Lego Technic SRV (WIP)

Its really starting to look good :D
Update 14/9/19 - I have spent the day completely re-engineering the wheel assembly and steering mechanism. It now operates via cogs and not via the rack system I had originally planned. It also still fits within the dimensions of the first version with similar turning circles.

The axle sticking out of the last image is for the steering drive. Also excuse the mess, even digital lego kits create mess :D

Long overdue update: Due to taking on other projects, xmas and other things this has been on hold.

A HUGE issue is finding a way to connect the rear wheels to the arms. I don't feel the arm structure at the front would be strong enough to use on the rear, Ideally I'd love lego to make an arm that bends at 90 degrees and also twists at 45 degrees but they don't do that!

To show something I put the top back on the SRV and added the turret. Even if I can't make the whole thing motorised I'll put this turret on a track system so it slides along the spine of the SRV into position. Or put lights on it.... or something.

Update: 27/1/2020

I think I have solved the issue of attaching the rear wheels at a 45 degree angle. Doesn't look great but it does the job.

I have also re-designed the attachments for the boosters. It was a weird mess of cogs that would probably slip before, now it uses a worm gear and it fits quite well:

I had to take the roof off to re-enforce the inside of the undercarriage so I know that's missing from this next picture but it's shaping up!

Currently up to 1700 parts, including off-screen tests and random parts.

Spectacular ! A beautiful work here.

I love it, too! Great project, great solutions for transposing the design to lego.

If I'm allowed a little criticism (on a high level) though, I think the rear part looks too bulky an square compared to the original. I think the trunk starts a bit higher, almost at half height of the cabin, and tapers a bit towards the rear. But then again, maybe it's simply not doable with Lego Technics, I have no idea :)

Update: 04/02/2020

I have been looking at giving the SRV a colour scheme as it is getting close to completion, however I am limited by the availability of certain parts. For example there is a 5x5 studded right angle beam with holes in that is vital to certain parts of construction, however it was only ever made in black, red and yellow, and only currently available from Lego in black. I will have to use BrickLink to get certain other parts such as the wheels and tyres too, and those colours are limited by availability too. I'm limited to light grey, blueish light grey or black for the rims.

I also found Bluerender, which gives stunningly beautiful renders of your LDD files.

Stunning work, the render looks fantastic.

Are there any domes that you could slide into the wheel trims? Or maybe a dish piece?
