However, nor does she know about the beast of a Skylake rig I'm going to build.

I guess I'm just really lucky. My wife gave me money towards the kickstarter (which included the lifetime pass)

So, she's really awesome and understands :)

We've just bought a house that needs loads of work doing to it, so my lifetime pass may have been slipped in between invoices for paints, wallpaper and general building supplies.

Elite do lighting no?

The reasoning for me was clear. I spend lots of time in this game, i'll be spending more on the individual expansions as time goes one, and i can get a discount right now in it "last" time offered. It was a no-brainer for me.

I may sound harsh but maybe she is not a nice person if she is being like that...anyone who hates on geeks or nerds is not a good person

My fiancee knows , I told her and she was fine with it (mind you , we do have lightsaber fights from time)

Life Time expansion Pass for my birthday, X55 Hotas for christmas my wife Rocks! Actually she just said its a lot cheaper than my other hobby Scale RC Aircraft flying lol.

My first wife was a nerd. The current one is not. Nerdiness totally rocks in so many ways but it isn't everything.
I want the people closest to me to be happy but I cannot always make them happy. I try. I am happy if they are happy, it isn't a biggy if what makes them happy is not my thing, I may or may not join in, but who am I to judge?
If my happiness makes somebody else unhappy I have to question am I doing something wrong, or are they? I am totally happy to include those close to me in my gaming, if they do not want to join in it might make me a bit sad but that is ok, but if they want me to stop doing what makes me happy, that would just be weird.

You could ask her if she'd rather be married to a shy nerd or a total git. At least you think you ought to have an excuse.

Of course... You could remind her of all the Facebook posts she makes on baking that are really, really important. But you want peace not war.

In the end though you have to figure that she doesn't want an excuse from you, she wants a present of equivalent value.

She probably would spend a lot more (and probably has) on just a single purse or some cute pair of shoes, without so much as batting an single eye.

It's all perspective, and whatever it is what makes you smile.

I should say she's no dragon but is old school and finds it amusing that a grown man plays games and has a "Thrust Master Joystick"! She loves that.

your wife is not nice. this opens the blunt route: tell her. you'll have an argument. then you'll fight. then you'll have the best sex in weeks (ymmv) and you will strengthen your bond (as carbon entities go). after that you can surf the galaxy for a good stretch and nobody will remember a thing about something called expansion pass.

other than that, blame the thargoids!
