LIFETIME Expansion pass, and Python Mk2

The question for me is did i get value for money when buying the LEP?

For $200 i got the base game, Horizons, and Odyssey.

To date, it has not been value for money. Even if we considered the base game and the two expansions to be valued at 60 dollars each, it still falls short. If FD added another paid expansion or two, then i'd consider it worth it.

Do i feel i should get access to the new ships as soon as they are available in game? Well, it would be a nice gesture from FD to remember the LEP holders in this context.

But it is what it is, and i won't reward FD for this by giving them more money. I'll wait for them to become available without ARX.

were you buying the pass as an investment thats meant to bring back its monetary value
or were you buying a game (that youve played for a good while) and supporting its devs

randoms getting the new content for free
where can i sign up for this free content?

I expected to get value for money. I could have bought the base game and expansions for less than I paid for the LEP.

If i had wanted to support the devs i would have bought in at kickstarter, but to be honest, I thought it was going to flop, and it would have if it wasn't for FD adding most of the money themselves. I bought in at beta because i saw that the game was going to release before long and FD had actually managed to get something decent created and I was confident it would be good.

While I agree with you, let's be fair, we also got free paintjobs such as the midnight black, and the ability to buy ships such as the Cobra mkIV. And for £200 you will have had access to the Alpha build of the base game, while others had to wait until the actual release. The LEP was available to those who pledged at £90, so that's really the amount you should use in your calculations (in my opinion, obviously).

But yes, if you only consider the base game and expansions, it can seem to be a net loss so far.

The CM4 you could get by preordering Horizons. The paintjobs were ok, but hardly worth buying the LEP for.

I didn't get alpha, i came in at late beta. Basically a month or two of that, a wipe, then gamma. That was the main bonus i suppose, the month of gamma where i got to explore (painful as it was back then), which later counted for first discovery when they added that.

It's not all about Alpha/Beta LEPs so please don't forget about those that bought the LEP at the time around Horizons was released...
With the worst case scenario buying the LEP after preordering/buying Horizons... Like I did... 🙈🙈🙈

🤷‍♂️

Well, I missed the KS so LEP cost £120 - having already paid £40 for Elite. So £120 for Horizons and Odyssey - not exactly value for money really, needs another £40 update to "break even" in that respect.

Still, I have paid out much MUCH more for flight sim addons - not complaining about value, but do feel that it has not exactly fulfilled the promise of "lifetime" expansions.

P.S. Yes the delayed availability of these new ships is a bit of a slap in the face.

Just pointing out that neither the game nor (hopefully) the posters here have reached the end of their life so there is still time.

$200 for all that + 10 years of free updates, improvements and reworks of game mechanics is a lot of value for money. I think ED development will continue for another decade with big DLC and maybe expansions (Earth-like worlds, ship interiors, base building) which LEP holders should receive for free.

That's a good deal imo.

Just wishful thinking...

My 10 cent ymmv though

Without those things ED from beta till now is worth $200 imo. Also, factor in the lack of a monthly subscription fee, and total hours played. MMOs with a $15 per month sub cost $1,800 per 10 years.

There's two ways of looking at it there, mate.

Same boat. In terms of actual money for what they eventually charged for things, then yeah you're right - think if you just bought the games as they came (even at full release) be about half what the alpha LEP cost.

The other way of looking at it, is that I'm about 3,200 hours in, and I paid $150 for the Premium Beta kickstarter. That works out to the equivalent of 4c per hour. Decent PC game is $50 ($70 for the AAA these days, I can't in good conscience call Elite AAA). According to my Steam library, the longest I've played a game on there is 36 hours, Horizon Zero Dawn. So about $1.40 an hour? So in that regard I think I've got value for money? (And a gloriously shiny Cobra MkIV with a salty paint job.)

THAT SAID.

Do agree wouldn't have hurt FDev's bottom line by giving the LEP owners early access. And not saying that just because I have an LEP, even if I didn't I'd lobby for it. Without Kickstarters and LEP investors, the game wouldn't have happened. There's not that many of us left regularly active in the game, so even if half of us would have bought the arx, they'd have only lost out on a couple of hundred quid.

At least it was covered by UK law and considers Odyssey as part of the original package. In the US a lifetime pass is only for that exact product.

I have been caught out by that trick before, no you don't get this dlc or the digital product as it's a ...New...product.

Cue the disgust.

The alpha was lots of fun.

But it’s a much better deal for those that paid much less and got pretty much the same thing.
