What is the rationale behind the recommendation, Para? Are there significant implications of which a noob might be unaware?

He might be saying that powerplay as a mechanic is not for everyone. I found it not to be very profitable and gave it up quite quickly. When you leave that faction, you can't rejoin another for a week or so. If you do then they go all murder, death, kill on you. Also you'll be marked as hostile in certain systems and get interdicted by random NPCs which is not what you want when trying to find your first home.

Hi there! I'm a new player to the game who just joined at the start of the new year. I'm looking for people to play the game with, and interact. Still trying to figure out exactly the type of group I'm interested in, but I can definitely detail my interests.
I'm a enthusiast for exploration, and discovery. In the very short time I've been playing, I've been fascinated and drawn in wonder of all the mysteries out there, and the discoveries that have been made. It has lead me further and further into the rabbit hole. Wanting to see and be part of the galactic events has lead me to already venture all the way out to the Pleiades Nebula to assist with the rescue operations at the damaged space stations. I enjoy PVE content and not particularly keen on PVP. As of yet, I've not decided on an allegiance to any of the major powers or if I will do so. So far, I've merely a curious interest in the Alliance. Groups very immersed in the universe, or research enthusiasts could certainly be of interest to me.
This has been an interesting week, and I look forward to meeting people!

When you know about being marked "hostile" and other effects, then you can make a decision whether to take part by pledging. My remark was that one shouldn't decide to try to qualify for a PP weapon or shields or whatever until you are conversant with the implications of taking part.

My group has a good following on PS4 for the US time zones. All quite active and this weeks CG is only a jump away from the system we currently call home. Everyone is pretty hyped for 3.0 especially since we might be getting our very own faction in game to expand and conquer with.
