Finally, when the NPC AI developer states on these forums that she is having difficulties handling the negativity, it comes off a bit sad. Its not negativity, but involved players broken hopes and dreams.

Great post but this part really irked me. They've taken over £12,000,000 ($17,000,000) for the game already and she's getting her knickers in a twist because she did a bad job? Has she seen how easy the AI are? Did she just take the code from the original Elite and slap it into ED? Since these concerns were raised in Beta, why has this game been released in the state that it is??

Isn't the Beta there to work out these issues before you release the game at full AAA price to the customer? Why was it released when there were obvious flaws. Elite Anaconda's are a joke, just read the forums. People were saying this weeks after release but didn't someone say the company went public?

So glad the shareholders she works for are getting rich off our money.

To sell your T-6 for a Viper and have a little fun.

Stop caring about better ships. Stop caring about cargo space or credits. Start playing.
Does it not strike you as remarkably sad that the only in-game way to get combat difficulty to scale is to deliberately nerf yourself?

Cutting down the mightiest tree in the forest with a herring is a fabulous concept for off-the-wall comedy. It doesn't, however, make for great gameplay, especially when the game has you drowning in chainsaws after a week or so's on and off play.

I never heard or knew about Elite Dangerous until the day it was released in Dec.16th. I may add I like SciFi and games, but I am not the pew pew gamer. The game has to be intellectually challenging for me, and more often than not, it needs to allow me to be creative. With that being said, I have played some games that others in here would consider boring, boring, boring -just yesterday I was mentioning in another threat about FSX and how I love spending 10 hrs of clouds, clouds, clouds!~

Anyways guys, when I came here I found out all this community, and that wonderful game. I found out that its been going for months, at least the beta, gamma and etc.

As a total newbie, I want to tell you: THIS GAME IS @%&!@ INCREDIBLE. It has done great things and its been crafted magnificently. But at the same time, I'm gonna tell you this: MANY OF YOU KILLED THIS GAME WHEN REQUESTING OR OPTING FOR SOLO MODE.

That is, in my eyes, the single worst decision of it all. I call to your common sense here: There is no way, in heaven, space or black holes, that FD could have fleshed out a +400 billion star galaxy without HUMANS!! The game needs HUMANS to bring it to life!! And at this point in history, I don't wanna hear it from anybody, I don't care if you are coming from the 1984's or if you have been following Elite before the Beatles, I don't care if you are in an igloo in the Artic, or that your FPS drops because you are still in dial up...this game should have never allow people to play by themselves! It is the Internet era!! No one play by themselves any more!!! Why so??? when I can connect with millions of people everywhere that share my same likes!!! It is 2015! Get with the program!

It should be only internet because people are going to be the variable themselves, the surprise, the creativity...allow economy so they can interchange credits, hire others, create services, own stations, show off things to others, or create groups and gangs...let it be police of space, and scoundrels, and celebrities, and gangsters....let it be a world of possibilities...only humans can provide that...not NPC's...I know, I know the sandbox is not completed...but will be, I hope...

The idea is beautiful, honestly...the world needs more games this challenging...but sometimes seems like we are in a society drunk with expectations of instant gratification for almost not effort, no patience, no involvement...the disease of the millenials...we all grew up knowing that we are "special"....now we better win the game in hours...cause there is a game to win, right??

We all know the game needs baking...FD I think has said there are things to come, so I think they know it too...no reminders needed....then why so many threads against it?? All of these threads point to obvious things we know are failing but also makes me question: are you guys not expecting something that is not supposed to be expected??? Alas is just a game...not a life changer....

Go watch a video from Isinona, the FAO Master, or from explorer Erimus....my God, what an inspiration! Showing how the galaxy looks from the other side!!....That's the beauty of the human mind! The creativity of using what's available to create something of value or at least, entertaining... This is given to you....what do you do with it!? Credits??

I for one, get a lot of relax, and learn a lot while playing...and in my dictionary, that's called a game. And regardless of all the flaws, real or invented, this is a very good one. I'll stick to it and help while I can.

I concur with you wholeheartedly. Have some rep Commander.

The game contains precisely what I was lead to believe it would contain, and I thoroughly enjoy playing it daily. I do this while patiently looking forward to what the future may bring in the form of patches and updates/expansions.

Does that make me a liar, or am I hiding behind something?

