Issue Tracker: Planetary Tiling

Odyssey releases. Share prices fall dramatically. Frontier pulls in the purse strings.
i think this game requires alternative methods of funding.

No, it will sunset in the near future, so no need to worry about what might be, could be, or should be.
It doesn't need anything bar being put to rest, which is surely happening sooner rather than later.

At that time those who have proclaimed the game is 'doomed' will be able to pat themselves on the back and utter "See, I was right!" and finally rest in peace... Or, more likely, save up to buy another game where the same performance can be replayed :ROFLMAO:

apparently fdev are deleting the issues so that someone is freed up to go finish the panther clipper and create a storyline for the dark wheel

What worries me, is that you may very well be correct. I don't want them to kill my favourite game, but that's exactly what seems to be happening. :(
FDEV as a whole will (already has?) recover(ed?) from the EDO disaster, but I'm afraid E: D will not.
I hope I'm wrong, and there's still will to get the mess sorted so that E: D survives.

It does appear that way - and the ongoing attitude of "no tell" by Frontier does nothing to negate the opinion.

I have the impression that EDO, after almost a year of patching, is not bringing in new players / existing 'upgraders' in any number, and still excludes, very effectively, those with less powerful PCs. Consoles are no longer a concern, but from comments on this forum 'potato PCs' might well be.

Time will tell, is all.

Honestly, for a lark I gave EDO a try this week on my vastly below min spec laptop + the most basic and completely free GFnow service. 60 FPS almost constantly in the tutorial, lows at 50fps. High settings, 1080p. For a tenner a month I could play this, and all my other games, in ultra on an ancient crap laptop with onboard GPU and shared 8GB memory. I could even play it on my tablet or phone in ultra, or cast it to my TV and pretend I have a console with EDO.

Seems FD is doing cost benefit analysis on customer whims and on this subject. Its like the top 20 issues being populated with other game breaking things like 'data for motion platforms'- how is that important? Why is / was it at number 4?

I'd much rather FD sort out the massive list of bugs and inconsistencies the actual game has, not to mention make better use of its features like the BGS.

I'd guess, if a player is already paying for GFnow, that is a superb solution! (and the same for any other modern game that is a little resource heavy too)

Because the issue tracker is based on what people vote for, and only small numbers of people vote, so any orchestrated effort makes it to the top? If a popular youtube rants we need coffee cup holders in all ships than that will be the most urgent thing on the list. The entire thing is daft, see no reason at all to bother with it.

And yet FDEV want all bugs reported there. Yes, it is daft - be it intentional or not, only they know.

If you meant only the voting, that's true.

Horizons generation was superior. I can only guess why they introduced it this way - maybe performance. In any case a copy-paste galaxy with 500 billion stars that produces same results over and over again - I see even less point in that than the original one (which I think is way too oversized - especially considering the way travelling is handled). Looking at Odyssey and it's performance I'm not sure if it really paid off to degrade the planet generation like that.
In any case, I think it was the right call to be honest about it and clearly state what's about to be done with it.

Nature doesn't always follow the "classic" (conical) symmetric shape from the picture books, or even like Mount Fuji.
Mount St Helens blew the side out of the mountain, not the top ..

The hole is misaligned.

Let's say - just for a moment - the next step after ED release (galaxy generated), Horizons (galaxy was regenerated) then Odyssey (galaxy re-generated again) is thicker atmospheres and a further update to Stellar Forge and the galaxy regenerated again. IF that's the case - and it is the direction of travel so far - why would spending resource on fixing a relatively minor issue in Odyssey make sense, if you know relatively soon all that work will get wiped clean by a Stellar Forge update and your bug fix get's overwritten. I can say for sure, that if it was me I would be looking to fix (minor) tiling issues during a Stellar Forge update, not in the period preceding one.
Yes, randomness is good in generation. Keeps things fresh. Planetary feature tiling doesn't, however.

i think this game requires alternative methods of funding.

They should release a Housing DLC or an Arx version of it
Where people get to build planetary bases - based on the current (or slightly modified) settlement designs
Yes, almost useless, almost cosmetics like, planetary bases - maybe they could add some extra storage capabilities attached to that base (cargo and/or engineering materials extra storage) but nothing game breaking.

Minimal investment in dev, they could get some money in the process to keep funding Odyssey

That would also be quite fun to do.

And hopefully FD will get rid of it leaving room for real problems.

Or, more likely, when you buy a VR set and the power monster needed specifically for a game, you must be one of the people most concerned with the game. So it should not be a surprise that VR players are over-represented.

Are you serious ?

Well... if it's any consolation, there's no longer a need to visit every planet in galaxy to see everything the engine had to offer. A few hundred worlds in the bubble is enough to do the trick.

Has anyone pasted the same picture that has been pasted a thousand times to show how bad it is, while totally ignoring the 99% of other planets where its not even noticeable unless you spend 20 minutes staring at the screen?
Nah, these days they don't even post the picture, all the people not playing EDO just know that's what every planet is like.

Meanwhile, in the real world, it's really quite good. 🤷‍♂️
