Just don't feel like logging in...

I'm reaching the same point as the OP as well. Shame as I really had high hopes for this game. As far as other games are concerned, I still play and love Civ 4! Banished is another game I'm enjoying at present, which was developed by one person only!

I must admit I'm not sure about ED at the moment.

This isn't a "bye, I'm outta here, toys-thrown-outta-pram-door-slammed" good bye. I'm just bemused about the game, and don't much feel like playing it right now.

To set a scene: Beta backer. Played a bit, not too much, wanted to see where it would go. Played a little Gamma, thought there would be a wipe, didn't have much time to play once I'd realised there wasn't, so started on the 16th with approx the same as everyone else. Now sitting on about 200M/cr, courtesy of a t9 and a hefty time spent trading.

I've done some mining, bounty hunting, smuggling and trading. I've not played 12 hour days. I've mostly played 1-2 hours a day, on the days I have played. I haven't exactly spent every waking moment in the game. I say this to illustrate that I'm not "burned out".

I just....don't see the point right now.

Trading is a grind, and I've done quite a lot of it, and no longer enjoy it.

Fair enough, do something else.

But what?

Here is some feedback. Two points:

1) The first MAJOR issue that I have with ED is that there's no point to any of it, no goals beyond what you set yourself. And that's like looking down at your kitchen floor and deciding you will spend the next hour deliberately stepping on every corner of every tile, as a self-imposed objective, and calling it fun. It's a kitchen sandbox where you can play the way you want to play. Which is fun. Right.

So I set myself an objective to hit 200Mcr. Done that. It allows me to buy pretty much any ship in the game (excluding the 'Conda, really) and play it. But play it to do what?

I don't want to BH. It's pew pew without a purpose.
I don't feel an urge to explore. There's 400 billion uncharted stars out there, and when I've finished exploring them for hours, scanning the same old stuff again and again, there'll still be 400 billion uncharted stars out there (plus or minus a few).
I don't feel an urge to mine. No, that's not true. I've done some mining. I feel an urge to go and clean my kitchen before I do any more mining. Ever.
I don't want to be a jerk and turn pirate.
I've been-there-done-that on trading.
I deliberately haven't pursued naval mission ranks because there is no content there. I thought I would wait to see what story missions and rank content will (eventually, ultimately, many, many updates from now) be introduced, and enjoy playing them when they are. There is no value to be had in the ranks (as I see it) at this point, so no point playing the missions. I don't need a Clipper. I might get one anyway, but go no further. Perhaps. If I can be bothered.

I want some MISSIONS (that have a point and aren't repetitive drivel). I want a STORY (at least a skeleton of one). I want a PURPOSE.

And ED doesn't really have any of that.

And poorly implemented "community missions" or landing on planets won't give it any, either.

2) The second MAJOR issue that I have with ED is that it actually all feels a bit false. A bit of a lie. A bit of under-delivered promises and smoke-and-mirrors to cover holes.

Players do NOT have influence (e.g. Lugh) - FDev had to add that in after the event when there was an outcry that nothing had happened.
Players' rep activities do NOT influence environments. Much testing has been done.
Players' trading activities do NOT influence the market.
NPCs play to different rules (e.g. FSD under mass lock)
NPCs turn up in stations where there were none before...
NPCs turn up in random cruise-dropouts in mining belts where there were none before...

....it's all a bit cheaty. A bit botched. A bit....crap, really.

Basically, the ED world exists irrespective of whatever we, the players, do within it. So what's the point of doing anything?

In before

TL;DR

Like many others, I'd love ED to be successful. But, to be successful, it has to be a whole lot more than it currently is.

More content.
More soul.
More polish.
More interaction.

Right now, it falls a very, very long way short of that.

Right now, it simply isn't fun to play.

A.

P.s. Awesome sounds though. Best sounds in-game evaaa.

Hello fellow commander’s

Good morning

I’d like to start off by saying I to started playing Elite dangerous back in 1984…….Wow that was a long time ago

…………I sit and contemplate my age for a few seconds “wow how 14 turns into 45 goes so FAST” any way my reply
to this post is with a heavy heart as I REALLY wanted to enjoy this game. I know we all had our own expectations
how the game should have been and how close the hardworking developer’s, designer’s, game balancers………..wait
hold there for just a sec we as beta backers went through reset after reset helping balance the game before the last
reset and we all felt good about the launch day.