Don't bother replying, I won't be able to read it.

Just so everyone ELSE is clear, sicne your too high and mighty :)

The game was sold as something much more than what it is now. Watch Braben's personal videos. The Frontier youtube channel, as well as any DDA or backers forums with dev interaction.

Wheres the famines? The station building? The inflatible stations? the reputation mission system? Why is open and solo so unbalanced with their pk bounty system? ... etc etc

Every time I see a thread like this, I hope to see the little red icon indicating a comment from a Frontier staff member or board moderator. 99% of the time, there is not a single comment. How are we supposed to feel when they seemingly have so much disdain for us they can't even respond? The more time goes by, the more I get the feeling of a "take the money and run" situation from Frontier.

Do these guys actually know what they are doing, or are most of you so blinded by nostalgia to notice they may not be competent enough to make games more complex than Kinectmals?

Perhaps the reason they don't reply is because they know the future of ED and know we're going to hate it. So keep your mouth shut is a better option, that way they'll get a few more sales of their next DLC ;)

Ahhh I remember being young .....

I'm sure you can connect to millions of people that share you same likes and what not on "fan" sites for whatever you are into, but no multiplayer isn't the be all end all. A lot of us have lives outside of the internet, with jobs and families and paying for our teenage kids fanfests so sometimes we just want to log on and log off without "connecting" with anyone else. I don't need you to make my game fun. This is not to say I wouldn't be happy if they put a more EvE like backbone in, but I don't NEED that either. Even with multiplayer you need stuff to do beyond that.

Multiplayer vrs Solo did NOTHING to hurt elite at this point because THERE ISN'T CONTENT FOR EITHER beyond the bare bones. You can wax poetic all you like but direction isn't the problem.

This is difficult isn't it? I don't think anyone wants developers to be push-overs, that would lead no where but down, but at what point does not-being-a-push-over transition into putting-fingers-in-ears-and-screaming-I-can't-hear-you-la-la-la-la-la!!!

I would find it much easier to support strong willed developers if I had some idea what they are doing and planning; if I could actually see the vision guiding them. Right now I have David Braben's advertised vision, what is supposedly meant to be the manifestation of that vision, and a bunch of developers refusing to acknowledge that anything is wrong while seemingly following some kind of grand plan that does not mesh up with the advertised vision. This makes me feel confused and I don't like feeling confused.

Yes you want devs that have a vision but they really need to show us a

ROAD MAP!!!!

Already in google if you write "Elite Dangerous is" there's 2 negative auto suggestions.... :(

From my point of view, Frontier killed what could have been the best space sim ever by making it online only. Just like much of what made the new SimCity one of the worst iterations of the franchise were design decisions done to allow the game to be playable in an online, connected way — which went so "well" the main feature now listed for the complete version of the game is that it can now be played offline.

I still have some hope. If an offline mode is provided, either officially or by players reverse-engineering the communication protocols, the modding community can then step up and make this game the successor Elite deserves. But currently this game is only a shadow of what it could be, and all the limitations meant to allow it to be online (such as the hard restriction on not allowing either time compression or pausing) are grievously harming the experience.

Oh dear....

Arrived onto our TS server yesterday to find half the people on the server playing another game. Made me smile.
The worst showing in a good while too, active players down by 70%.
What ever this illness is, its catching.

I hope it makes a full recovery soon and comes back with a bang.

Just going to put in my two cents. I paid $75 for the game in Beta. Played it for somewhere around 60-80 hours probably. Maybe more. Enjoyed most of those - murdering people with a dumbfire viper was great, trading was alright in a eurotruck simulator sort of way, exploration was pretty, and bounty hunting is fun.

Got my moneys worth, I can put it down and pick it up again later when they add challenging content to make Elite: Dangerous actually dangerous. Until then, I can pick it up whenever I feel like it. As far as $75 goes, it was alright, if given the choice I'd probably buy it again.

One example of content lacking, is I really was expecting at release that the founders system and the SOL system to be looking very significantly different to other systems, with many truly unique and not derivative space structures.

Pinning my hopes on planetary landings...

Can anyone explain how planetary landings are going to make a difference? Once you have landed on them, then what? How does this add gameplay content? Are you wowed by space station landings anymore? No? Well PL's aren't go to be that special after the first hundred are they?

