Lego Asp Scout (UCS minifig 1:96ish scale) update

Looking good!

Thank you, guess you called me out there! ;)
Nah, the projects always going forwards :D The stage I'm at right now is I have several stacked mini models that sit on each other- so I have the base, the cabin above, its outer hull cover plus the whole outer wing comes away but I have to make sure they all sit well together.

I take it you realise that the red sofa triples the value of the scout, yes? ;)

Good work btw - still looking forward to the finished model. When it is finished what will you do with it then, display it - or break down into another ship?

I don't....actually know :D I might break it apart and build it in a refined 'final form'- so far its been stop / start because I'd build, stop due to parts and refine freeing up parts.

Mini update:

Did a spot of rewiring the internals a bit, as well as adding some thrusters on the inside flip out part of the hull:

In the second picture you can see more cable / ducting detail on the Scouts wing, as well as providing support / adding more internal machinery.

That is awesome! I was actually thinking about this build the other day, given the price of lego bricks today, and the seemingly unfathomable relative inexpensiveness of ships in Elite's 34th century setting, your asp scout probably costs more money than the actual ship does.

Well, there is a 'flap' that folds outwards that has a thruster on one side, and I just could not eye twitches deal with having it simply 'stuck on' one side. I felt compelled to build the engine on the inside as well. I could have built this thing six times over if I had not listened to the voices whispering do the inside.... so maybe FD are the same ones....

As a change of pace from EDO, here are some more updates:

Been working hard to solve this corner, where lots and lots of unLego angles meet up (eye twitches)

Been also relaxing doing some embellishments. Not canon, but fun :D I want a cool Chris Foss vibe in this build.

Upper rear wing surface- rather than have it as one block I'd thought I'd make the atmospheric flight module (i.e. aerodynamic surfaces, flaps etc) just to make it look more interesting.

In general the upper surface is now more clean- I decided to make the whole upper surface a plate + tile combo rather than a technic panel, mainly because the latter is too thick and sticks up too much.

How much is this costing? Looks a lot and the last time I was on BrickLink the prices were pretty eye-watering.

Also, how big is the box?

(This is also so I get notifications about this, every now and then I stop getting pushed to the first unread post in a thread and I end up back at the beginning.)

I started out with a fair amount of 80s Lego but so far I'd say about £400 ish so far - by the end it will most likely cost a UCS Millennium Falcon since it will be about 8000 bricks (and be about the same size- its 92 cm wide, 30cm tall, 64cm long, but with a near full interior as well).

I can also sell the Lego as well if I wanted to, so I could get my money back as well.

Bricklink is very costly, recently I just bought large Lego sets for general parts I need :D

You should check out the book Alien: The Blueprints if you haven’t already?

I think LEGO are retiring the UCS Falcon this year, although it is insanely expensive, price per Brick is actually very good. But expect the prices to start inflating, if you were after a ton of bricks.

Ironically, I picked up the UCS Millenium Falcons little cousin, the 75257 set and had fun building it (then ripping it apart :D ). That set was great for parts, with a good mix of plates, greeble bits and general bits.

looking awesome so far! the corners were the hardest parts for me too. lotta trickery goes into making it work and I think you accomplished that very well.

Started work on the other side of the interior- its going to be a cargo hold that has a hatch in the upper wing surface (to mirror the cover over the cabin on the other side).

You can see a yellow crate sat as a test :D Although there are small crates like this on the other side (where the canteen is) this side will have larger cargo pods and proper racks that could be lifted out of the ship.

Close in on the central ladder detail.

A view into the upper 'landing' area, with a ladder down into the cockpit corridor (you can just see a yellow rail that overlooks the cargo bay too, as well as the 'roof' of the opposite corridor (the one with the orange dome greeble).

Opposite angle on the connecting landing- it will be underneath the apex of the Asp Scouts upper front glacis.

In the depths of the forum, there's a picture of the mini Type 6 that my son and I built from the smaller Millenium Falcon set. It was great for pieces. I think we even got a mini Sidewinder out of it as well. I was happy to have made three internal rooms, with enough room for the mini-SRV. Nothing like this, though.
