Does anyone read all the manual? It's a bit like a camera manual .... handy when the camera doesn't work, but ......
I do care.
I would like to ask you what it is you want, in Elite. If your answer is "To have the biggest ship and every module godly engineered" then yes. Quit.
But if your answer is "To pilot a ship in stunningly made universe, doing what ever I want" then I let you in on a secret - you can do THAT in a Sidewinder.
But I suspect it is the former, in which case all I have to say is - try not to live your life like you played this game. o7 commander.
No, it doesn't. Some of us have been asking for a warning for at least three years*. Not because we feel players need hand-holding for every decision, but because flying without cover carries arguably the most potentially catastrophic consequence in the game, especially in the early-mid-game where a player could have hundreds of hours logged but is still likely to have their assets tied up in a single expensive ship and cargo....Does the game ever actually tell you the consequences of flying without insurance? I'm pretty sure that is another trial and error aspect of the game that the player needs to find out for themselves.
Exactly. I don't understand it. It's almost as though FD enjoys the bad PR. Every few weeks there's one of these threads with the inevitable Pareto ratio of responses; 20% sympathetic and 80% dogpiling. It's not a good look for the community or for the game. Not necessarily saying that is a bad thing, but it is a design decision that is spread right throughout the game, and it is starting to show and cause more and more issues.
You must be looking for the Altruism sub-forum. It’s kind of hard to find. You gotta know a guy...Page upon page of people replying to an OP that isnt even in the thread anymore,i suppose with so many people with such important opinions we should have to hear them all.
Such smug, much hate for the guy. This forum is full of very unfriendly people who like to tell others how to live their lives but yet can barely contain there anger when they see something they dont like. Its toxic.
I'll never understand why people grind for hundreds of hours, never bother to learn even the basics of the game, only to complain they spend hundreds of hours grinding while not understanding the basics of the game. Has free will gone out of vogue or something? :S
Nope it was to have fun exploring and fighting stuff. Nope you def can't do that in a sidewinder. It took me way to many transport runs to get a ship big enough to do anything. You cant take a sidewinder, and go do combat, or exploration. You can't even jump very far in a sidewinder.
Lol live life like this game, get out of here. Insurance doesn't work like that at all, not even close. No one gives some one a 100 million dollar anything for 10 percent. It should be you buy the insurance before hand, and if you lose it you get it back, not this stupid way. I didn't even realise how that worked till it was to late, because there was 0 chance of dying in what i did.
You def didn't care, you just wanted to make fun of me so stop your nonsense.
You are right if i knew if i died I would have to start from starch i wouldn't of did it. But there is no way I am grinding another 200 hours to get it back.

Elite is less forgiving than EVE Online, because you are not protected by an invincible galactic wide police force, and you can run out of fuel. there is no autopilot, fancy computer to fly your ship for you, no spreadsheets, no "safespace" like high-sec, no station trading. no "leveling up skills" to "get better", you actually have to use your brain to be good at this game.
Not to mention the UI and camera system is garbage, and plays like a MUD with a 3D screensaver in the background. nothing but windows, zoomed out x300, right clicking.

In the original Elite, until you could afford an escape pod, if your ship blew up you were perma-dead. It was Ironman, and it took a while to get good enough at the game to reach the escape pod upgrade. Iirc the only way around this was to use cassette tape saves (which for some reason I could never get to work reliably - I had to leave my Speccy switched on for a whole week just to get to Dangerous).
