Lets Talk Engineers, what ship do you want to modify?

Type 9 should have at least 2 more Utility Slots. It makes no sense that such a huge ship only has 4. I want to have more shield boosters.

I hope to be able to make my Python as fast as the Clipper and with a jump range like the Asp Explorer.
I also would like a Asp Explorer jump range on my Clipper. :)
To turn the "Cobra" Mk IV into a real Cobra, would be nice.

But we'll see.

You guys don't need silly and complicated engineers. A ship generator with rulers for jump range, cargo space, speed, shield/hull strenght etc. would be good enough. Move all the rulers to max. and that's it then.

Just so long as we don't get anything totally unbalanced. EG a ship that can one-shot any other ship in the game. OR anything totally ridiculous, IE a cobra with a C4 weapon on it (it would look and feel like something from "Wacky Racers"). We should be looking at tweaks and optimisations, not wholesale "win buttons".

To be honest, I want any mods the engineers do to have some downside. Like, for sure, they can make that C2 laser shoot like a class 3. But it will use a lot of power, and you can't get it some without some interesting and challenging side quests to collect parts. Yeah, we can make that Vulture jump 20ly. If you won't mind arriving with 200% heat and your FSD offline for 45 seconds whilst it's reboots. Oh, and every 3rd jump it takes around 10 percent damage and reboots the ship. Actually we can make it jump 30ly.... IF you don't mind it ......exploding.... a bit after 2-3 jumps? Still, you're you're that desperate to get to that quest....

I just want an extra 30-odd M/S on my Cobra Mk IV. That is it! That is all I want! That only makes it as fast as a Diamondback Explorer! Which is hardly fast!

I don't want more firepower. I don't want more armour. I don't want more jump range.

Just a tiny & hardly OP speed-boost!

That is it! Nothing more.

DBX speeds in a Cobra Mk IV is my dream!

I dream small, I know!

Eh. I've seen that sort of mod done in other games and it tends to kind of suck and not be used except for a few where they accidentally made the downside irrelevant and then everyone uses those. It would be a waste for them to design the Engineer system that way.

That's talking about performance downsides. If you're talking about things like increased maintenance costs or something then that could work. Even increased power *could* work but you have to be careful... some sizes of Prismatic Shields are already a bit too power-hungry to be worth using, and some ships are *really* tight on power while others have plenty to spare, which kind of makes it a bad way to balance a new system.

But for example, if you had an FSD that could jump 50% further but had an extra 45 second recharge? That would have *very* limited use. Anyone who expects to ever get interdicted would skip it. It wouldn't be any good for getting around the bubble quickly since it doubles the time it takes to make a jump. The only real use would be for exploring the extreme edges of the galaxy, but for exploration other than that it would still be a pain in the butt and slow things down. So you basically wasted your time coding the option because it has no use.

And if everything was like that, you wasted your whole feature.

I'd fit a ridiculous bodykit, rear spoiler, furry dice, neons and a banging sound system.

Or maybe just buy an imperial ship and save the hassle.

It will be nice to have sniper ships, like 15 km sensor range, and 10 km weapon range with huge damage, for balance reason make that weapon firing rate 1 shot/30 sec or less. And support ship that able to remote boost shield/repair hull. It actually make fleet battle more interesting.

Not ship specific, but I hope I will be able to split larger internal modules into smaller ones. Split a class 2 into 2x class 1s or a class 4 into 2x class 1s and a 2 or whatever combination depending on my setup. Would give some proper flexibility into the setups you want. Even (if ship designs allow) to combine into a bigger slot.

I have a feeling though that customisation will be some smaller stats weighting changes more like the powerplay weapons, and other cosmetic things like laser colours, so probably be pretty limited in initial release. ... hope to be proven wrong tho!

My hunch is that the Engineers will be able to make things more along the lines of the Powerplay faction special equipment - things with a useful unique twist and/or a minor-medium buff with a cost, but not intended to alter the fundamentals. It will be interesting to see what they come up with and how much blood, tears, and credits we will need to commission work from the engineers. :)

snap! :)

I would love to be able to modify my Corvette and get some real use out of those small hardpoints. Maybe I can get them upgraded to medium or have them converted to something useful.
I wouldnt mind modding the thrusters for higher top speed either.

This would also be incredibly OP because of stacking HRPs. So, probably no.

Its the best way to allow more customisation on some of the ships, I agree it'd be super OP if you could change your slots into 250 C1 compartments and fill them with HRP but I suspect we'll be extremely limited in what we can modify anyway.
