I’d like more commanders in the Open

I might be waiting a while for what? PVP fights? Between Shinrarta, San Tu, Deciat and Borann I never have to wait for a fight. Just a few hours ago before I got off I went out to find someone to fight with my new FDL build and found one in seconds. PvP on PC is boomin compared to even the most peak times I ever saw on xbox.
No, a police wing like you asked for.

In a game with only one NPC difficulty setting, where combat is only one of the three paths to an Elite rank (and the other two don't require the player to fire a shot in combat), there are going to be outliers at each end of the skill distribution who find it too easy/hard.
yeah but its not though. Harmless NPC's aren't as hard as an elite spec ops wing or a Thargoid Medusa. Wing assassination missions used to be a lot of fun before Frontier decided to nerf them for some unknown reason. Why can't there be some kind of elite ranked mission where I have to take on a wing of 4 engineered, elite corvettes? Why have a crazy level of engineering I can achieve but no content to use it against?

To be fair the wing assination mission can be challenging, but your point is valid all the same, and frontier has this strict rule that you have to go looking for trouble.

oh, I'm not asking for one I'm just questioning why there are basically none when there are players constantly complaining about gankers. I know why, it was a bit of a rhetorical question. Frontier sucks and doesn't know how or care to make content for all of their players is the point I'm making.

One thing I believe no one in here will disagree with is that having systems such as Deciat full of people trying to prey on the unaware is not healthy for Open. It goes way beyond 'people should know better', 'dealing with it' or 'learning from one's mistake'. It's very easy for a new player to be put off by such events and just decide to avoid open for a long time, or indefinitely.

I like that PvPers exist and that space is dangerous, but game mechanic should support both sides. I bring this up often as I quite like the way this is handled in EvE. Secure systems actually feel secure (with some exceptions, but that's a topic for another time). So people who want to PvP hang around low or no security systems. At the same time, the developers put some worthwhile content in those systems, so that people actually have an incentive to get there and risk an encounter with someone who may kill them.

What we have, instead, only promotes animosity. Security level is a joke and there is little to no reason to go to a low security or anarchy system, other than passing through on your way to some other place.

Agreed: the tier 1 engineers should all be in high sec systems that also provide security escorts or at least a level of security that makes ganking not worth it. Bounties should also be much higher.

What they could do is have ATR units patrol high security systems - so ganking in places like Sol, Deciat and Shinrarta Dezhra would result in heavily engineered security dropping in within ten seconds, even if the attacker has 0 notoriety. Medium and low security systems could stay the same. Right now all security level indicates is the amount of time it takes security to arrive - this definitely needs to change. Another major factor that hurts PvP is the magic "disappear from any danger in 15 seconds" button.

I don't think it has any effect and if new players get ganked in Deciat and it puts them off, so be it. Gankers in Deciat is a direct result of Frontier no longer doing community goals and abandoning the PvP community all together. And personally I think they deserve the loss in player base for what they've done to all of us, not just the pvpers.

Also, since I'm fairly fresh on PC I've been going to Deciat quite often in ships of every kind and have only had one gank attempt against me. This idea that an unarmed player can never fly there in open is ridiculous and over exaggerated.

Fdev really have abandoned the Open/PvP community. CGs, and Powerplayers being perfect case studies of it.

So he couldn't get where he needed to go. He asked a friend for help. I worked. Seems like exactly what should have happened. Wheres the problem??

E-peeners are just desperate for some action. They have the choice of involving themselves in a 15 minute game of spin the spaceship with another fully google-fit, Guardian modded and engineered fap-ship. Or just kill on sight.

Be smart. Call on help when needed. Fly safe. Fdev doesn't need to protect anyone anymore. Most of the systems they have in place just make things worse.

There is a much bigger issue for newer players. I have 4 new players I'm helping. They want to compete and fight these guys. They cant. They have countless hours of grinds to even get something close to competitive.

Fdevs inability to give the players the freedom to play in the sandbox is just created grind based content and pushing accessibility for noobs beyond their patience.

I was lucky. I started in Alpha. Before engineers. When everything was nicely balanced.

For the last 3 years on Xbox there were about 15-20 people from my friends list that were always on Elite. In the past 8 months in particular there are maybe 2 or 3.

I understand that there needs to be plenty of content for the casuals and they make up more than half of the player base but the hardcore and PvP community are the ones that actually stick around forever and are at the heart of any player base and they way Frontier has treated us is absolutely unacceptable. I'm not saying every update needs to be centered around PvP but give us something for **** sake. It's no wonder this game is full of gankers, they're bored and have nothing else to do and Frontier took away the only thing that even slightly kept them busy by no longer doing CG's.

I don't agree with the engineer grind part. I just switched to PC and went from Sidewinder to 10 ships including 3 fully engineered PvP ships in less than 3 weeks with literally zero help from another player. I did come from Xbox where I had 2000 hours logged so I already knew exactly what to do and the fastest way to do it all but in less than a month I've unlocked every engineer except Lori Jameson and the Colonia engineers.

It is grossly exaggerated, agreed, but I do take issue with the part of your statement that I bolded. Decreasing player base hurts all of us and no player deserves to be the object some people vent their frustration on. Besides, I call bull on the argument that people are only doing this because they are bored due to a lack of CGs. As far as I can tell, this has been happening for about as long as Felicity has been in Deciat.

If we, as a community, want to keep pointing the finger at FD for all of the game's misfortunes, we must be better than them.

Given that CGs and Powerplay are pan-modal features, it's not so much that those who prefer to play in Open have been "abandoned" - more that the game was not designed to revolve around them in the first place.

That's ridiculous and way too much. It took me like 15 minutes to outfit one before 2.1

Cmon dude. How many hours did that take? Its . Not to mention Guardian trash. Then when they finally fully teach their google fits out. They get to enjoy flipping around in space for 15 minutes slapping helplessly at another uber fit ship. Gathering mats and doing chores isn't fun. But you have a game build for carebears with no player interaction or loss. So, it's the best thing we get to occupy our time... seriously.

Its lame. I like engineers and the option to customize my modules. But its pretty OP. These guardian modules just make it worse. They need to buff damage or nerf defense. Maybe both. Idk. That's not something I'm going to pretend to understand.

Everytime I actually accept an interdiction from an epeener. We end up just twirling around for 5 minutes with no progress made. Then I leave bored and go steal some diamonds (for what end idk).

I cant stress it enough. This is what happens when you have a game of this magnitude and dont have any player driven content. There is nothing Fdev can do. Their game design is what it is. It's a solo game that people sometimes inject themselves into.

And I've gone to Deciat about 100 times. I have 4 new player that have been there on multiple occasions... 1 gank.

Rich environment indeed.

I think this may be my biggest gripe with engineering, besides the grind. Fighting an unengineered ship feels like cheating, while fighting another fully engineered ship takes forever and kinda takes any joy out of it. I always imagined dogfights in space as a much more fast paced and frantic affair.