Do you know what I find myself playing today after devoting about 1500++ hours to elite dangerous, yes I was almost
happy with the way it was balanced @ release, now I’m playing *Kerbal Space program* yes that right the little guy with big head.

Let me tell you why. One word “Content”

Elite dangerous………..shortfalls.

1. Whiners…….. about the game that don’t take the time to learn how to play the way it was meant to be played and CRIED ……………Balance the game
“ I can't kill a Python in my Sidewinder”……..Please really I mean REALLY you could if you had more sidewinders together.

2. Trading……..HMMM where do I go from here I like to order a Python, Cobra, oh and a Anaconda on the side
check please 900,000,000,000 and then the short fall ‘’’--__ I only make 1,000,000.00 per hour and can play for about 3 hours a day that’s
3,000,000.00 per day and I can only play four days per week that’s 12,000,000.00 so far, wow I’m tired of trading lets go blow something
up……Boom I’m dead…….. Good by -3,000,000 in insurance that cost me a day yes a full 3 hour day of trading gone forever. “Mike cry’s”

3. Mining………ZZZZZZZZZZ……….open’s one eye…………ZZZZZZZZZZ doc I think he went into A coma.

Fixes for the three above “short falls”

1. Learn to be less whiny and have more structure to your complaint, or just leave.

2. Make it fun………. Hide a few nest eggs of opportunity to make some good hard fast credits so we don’t mind losing a few ships
or credits BUFF UP, not down the ships cost A LOT the parts cost A LOT “millions” that or bring the prices down on the
ship’s and the parts I don’t have 8 hours to play a day.

3. ZZZZZZ…………open eyes and yawns………. And blurts out Mineral scanners tractor beams…………we are not farmers.

“Make it fun” “make it unforgettable” “make it RIGHT”

And I may come back. [0]_[0]

Commander Ironbear
Thank you and God bless……. See you in the verse 0_ -

I don't know. Still works for me.

I mean, I have my own worries about the state, future and philosophy of E:D, I am the last one to defend the shallow nothingness which is current PvE and I don't have to look
hard to recognise this as not only a matter of USSs but as a general, deeper rooted problem. I have no clue why - at this point - Frontier invests time and work in nerfing this,
buffing that when the most basic tools for player2player communication don't work.

But.

I am yet to experience any of the stuff this forum is plastered with. I once had to clear a Wanted status by logging out and back again and occasionally, the Landing Pad Lights
went off. Never did I meet a "griefer", a "hacker" or any combination of those. Never did my ship explode for no reason. Never did any of the game's mechanics cause me any
problems I didn't cause in the frist place. So, this place is alright.

To draw you a picture:
beautiful-beach-hd-wallpapers-94.jpg
I am vacation here. There's nothing to do. I go for a swim, I go for a walk, I take a nap, I go for a swim again. It's great.
(But, yeah, it's the third week of my vacation and I start to miss my computer, my music. Still, I like it there.)

You said you weren't going to read or reply. Looks like you fell for the trap!

Really? So you didn't read or understand my initial post?

I suggested that the guy I was replying to shouldn't bother replying because I wouldn't be able to read his reply.

He was already on my ignore list.

I'm with you OP. I tried to explain this during the beta, but of course I was told "it's only a beta".
I plan on reinstalling it when planetarty landings are a thing, but if Star Citizen delivers an experience I like before then, I probably won't bother.

You are still going to pay more money to walk around on a planet? After the disappointment you've felt on the lack of quality gameplay? Do you really think that will deliver what you need to make this game worthwhile?

I would pay more money to do so, After I get the "lowdown" on it. Not going to waste money on this game again until I am sure.

I suppose if there's a silver lining to the spate of under-cooked games lately, it's that we'll be more cautious next time and in the long run developers might have to get back to offering a more complete offering to ensure players invest. Then again, that might just be my inner optimist getting let loose again. Here's hoping anyway.

