Game Discussions Light No Fire (Hello Games)

So, why is it called "light no fire"? Fire is good. Fire is progress. Fire is bright. I feel most games are way too dark nowadays. What's the point of playing in total darkness. Black shadows over dark blue shadows, wow. Or does it attract enemies? Usually it's the other ways round. Or is it just 3 random words to give the baby a name?
It also has red emblematic logo-like focus, like the red tetrahedron (or wossname) from NMS. Brand strategy?
Maybe it's just three words that together are a catchy hook?

Like No Man's Sky? Yeah, but NMS kinda made sense from the start. I usually expect the name / title to mean something in relation to the titled object. I mean I have endured localised English movie names - but this is a native name.

Well, having got excited by an uptick in LNF 'release date' click baiting, it seems that 2026 is the earliest that this is expected.

Oh well. As you were.

Perhaps Hello Games don't want to repeat the controversial launch of NMS, but maybe they still will :)
At this point, I imagine that they're using NMS as the test platform to introduce all the new techs and features that will be part of LNF, in order to minimise that risk, but then the next issue could be that it's just NMS with bunnies and swords, unless they introduce something innovative.

Sounds reasonable, and I remember HG saying that (at least) the new water effects in NMS was a result of their work on LNF. At least that's what my fallible memory reports.

These days I'm finding the size of the sandbox that is NMS to be a bit overwhelming, so I'd quite welcome a bit of a reset with LNF.

If the world in LNF is really as big as Earth, it will be truly massive.
If they are including oceans, then the total surface could be reduced, to some extent (also depending on whether there is going to be underwater content), however it's still extremely large.
There will be quick travel options, I suppose, but in a way it would feel bigger than NMS to me for two reasons:

-NMS is shapeless. The galaxies are just concepts, you are told where the centre is, and how far it is, but without a working map, it's all the same, which makes any place feel like anywhere else.

-planets are really tiny. Any full system, including its interplanetary distances, could still fit inside a real sized planet.

If different biomes are going to be included, it's really going to be massive, and exploration might hopefully be something worth it on its own.

I'm with you in finding NMS shapeless, and I very quickly lose track of where I 'am' and where I've been (and why). It's likely because there is, as you say, no overall coherent structure to 'see'.

Hopefully with a single planet and multiple biomes this will be less the case, even if the planet-size world is going to make a different/similar challenge.

Whilst I also quite liked the rather nebulous 'story' of NMS, I am hoping for a slightly clearer and distinct story-line this time... and... flyable unicorns!
