Krait to rival Python?

I've never equiped an SLF in anything. I'm not interested in having an NPC sidekick. Not interested in having my main ship sitting there with turrets on fire at will as I zoom around in some little one shot wonder either.

I'm guessing some day I'll just equip one on a whim then wonder why the hell I never tried it before.

I equipped one once and then never again. I find it to be more of an annoyance.

I would like to see a ship with good combat base capabilities and lots of optional slots like a multi purpose ship. To make it balanced most of the modules should be restricted to civilian so it doesn't get OP.

If this is anything to go by, Krait will be smaller than Python, roughly T6/Keelback size:

As for the configuration, it's just guessing at the moment, however given that previous ships were combat oriented (Chieftain, T10) and one of the upcoming ones is a pew-pew as well (Challenger), I would hazard a guess that Krait is a multi-role. Possibly Cobra mk3 on steroids? It's just speculation though.

I think all we can say with confidence is it'll be a disappointment to many, as it can't be all the things on everybody's wish list.

In that case, I guess "many" have unrealistic expectations.

Let's face it, most people agree that the Python would be OP if if also had an SLF.
On the assumption that the Krait will have an SLF (and that FDev haven't been mainlining Onionhead) it seems unlikely that the Krait will be a direct competitor for the Python and have an SLF bay.

Personally, I just hope they don't make it a superficially decent ship and then "balance" it by giving it a lousy jump-range.
Sure, I guess it'd still be suitable for a role as a heavy fighter but I don't really need another one of those.
Something like a "super Keelback" (7 slots, decent jump-range and okayish combat abilities), however, could become a ship I'd spend a lot of time flying.

They're not just going to make a crappy Keelback copy with this ship and hope for the best. They read these forums and they know people want a good ship. I imagine it will be something that rivals the Python. Since the Python is the best mission runner in the game and can more than hold it's own in battle, I imagine the Krait will be pretty good too.

You saw the pic' (posted at the top of this page) of the Krait next to a Cobra Mk3 model, right?

That's an enlargement of a pic' taken at FDev's offices, on one of the dev's PCs.

The Cobra 3 is 27m long.
The Python is more than 3x as long (87m) as a Cobra 3.
The Krait is probably around 2x the length of a Cobra 3, at most.

*EDIT*

For comparison, the Keelback is 50m long.
Almost exactly the same length the Krait appears in that picture.

But the Krait is substantially wider then the keelback.

It makes an unengineered T7 feel like a joy to fly by comparison. And I say this as someone who spends at least 75% of my time in game flying a Python, because no matter how uninspiring it may be to fly, it's just so damned effective.
Fully agree. The Python is a great ship but I don't care for its looks.

Certainly hope that we get a much better ship than currently available.
Do not see why the ship manufacturers are not producing something better in all respects (within a class), rather than another 'side-grade' compromise vessel.
Disappointing that in 3300 progress seems to have stopped or be at a crawl, even in response to changed user needs - further travel, thargoids, SLF etc.

I guess that might depend on what you mean by "substantially" wider.

Looking at the pic' which compares the Krait to a Cobra, the Krait appears to be a similar width to the Cobra.

Using that pic' as a basis, I knocked together a quick comparison of the Cobra, Keelback, Python and the likely size of the Krait.

Assuming that pic' isn't a deliberate red-herring, it's pretty obvious that the Krait is nothing like close to the size/mass of the Python.
It's a similar overall size to the Keelback.
Based on the 3D renders we've seen, the Krait looks fairly "chunky" so it will, hopefully, have a bit more capacity than the Keelback.

*EDIT*

FWIW, my sketch has the Krait as being 53.6m long x 46.2m wide.
Let's see how close that is to the actual dimensions when it gets released. :p

I have excellent taste in ENG vs. movement slopes and am positively gluttonous when it comes to vertical/lateral acceleration.

^^^This right here. Have some rep fella. Those reasons are why i think the MKIV Viper is the most underated ship :).

Though I do hope that the Krait dosent have a fighter bay. They take away from the experience in my book, plus a manuverable, fast heavy fighter with a SLf is just excessive and will ensure a huge lack of balance ensues after the rngneers get thier hands on it. RIP PvP.

Thats not how I see it apart from having more cargo space and hopefully more internals then the keelback. I see it like this:

Which is right between the cobra and python. But hell, we could all be wrong and they have made it into a super large ship. I see the Krait as being nearly as wide as the Python from the pictures.

I did write and then delete a quite lengthy comment to this; it was not nice.
I want to be nice.

Therefore, I just say: please don’t write stuff like that.

Sincerely,
Deggial, your friendly PvE player.