I'm with you guys on Star Citizen as well. After the way Elite was released, I'll be treating SC's release with a great deal of scepticism and won't jump in until I can see the game is built on what it has, rather than what it promises to have. What I would really like, though, is for FD to listen to the community, give us the verdict on what they can or can't fix, what they're going to do to address concerns, and get stuck into it making this the game we all want it to be.

Coming from the original and then most the X games, I understand what most the posters are saying. I picked up the game in Jan and I am not sorry. It does need some work, I want to be able to setup stations in far away places and a base for my operations. If they can make it a true coop then I will stop playing solo.

No I do not need other players to complete my game experience. I make this what I want. Again I see the design working on it so I am not concerned. I have backed Sc too and can not wait for it either but I will continue to play ED as both games are completely different.

Just have hope they will bring more things to the game so take the breaks needed and come back after more patches. Anyways just my thoughts..

Just an update, I still don't feel like logging in. Someone PM me when they add some content.

When you get the PM, Please Forward the PM to me as well. Barely anyone playing anymore on Twitch, just one guy with 'issues' (BUT I love watching him, because he seems to have the fun I cant seem to find myself)

If everyone takes a break for a few months while ED add content, the servers will be empty?
Maybe that will encourage them to get a move on..... Or turn the servers off!

I usually play kerbal space program, smite, battlefield 4 and settlers 7.

ED used to come above all these during beta and initial release.
Now it's bottom of the list I'm afraid.

I usually give it 40 mins every four days or so, it's pretty bad considering I paid £100 for premium beta.

If they jack it in and don't do any expansions I'll be asking for £60 back....

I don't feel like I've had £35 worth of content so far, let alone £100!

To everyone who is leaving the game to play something else... What are you going to play?

Because as far as space games goes, right now the options are quite limited.

Well I'm waiting for No man's sky, see if exploration is a bit more exciting in there.
Meanwhile I'm playing Grim Fandango remastered, another blast from the past. Pretty lazy port and the gameplay didn't age all that well either. However the writing is still top notch with very clever interactive dialogue, much better than the crap we get nowadays. Awesome music and a great commentary track as well.
And I got back to Spintires. Light on gameplay objectives but a real sandbox (or mudbox). Too bad that developer doesn't know what its doing either, my save games were wiped yet again for a minor update.
.
Anyway I'm not giving up on ED yet. Just waiting for 1.1, so I can sell my exploration data and then decide if I still feel like continuing. Maybe only to log in for the sounds, launch and dock again.

I wish they had put more thought into trading and exploration. Both are as basic as they come. It is only the galaxy simulator that keeps me interested, although I wonder why I don't simply go fly around in Space engine. I'm craving for some gameplay other than a self imposed speed limit in Google galaxy.

Any criticism of the game leads to the MOD's deleting posts, cheating is rampant and when there is an event of any size, they kill it (The SL run) even the haters now miss the one system where they could have fun.

This is what concerns me about FD's vision. They kill fun. The python gets demoted, and trading and events get hit, instead of building everything up around them.

I will throw more money at it for sure, because I do have faith they will make it into a great game sooner or later.
I also think I've had my monies worth if nothing else changes (I came in at late beta). The game has promise.

Like has been said before, balance and the such can come later, fix the stuff that needs fixing first, not break the stuff that works.
I think the Python kept me in the game and I'd still be playing it now, but messing that up has put a lot of people off.

Whatever the mood takes me but it is games I enjoy playing that at least give me a challenge and some fun - they don't need to be space sims.

I think people are starting to wake up to the fact the Early Access games are a complete waste of time.

Choice 1: play a game without features that's entirely buggy and a poor experience only to have features introduced which will also be buggy all the way up to release where the game is nothing new and the experience getting there has been poor.

Choice 2: Buy the game at release with few, if any bugs, feature complete and all shiny with the whole game to work out how to play before you and a much better experience, not ruined because you've been playing the game a year already.

Early Access games SUCK!

When you "have to give a game 40 minutes", surely it ceases to be a game, right? I mean if you have to force yourself to play it, isn't that just wasting your time?

Oh snap. I honestly had forgotten about it being a paid update.
No, I'm not going to buy it, unless I come here the next day and I see all of you ecstatic with the new content.

I'd wait at least week. Takes a while for reality to settle in as you can see from this forum here.
