expensive new build primarily for X Rebirth (don't laugh) and had invested £75 at the kickstarter stage.

So a new build plus KS. I added to that a new monitor (£310) and would have been rude not to add a new keyboard and mouse (£170), and then with Rebirth being Rebirth, I pumped the remaining amount to jump into Alpha (£125).

So, £2,488 later Im in the game with my old Track IR 4. I have my eyes on OR too though once it gets a full release...

Elite is an expensive game!

$150 - PB
$260 - x52 Pro + Track IR 5 + Shipping & Duty
$300 - Paddle + Shipping & Duty
$250 - Custom made cockpit
$1,550 - New Rig

Not disappointed so far :D

DDF and another alpha account for the GF, a couple of HOTAS, a few bits and bobs to add to my rig, worth every penny so far.

Also:
Elite is an expensive game!

It's not really expensive though, it's an experience :)

The sheer fun of tearing around asteroids in a Sidewinder, skimming rings in a Cobra, or laughing at Space Cows losing headbutting fights with stations - it's just extremely enjoyable.

Compare and contrast with pointing a mouse and click-to-win in some other parts of space. :)

Also - every time someone mentions Space Cows - I can't help but be reminded of the Space Cow from Clangers.

Ahhhhh

I adore the Clangers, I watched some eps on DVD recently. ;) I always think of that when I hear Space Cows as well.

I'm not updating any hardware, I'm sticking to my 3 year old i7 laptop :)

I saved over 1100 compared to OP, while still getting a kickass setup and a premium beta.

'Cause I bought a PC, and not a Mac.

(just for reference, 800€ PC, 120€ monitor, 30€ joystick, 80€ panel, 120€ premium beta. Total, 1120€)
