And what if the game code detects a lack of connectivity to the ad servers?
Frontier < EA < Satan
Although it worries me a little I do not believe for a second that David Braben will let his magnum opus get maimed by immersion destroying advertisements.
Does anybody?

What some people need to realise is that FD have to make money SOMEHOW to keep the servers running, and as they're a commercial company with shareholders, make a profit too.
So far, there has been indignation expressed at:
Micro-transactions
In-game advertising
Subscriptions
If these ideas are so abhorrant, then suggest a better alternative.
And no, future expansions will not cover it - because they cost money to make in the first place.
Nobody is forcing us to do anything of the sort. I realise that doesn't stop some people but I see that as their problem rather than mine.Well, unfortunately the fact they aren't saying anything at all about it rather forces us to speculate and draw our own conclusions.
In the station hanger there are some very subtle billboards that the ship passes.. these are currently advertising made up brands, however I assume these would be the type of in game advertising once replaced with real brands.
I find them harmless as they are placed where you would expect in-station adverts to potentially be.

They also get money from the sales of the game. Whilst I'll have no doubt that retail box sets will be available in the shops I'd suspect they'll sell a lot via digital downloads which means Mr middleman isn't taking such a huge cut. Its perhaps early days but if they sold 1 million copies thats a lot of money too.
if there was 'real' advertising, i'd like it to be a bit jokey tbh
"mcdonalds - the taste of the past" or "even though cows have been extinct for 500 years, our burgers still taste the same"
"take 2 bottles into the sonic shower?..........."
"want to get that bluey-whiteness back into your flight suit, you need ......"
"had an accident on the mission? not your fault? the galactic justice squad can get you 100% compensation!!"
ofc DFS would still be having a half price sale
