Hi there

I'm new to Elite Dangerous - just bought it in the Steam sale. I've done the new user training and am currently heading out into the galaxy to see what I can find. I think I'd like to get into combat, although I've only got a sidewinder right now. I'm hoping to buy a better ship (Cobra?) pretty soon. Not sure what the allegiances really mean in the game so independent seems like a good fit to me. Do you think it would be ok for me to join you?

I am also new to the game (sale this week) and looking for a wing/squadron to join. I attempted to explore a bit in my little Sidewinder and got pretty far from the start point and started to realize I might be over my head after jumping to a few systems without ports.