They're going to be a nice additional feature, but gameplay content they are not going to be unless we're talking proper aerodynamics, landing patterns, etc and even then I doubt it.

Does anybody remember the ones in Frontier where the gravity was so strong it crushed you? lol

They probably won't. The could, but I guess they won't. In FFE they had a purpose in that you tracked assassination targets over weeks and light years and could land outside the station and try and get them taking off. Or you could drop mining drones.

if they are just a cut scene landing with no unique content to make it worthwhile then it'll just be another disappointment.

But hopefully Frontier know that and have a few aces up their sleeves.

The thing is, I'm not looking for this discussion. Some people get bored after a dozen systems of exploring, some don't. The issue I have with your and BigCheese's posts is that you're treating your opinion as fact. Might be the case for a lot of people, but it's also not the case for a lot of people. The discussion then breaks down to: my opinion and idea of fun is better and more important than yours, and frankly, I decline.

If the feller I replied to shares your opinion, he'll tell me: I have tried that also no fun and that will be that. If all he has been going for is trading to upgrade ship and cargospace, a change of scenery might be welcome. Worst case scenario is a failed suggestion.

I hear this argument a lot and yet no further information is coming.

What else is there to do - please, list the things you can do then we can actually have a discussion about it rather than this vague explanation that there are things to do!

Sympathising with both viewpoints...

I feel in a similar way to this, though I understand where the OP is coming from (and more on this in a moment). I backed at Premium Beta level, and TBH, I had my money's worth before it even hit the official release in December.

I am still having fun, but I can see myself getting to the point where the OP is in a few months time. But, isn't this the same with ANY game when you play it almost exclusively for a year ? I didn't play the original Elite forever, or Frontier etc. and the various ports to other platforms.

I honestly don't want to be as hooked as I have been over the past year, but I do look forward to new features as they become available.

There are a couple of things I feel FD could change very easily that would dramatically improve the game for me:-

  • Increase the number of interdictions in Anarchy and Feudal systems, and make some of these interdictions by more than one ship.
  • Make trade profits to Anarchy and Feudal systems significantly higher than the other systems to reflect the fact that they don't often have anything to take back, and to compensate for the higher risk (see above).
  • For the community goals, let's have the building of new major stations in anarchy systems have the potential to change the political climate to a dictatorship or some other 'safer' government, and for this to be fiercely opposed by NPC ships; ie. high boom, high risk, high rewards.
  • So far most "balancing" has meant nerfing weapons. This generally lengthens combat encounters and makes it more likely you can run if you want. This is not as exciting as in the earlier betas when weapons were more powerful. It's gone too far, please increase the weapon strength for players and NPCs

I play in a group of 1,300 members. There's about 4 people on TS at the moment. Might go up to 20 player later but not a massive amount.

I'm a kickstarter backer, Prem beta, have probably around 2,000 posts on the forum since Kickstarter. I've logged in once for 10 minutes in the last month, just can't be bother playing.
I wish it wasn't the case.

In the future I predict (Unless FD really turn things around quickly)
FD releasing updates in the same glacial pace they have since Alpha started which does not address the issues with the game quick enough.
Player numbers to drop significantly over the next 6 months (they've started to already if our group is anything to go by)
Small upticks in player numbers for short periods when new updates release for the first few updates
An attempt to sell more stuff on the store to help FD financially that will go down like a lead balloon
The expansions are cancelled due to issues with implementing into the game (too hard)/not being enough of a money spinner as hardly anyone plays the game anymore.
A big kerfuffle around refunds for expansion passes that FD will try and weedle out of.
Servers turned off due to not making enough money to continue/not enough players playing.
FD go back to producing licensed games for consoles
FD never get another penny from me ever again.

Hope this isn't the case and FD turn things around but IMO they're not getting it, they're sticking their fingers in their ears regards the issues players have, they're not addressing the major issues players have in a timely manner, they keep saying they will do things and then either not doing them or doing the bare minimum. In fact that's something I think that sums up ED very well currently. Elite:Bare Minimum.

Why spend ur time on the forum of a game u do not wanna log into?

Better find a game u like then, right ?

And let the ppl who like elite play it.

Well that post was the first post in months too, mainly due to people like yourself that can't abide any criticism of their precious thing.

Also I'm at work so cannot play the game.

Additionally, maybe just maybe I actually want the game to be better and be all it can be rather than the bare minimum.
